My dad retired from the fire department after over 30 years of service. Most, I mean 80% or more of the fires ever started were due to dryers. Neglected, running while owners are asleep or away from home. DO NOT mess with dryer (or fire) safety.
I've also heard that bathroom fans are responsible for a LOT of house fires. I am very careful to keep ours turned off and make it a part of the "leaving the house" checklist.
@@BabalonNuitmakes sense because people will leave them running long after a shower or taking a dump and the dust will build up on the motor and cause it to overheat. Cleaning them helps mitigate this problem.
nah it's just the niggas that don't have common sense to clean their damn lint tray I went to my friends house once for a sleepover and when I was doing our laundry the next day after one cycle it wasn't dry and she told me to just do it again and I asked her how often her mom cleans the lint tray I kid you not she said "the what tray" I took her too the washroom and pulled open the lint tray (it was stuck from all the damn lint) and told her your supposed to clean this every 4 or 5 uses
I got a dryer and i live in germany, the construction is much more isolated with proper dust screens. The heating coil does not even come in contact with the lint
Lint accumulation inside the dryer is due to a backed up dryer vent. When the vent is clogged, the lint has nowhere to go so it goes through the little crevices of the dryer itself.
This wasn't a thing even until the last decade. Everything has to be serviced, replaced or both because everything is made cheaply and to break. Planned obsolescence. Should be illegal
Whenever I see these videos, I just feel glad that the person noticed there was something not right with their machine before a fire happened. Like taking multiple cycles to dry or a smell. Glad they noticed and decided to do something about it.
Y'all should buy German dryers. They do not have these pipes where all the dust can collect, but instead leads the dust and water to seperate compartments that you have to take out after every drying circle and it's easy to clean....
@@Appaddict01I think you're supposed to empty the lint trap every load, not every other. I don't personally but I think that's the official "right" amount. And of course get a vacuum attachment in the cavity occasionally for little bit that isn't caught in the lint trap.
Most American dryers duct the water directly outdoors (we use "vented" dryers, while your water catcher is because you have "ventless" style dryer) so that wouldn't be useful. We also have a lint trap drawer like you describe, but many people skip emptying the lint trap so it can build up and become a safety issue like this. People who have past experience in using Laundromats or hang drying clothes are more likely to not know they need to empty the lint trap in their dryer and let this flammable build up happen.
Here in Australia our dryers usually come with a lint catcher on the inside of the door that you pull off the lint after every use. These seem like such a fire hazard.
Yes, I know with our dryers, you may leave the lint in the door lint filter for a couple of uses with no problem. These american machines are huge with 4 inch lint outlet pipes. There has to be years worth of lint build up in some of these machines. I would have thought that it would be part of regular maintenance to have them cleaned out. I guess it's a case of out of sight, out of mind.
Canadian here, and I think the issue is not that theres no lint trap to empty, its that lint can get past the trap occasionally, building up over years in the exhaust pipe, and I guess in the back. Not sure though. But I know lint gets past my trap that its emptyable, I vacuum underneath the detachable part a couple times a year and get lots of pet hair and lint that the trap didnt catch. Especially in rentals, you never know what was left behind, or when it was last cleaned out thoroughly unless you do it yourself. I could be wrong as I'm no appliance tech, but I'm pretty sure all dryers are at risk for this, world wide, and maybe people just dont know. 🤷♀️
American here 👋 our dryers have lint traps, but the lint can definitely get past it. it’s especially frustrating when you live in an apartment because it’s not like we can do our own work on them, we have to call maintenance. It’s wild to me that dryers are designed in a way that this is such an issue. Seems like there would be designs that could prevent lint building up in places besides the lint trap. Because it looks like more is in the machine than the average lint trap collects. But I guess it’s also build up over time and the lint trap does collect more of it more quickly than what builds up elsewhere in the same amount of time.
I was actually hired by a property management to clean the dryer vent. They don’t pay to have the inside of the dryer cleaned though so I did it free of charge because I didn’t feel right leaving it that way.
