I forgot to tell you. Your voice is perfect for video or radio. You have a “ golden voice” and could probably make a lot of money in radio or television, but please stay in watch videos 👍🏼
I dont think anyone has said that about my voice before!
Americans really like British accent
I agree that we would like more of this format! Highlights of the repair help novices know what to look for, and vintage watches are just so classy. Thank you for your efforts to save the old watches!
You got it!
I have very similar watch from 1962 that I have inherited from my grandfather. Love it and wear it somewhat often. They are so simple but also elegant at the same time.
The classic vintage design always stands the test of time. Elegant and simple to read.
We've clearly got very similar taste, I love this one. A Longines dress watch is on the "eventually" list.
Good choice!
Hello Mike, excellent format, even reviewing vintage watches. Beautiful watch. I recently added a 1960s Longines Ultrachron to my collection. running at 36000 bph, this was marketed as being the most accurate watch in the world in its day. I love it!!
Excessive oil and grease residue is certainly not uncommon and I've come across horrors like yours too.
As for the erratic watch running, I notice that the balance has a slight wobble to it. This can lead to different running rates in different watch positions that stress the rotation or lead to the hairspring touching the balance cock . Other factors could be the amount of oil in the top and bottom of the balance jewels/end cap jewels. Differing oiling can cause different amplitudes. Have you also tried demagnetising the watch? How about the oiling of the pallet fork, plus no oil on the pallet fork pivots. So many factors to consider?
Keep up the good work and stay healthy!!
Thanks that high beat is lovely.
As for the running of this one remember that it’s also passed through my professional watchmakers hands to repair the spring and balance staff.
This is as good as he could get it .
One day I might re- look at what the problem can be but with only 4-5 days a year of wear it’s not on my list of priorities.
Nice job putting that together even if it's still not quite right. It came out beautifully.
Thank you very much!
I like Longines. Particularly from that period. I've learned a lot from your other channel and I like this 'story of a watch' style.
Thank you Terry
That watch is beautiful...I love that style of dress watch, I just with I could get that vintage watch in a 38mm...they are just a little small for me. Nicely done.
Love that Longines. :) My dad was a Longines man so I inherited that from him.
nice. Do you have your fathers watch/s?
@@mywatchreviews I have a few of them. That's where I caught the collecting bug as a kid. 🙂 Sadly I don't have his fave a 50's Longines dress watch as my mum suffered with dementia and basically threw it along with other family "heirlooms" in the bin. 😔
Keep them coming. Love your videos.
I really like this style of video, keep up the good work. That watch is a beauty now. I'm going to watch the timegrapher part again and probably leave another comment.
I should leave the watch in the stressed positions for at least 5 minutes really but I am impatient when filming!
Great result 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
I like this photograph format.
Thank you.
Beautiful watch. I have 4 Longines now. 2 new two old. I got 2 new. The first was supposed to be a mechanical and they sent a quartz. They didn’t want to fix the mistake so I got another mechanical. Aqua conquest. I really like both I actually like the quartz a little better because it bigger. I’m going to try to take one of the old ones apart so we shall see. Hey I finally got them working - gentle with the pinions and pivots as you told me. Thanks mate .
Pleased you have been successful Paul. I do warn you that hobbyist watchmaking is a big rabbit hole to fall down. I will see you at the bottom yes?
Love the watch story’s , I think we all love a bit of history about these wonderful mechanical things , and your right About the satisfaction I get from bringing a watch back to life is such a great feeling and pride , it’s just awesome. During lockdown I was using your great videos as a step by step guide to help me develop my skills , can’t thank you enough my friend, and for seeing this lovely little Longines.👏👏👊🏻👊🏻
Glad you enjoyed it and pleased you have found my other videos useful with your projects.
I would like to hear more stories like this about the watches you have. Found this interesting. Thanks
More to come!
Dreaming about Longines Flagship Ref. 103 1958
What a beautiful watch, well worth the effort. Longines is a classy brand, you must feel good wearing this knowing you brought it back to life! I enjoyed seeing the photos - the format worked really well. You had your PSA yesterday, I don't know when you get the results but I have my fingers crossed for you.
Thank you Zay, my PSA test came back in Tuesday, undetectable!!! so happy and relieved. Another 3 months of freedom until the next one.
@@mywatchreviews That is great news, I'm so pleased for you! Now you can celebrate Christmas and the New Year with your family without the worry. Three months will pass at its own speed so in the meantime - enjoy yourself!
Lovely watch 👍 thanks good video
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
Good video Michael and a beautiful watch.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great content Mike. Would be good to see more like this when you get time. As to suggestions. Haha, as you know i'm very green to say the least. How about a cracked jewel or an end shake issue. Cheers 👍
Thanks . I think it’s either the escape wheel or it’s still an issue with the balance. Thing is it still passed through the hands of my professional friend so perhaps this is as good as it can ever be.
34mm but looks bigger on the wrist - beautiful watch and v. similar to my 1961 Omega Seamaster.
Well yes. Look at my Omega review and you will see that Watch is a similar size yet it looks much bigger at least on my wrist!
Es un reloj hermoso y bién vale la hacer los arreglos para que pueda funcionar como en sus mejores tiempos.
Salú2 desde Puebla México.
Thank you.
Very nice watch… it’s extremely similar to my Enicar Ultrasonic Manuel… not as nice as this one though
Enjoyed the video and format too…. as always! Thanks for posting!!
I don't know enough to offer any worthwhile comment, except that I'm looking in!
Just enjoy. 👍🏼
I’ve got this watch
Lovely story Michael.
You probably know this by now but using an oiler in the escape wheel and unscrew the pallet cock and remove the fork, you can let the watch safely unwind and same time a test on the train how its running. I do this all the time.
Well yes. Remember this was in 2017 . That said removing the pallet when it’s completely fully wound will still be uncontrollable as the train will spin at max which equally is not great.
I like it. 😎
That's a beautiful watch. I remember the hairspring issue from the group. How is Simon these days, well i hope. I miss those guys. You, Simon ,Che, Andy etc. My thinking is the pivots are worn or a possible worn/ cracked jewel? Anyway I really like the watch. I'm looking for a gold dress watch in the 38mm range(almost impossible to find in my price range). Cheers Michael.
Come back to the group Jeff ! Even just setup another profile it’s easy to do and then you won’t miss out
Really enjoyed this type of video, makes me want to have a go myself but will admit it looks daunting.
It does to all newcomers but with some determination and patience anyone can do this.
I have a longines 285 it’s the calendar version of that watch my god if fought and fought I swear it did not not want to live
The watch looks great. I'd be happy to wear that one! If I may ask, you mentioned you sheared off a screw. How did you get it out? I've done something similar to an old Bulova I have.
I replaced the barrel arbour and screw. I said in the video somewhere that the arbour was £20 and the screw was another 4. Expensive screw that one!
I'm going to guess worn pivot or jewel on the escape wheel.
Hi Mike,
Have you ever worked on a caravelle N2 (11owc ) ???
It would be interesting to find out how to separate the movement from the case ???
Be nice to get a reply from you m8 !!!
Sorry not done that one. Best to ask a community. My Facebook group would know the answer for sure.
@@mywatchreviews l will do Mike, thanks for your quick reply m8 👍
play maybe? one of the wheels...
the positive side to all that oil, it wont rust...
haha indeed. Movement has been embalmed.
whats the value of the watch?
No idea. I’m not selling it so value is not important
I don't like "watch review" videos but you fooled me with this one. Instead of a new watch you reviewed an older watch that you had previously repaired. Very cleaver. Second, it only that you are a watch repairer (now) that you are less than happy with how the watch is performing. The rest of us would be thrilled to have that Longines on our wrist and be perfectly happy with the time it keeps. After all, what's a minute or two in the course of a lifetime?. ✌
Thank you. As a hobbyist and my own stubbornness I know I should really sort the issue out and probably will eventually.
