Eric, I love watching your videos. They are extremely helpful. I am a mom of three small kiddos and have recently started dabbling in wood crafts. I love it! I have been to two markets with a friend and had a ball... and even made some money. Thanks to you, I can broaden my inventory for this weekend's market. Keep it up! I LOVE the videos. Thank you!
That's terrific!! So glad you found us and like what we do. I love when I hear mom's are getting into the crafting, especially carved signs. Go Get 'um... Please let me know how it goes and if you have any questions I can answer for you, always happy to help...eric@makeawoodsign.com.
great video! Straight forward with no mumbo jumbo!....PS I would like to see another Dave demo, its fun to learn from old timers like him. Thanks. ERIC/VICKI/DAVE!
Thanks for the great tips, Eric. About your last video...I got excited about marketing possibilities, so when I went to the Doctors office yesterday, I was showing the Doctor and Nurse pictures of my signs...the receptionist heard me and said, "Do you sell your signs?" ... "Why, yes, ... yes I do", I said...she ordered a sign. Sometimes they just need to know that you do signs, and they already want one...Thanks a million...(I promise to try not to over-spray again...honest.)
Great Story, that's a perfect example of just letting people know what you do and you never know where it will lead. They sell themselves, that's for sure. Thank you so much for sharing and for watching. Keep it up and please keep sharing with me, I love it. Have a great day, Eric
Thanks again Eric. I've been carving less than a year now & still over spray A LOT. Bad habit that I need to break. Always trying to cover every little speck of wood.
Congrats on the 20k viewers. Its well worth watching all your video's. I've learned so much, and still learning from them and doing my own experimentation's on my own. Thanks again and keep the good work.
I'm glad it worked out and it showed up for you. In hindsight I should have used pine, it would have showed up much better. Glad it helped, Thank you for watching, Eric
Hey Eric, you just solved one of my long-term issues. I have always been plagued by bleeding on both cedar and pine. I tried several different sanding ideas and was always left with slight bleeding because I couldn't go deep enough without damaging the outsets. I confess, I am a heavy sprayer and after seeing this little demo it was an aha moment for me. Like duh! Anyway thanks so much. My signs should look better and I should be less frustrated.
Great video, Eric. I'm often guilty of over spraying because I want the background to be a really solid color and think "one more spritz" will be okay. The over spray becomes apparent when more than normal sanding is required to remove the excess. Experimenting to develop the right touch is an excellent idea.
LOL, you're right but I thought it was only a few seconds and it would have been strange, but I should have put some sound in there. Hope you are well Sue, Thank you and I hope we will talk soon, Eric
Hey Eric and Vicki, Thanks for the experiment! Like we talked about at WBC, if the carving isn't really deep a person can sand through it trying to remove primer leaching!! Especially on Pine! Thanks again, Later, Murph
@@oldave100 ok ..well I went and got sanding sealer last night, put a coat on few hours ago to see lol, like I've said, I've only used white oak and it bleeds in areas, can't wait to try another type of wood lol, but that's what I got for now as I have so many cut offs..thank you man, this short journey I been on carving has been cool and your vids have sent me on the right path...
Thanks Eric! I've been making some growth charts using the marsh ink with no sealer on the clear pine prior to carving. Bleeding is certainly a problem without using a sealer first. The reason I didn't use a sealer first is because I was planning on using a stain after carving and the manufacturer does not recommend using sanding sealer on woods that are to be stained because it will not penetrate as well. Pine is hard to stain anyhow! My question is have you ever brushed on a sealer after carving and does it distort the carving or cause the Marsh ink to run? I'm afraid it may coagulate as sanding sealer usually foams during application.
In my process, the sanding sealer is all gone by the time I put the stain on. Again my way is not the same as everyone else but it works for me. I put the sanding sealer on the board before I start the sign layout, so it's just on the surface, not in the carving. After you spray the carving and then sand it, the sanding sear is completely gone. I never brush the sanding sealer over the black, I'm sure it will run and streak on you. If you do a search on my channel I've done lots of videos on this.
Dang! So much info here! I'm going to have to start bringing a pencil and paper to take notes on it all! Great stuff Eric! Oh yeah...FIRST!!!! Have a great weekend? It's Wednesday my friend LOL
LOL, yea I get confused easily as to what day it is. I am blessed that I love so much what I do, that everyday seems like a weekend. Thank you my friend for watching and Have a Great Thursday, Eric
It's funny that you have done this type of experiment considering I waited until I got home to watch this video and I'm having my own paint nightmares everything from bleeding to trying to do experiments that did not work
I recall in a previous video, you sprayed on a coat of sanding sealer before the primer. Does this help to eliminate the problems of over spraying. Great information as always.
Looks like I am the first to comment?? Eric, have you ever worked with acrylic paint? I have been using it on a couple of projects . There is no bleeding like the spray, but I have to apply it on with a brush. Also I want to see that sprayer handle work on a video. The one that attaches to the spray can. I have RA and have trouble pressing that button down on the spray can. So before I buy one I would like to see yours in action. Thanks, Pete
H Pete, I will be showing that on an upcoming video for sure. It works really good with all kinds of nozzles. Yes I have heard that about brush on acrylics, just don't know if I want to do that. I like spray whenever I can. I hope the handle works for you. Thank you again my friend and I'll talk to you soon, Eric

Thank you Oliver, great to hear from you. Hope you are doing well. Take care my friend & Have a Fantastic Day!!, Eric
I have been guilty of over spraying even though you said time and time again, to not do it. Now I am convinced and going to hold back as you suggest.
Happy to help, Thank You!!!
Started using 40 grit and really works great, doesn't clog at all. Just need to be careful or you may start losing some of the fine detail.
Yea it works great but you need to keep a LIGHT touch or you'll take off too much.
Great video, Thank you. But, you spoiled us! Where was the music when you were sanding? That’s so fun to hear. ☺️👍💕 Have a great day.
LOL, you're right but I thought it was only a few seconds and it would have been strange, but I should have put some sound in there. Hope you are well Sue, Thank you and I hope we will talk soon, Eric
Thanks I was wondering why my one had bled and the rest had looked good now I know why I was trying to get it better my mistake thanks again
Glad this helped Crystal. Thank you for watching and remember you can always email me questions, I'm happy to help, eric@makeawoodsign.com.

Thank you Eric, so glad you enjoy what we do and it is helping. We'll stay at it....
another great video .always something to learn .i do tend to over spray, but i won't be as generous with my spray .
Glad you liked it Emil. If you try the experiment it will make even more sense. Have a great day my friend, Eric
Great info... looks I tend to lean as an over sprayer, lol learned something new today :-)
Thank you John, glad I was able to help. Thank you for watching, & Have a Great Day, Eric

I agree 100%. Great to meet you my friend. Hope we get to meet up again next year. Thank you for all your support, Eric
Appreciate the experiment. Does confirm what happened to me as I over sprayed a stencil and got tremendous bleed on pine.
Yea pine can be tricky that way for sure.....
Hey guys, sanding sealer stops bleed to right?...just wondering i know you said it somewhere but forgot...that's if you see this ..
Sanding sealer works, but it takes a while to dry. To prevent bleeding we use a couple light coats of clear.

Yes it does help some, but if you over spray it doesn't always stop it. Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it. Have a Great Day, Eric
