      George Pettitt thank you very much 😊 I was worried about messing the timing up more than the complexity of the task haha

      Red Falcon yeah it's just turned over 100k and it's had an easy life, not too sure on service history but it certainly looks in good health

    My car stalled this morning driving home. Guess I'll be doing the job sooner rather than later. Was hoping to do it during my holidays from work :=(

    What were the symptoms of the timing chain fail? I have an engine management light on on my 2004 Almera dash which when I read it stated "camshaft sensor 1" but when I start the car in the mornings the rev counter bounces a bit for a few seconds before settling down and the car drives well. Could this be early signs of timing chain stretch? 😢

    Hello, do you happen to know if the Nissan Almera xgl 1.8 TM 2003 uses the same timing chain? or does it use timing belt?

    • @bakergtr
      @bakergtr  5 лет назад

      Hi yeah I believe it will use a timing chain

  • @Rogier7305

    Can you maybe explain exactly where to look for that 10mm stretch? My Almera is giving out a P0300 code and it might be that the chain is stretched, but not sure how i can check that.

    • @bakergtr
      @bakergtr  7 лет назад

      +Rogier7305 check the tensioner, if the piston protrudes more than 10mm it's likely the chain has stretched, take the cam cover off and shine a torch down the left side where the chain goes down, you will see the tensioner pushing against the guide.

    What was the reason for this repair? Was the chain from faulty batch?
    A friend has 1999 Almera now at 360tkm. Fortunately there has not been need to mess around with the engine yet other than changing fluids and filters of course.

    Hello. This is a pretty good explanation. I have a 2001 Nissan Almera. During the routine check, a P1111 code was detected(Intake timing valve solenoid bank 1). I've been looking for where it is located but can't see it. Please, where is it located?

      Hi I’m not too sure, it’s been a long time since I had this car now so can’t check unfortunately

    Hi. Great video. How long did the job take from start to end. Looking at it myself. Thks

    • @bakergtr
      @bakergtr  4 года назад

      I did this over the course of a few days I think, though it can be done much quicker, you could do it in less than a day I reckon it’s not too complex

    I'm in the process of doing the chain replacement on a 1999 Almera (Pulsar).
    How did you loosen the Ckankshaft pulley bolt? I'm stuck on that at the moment.

    • @bakergtr
      @bakergtr  8 лет назад +1

      No Problem :) To loosen the bolt, I put the car in 5th gear and held the brake pedal down with a stick, once you get it loose it comes right out, same process for tightening too, but be wary of torque specs, which are in the description of part two :)

    maybe it is possible without removing sump?

    • @bakergtr
      @bakergtr  8 лет назад

      no unfortunately you need to get the oil pickup off to be able to get the chain cover off as the oil pump is contained in the chain cover.

      Hi, I think its on the gearbox side of the block, I've not had to fiddle with it, but I think I remember reading its around that area :)

    Thank for posting this Vid! but year camera work is pretty bad. I'll be sad when I have to let my Almera Go, the new MOT in France is going to take a lot of 10+ YO cars off the road :(

      @bakergtr  6 лет назад

      Yeah the MOT rules here are getting ever stricter, sorry for the poor camera work, at the time I couldn’t find a video on it so decided to quickly document it for others :)
