EWJ has to be one of the coolest games i ever played, there is nothing like him because you are literally playing a saturday morning cartoon down to the nonsensical cartoony wacky plot. And funnily enough as soon as I read what you said about the sounds, I almost immediately got the sound of those birds dying in my head as well as various other sound effects. Plus I can't remember which game it was, or if it was specific to one console or the other, but for some reason I also pictured that intro where Jim is playing what looks like an accordion. What a weird game lol.
I don't want to dwell on this, but regarding the controversy of the creator, I would recommend doing your own research into these things rather than listening to what people online say. I'm not sure if you did that or not with this video, but the impression I got was that you heard things about him that you disagreed with. I'm not saying that the creator is a good person per se, I really don't know much about it. But from my personal experience I've seen a lot of times where people will smear and slander people they disagree with, and it's becoming more and more of a problem (again, my experience). So when accusations of controversy pop up, I approach them with a grain of salt and try to do my own research, personally I'd rather be wrong about giving someone the benefit of the doubt, than accusing someone of something they didn't do. I don't feel like it was your intention but it came off like you believed the accusations despite providing no real reason why, instead of being truly neutral like your opening speech implied, so in future I think it would be smarter to make it more clear that you don't have an opinion on the person, or give more of a reason why you feel that way, just so viewers unfamiliar can get some context. Earthworm Jim is the kinda game someone can point to and confidentiality say “that piece of media right there, that game captures what the 90s was all about. For better and for worse”.
When I was a kid I first started liking earthworm Jim simply because his gun shot really fast and he didn't have limited ammo, back then a lot of the games that were like that always regulated how fast you could shoot or just limited how much you could shoot. 🤷♂️ Then the art style was something I found appealing as well since it was so unique at the time
Wait, wait, wait… another person has been pegged “transphobic”? *sigh* You know, there is quite a lot unstated nuance when that statement is made about anyone. I have no idea what the creator if this game is guilty or not guilty of….but I’ll say this, throwing people into a negatively viewed group and calling it a day is dangerous. It reminds me of when Bill Cosby and Louie CK were both being called “sexual assault perpetrators”. While technically true, the golf between those two was almost as vast as the difference between calling human and a cat both creatures that enjoy hunting. Sure, that is true on the surface but there is so much lost in the details there.
Just turned on my PS3 to maybe get legend of mana (pixel art over backgrounds remaster not my visual jam) and forgot I had earthworm jim HD on the sucker. That and earthworm jim 2 on the switch.
Like Im sorry you feel so strongly about the creators politics but what does that have to do with anything ? I get that their are people with strange viewpoints but you still choose to make this video, you choose to put a Spotlight on it and make money with it. If its really such a difficult task to seperate th art from the artist than dont highlight it, unless money is more important than the moral standpoint you claim to have. Or you could take art that was made almost 30 years under a clompletly different media climat as it is presented to you and idk review the game maybe ? Guess that makes too much sense.
Oh no!!! We better not let people know we enjoy art created by people with controversial opinions or lifestyles. I mean, in reality, we should only be allowed to enjoy art that is politically correct, lest we be saddled with guilt by association(by idiots)…And given that it’s 2022…that means I can’t enjoy anything that existed before 2016…My god, how society has fallen😂
The one thing I wanted to see was him completing For Pete's Sake the long way. He is the completionist so taking the easy way out isn't full completion!
The internet forgets about separate the art from the artist. There will be people who you will disagree with. I can guarantee you half the people you interact with like store employees and who did what in a movie will fall into that category. There is no escaping that cause you will always be supporting someone you don't like even if you outcast all of them you just gave them the biggest thing they needed it a group of outcast pushed out of society to do w.e they deem they want. This is a real problem we are facing today now.
It's worth noting the Sega CD version is probably the best version of the game. There's expanded sections of existing levels and an additional level on top of that. There's also a password system (sadly no actual save system), and some bonus endings depending on difficulty. The music ends up being the best of the three old versions as well.
I cant help but feel like you spent too much time in this video saying you didnt agree with the creators. Its fine if you disagree with the creators, but for me personally, I just wanna hear about the game itself more. You do you tho man, its your video after all.
it's funny, games back then were made so stupidly hard because if they were easy, you would complete them in 1 to 3 hours and not bother actually buying, just rent. but like, with old arcade games, when you play them now, they will include infinite credits ability in some way., there's no "turn off the stupidly intense difficulty preventing you from beating the game in a timely fashion" from 90s console games.
The nostalgia is still there, even after decades. I still remember playing the last level as a kid and getting frustrated by the last boss the first time. Until I accidentally whipped her in the face and she just… exploded. Very surprising to say the least, and gruesome for such a cartoony game. One hit kill all the time after that play through.
Never apologize to the mob. They will never be satisfied. Stand your ground. Just the fact that you had to apologize in this video about 4 times. Like you said “ I was proud of the work I put into that video”. Enough said.
This "call out" thing gets tiring. Having to denounce someone or face the consequences before reviewing their 25+ year old game is tiring. Everything revolves around politics and identity it kills creativity.
Dude, great episode overall! I respect your opinion and I agree that this game enters in the "niche" category of rock hard platformers from the 16-bit era. However, I think that the best way to experience this game is playing the Special Edition, available for both the Sega CD and PC. In this version, you kinda get a "completion bonus" for playing on easy and playing on hard. This is a very old game, but I recommend playing for yourself to check what these bonus are about, they are totally worth it in my opinion. (Also, there is an extra level in the Special Edition)
Separate art from the artist. Just because you don’t like an artist/creator doesn’t mean everything they make is bad too. The internet can be great, but often it’s a toxic cesspool where people just like hate and rage about people they don’t know, have never met, and most likely never will meet. Often people’s personal or political beliefs are more complicated than a single interview or tweet can convey. So people need to calm themselves and stop freaking out because someone believes differently then they do and enjoy life.
I had earthworm Jim on the GBA I played that game non-stop my friends grandpa was one of the audio producers for the game which made it all the more cool to me

i LOVED this game as a kid and i always drawn to the weird ( I.E watching ren and stimpy as a kid ) so this game's kinda strange side was super my jam.
I really enjoyed the cartoon as a kid with dan castellaneta as the voice of Jim. I was a LITTLE late to it, playing it around the time of the ps2 era, but still really enjoyed it. I appreciate your opinions of how some of the difficulty is a little bit unfair, and I can agree. Really, the only people who aren't Earthworm Jim fans I can recommend this game to are people who are looking for something distinctly 90s in it's humor and presentation, so the play it score seems more than fair to me. Great episode, great thoughts and great spreading awareness of the terrible opinions by the creator.
I remember that there was another version of Earthworm Jim, some kind of "Special Edition" for Sega CD. What was so special about it, I have no idea, as from what I've seen for myself after playing it there was only one addition, a new level where Jim had to evade an invincible dinosaur Brutie. Also music was completely absent from the game.
I actually have an Earthworm Jim game for the original Gameboy. While it’s not as good as the console versions, it does have its own charm. Well worth playing.
Lol I would LOVE to see you take a crack at Earthworm Jim 3D. The bosses in that game are 100% Harder than Elden rings. That is not even remotely a hyperbole.
The first boss is not bad but everyone after is a nightmare. Me and my friend first tried several of the endgame Elden ring bosses but I'm 28 and still can't beat the second boss
People need to grow up and realize you can appreciate someone's work without agreeing with their world view. I swear the internet has turned into a bunch of cry babies incapable of developing any kind of independent thought.

@@frostynukacola Good. Completion has been weighing him down for years.
I remember loving this game as a kid.
Earthworm Jim All Oh No! Here we go again.
Lame you can’t even stand your ground in the mob
These games are incredibly memorable
It's worth noting the Sega CD version is probably the best version of the game. There's expanded sections of existing levels and an additional level on top of that. There's also a password system (sadly no actual save system), and some bonus endings depending on difficulty. The music ends up being the best of the three old versions as well.
This version is the one they ported to Windows.
I cant help but feel like you spent too much time in this video saying you didnt agree with the creators. Its fine if you disagree with the creators, but for me personally, I just wanna hear about the game itself more. You do you tho man, its your video after all.
Why do you always have to preface games involved with conservatives that you "don't agree" with the creators. Absolutely cringe.
just talk about the game…
I love EWJ i jave him tattooed and am excited for the TV show to drop this year💚 Groovy!!
I remember I couldn't even beat this game with a Game Genie. Very very hard game for a kid to play!
it's funny, games back then were made so stupidly hard because if they were easy, you would complete them in 1 to 3 hours and not bother actually buying, just rent.
but like, with old arcade games, when you play them now, they will include infinite credits ability in some way., there's no "turn off the stupidly intense difficulty preventing you from beating the game in a timely fashion" from 90s console games.
@@Bradofosho amen. Evil hates good. Evil doesn’t create, it only destroys. Evil hates you, me and anyone who is an individual.
God bless brother 🙏🏻
So people need to calm themselves and stop freaking out because someone believes differently then they do and enjoy life.
ah yes three types of games, Triple A, Indie, and FNAF
Ah yes Earthworm Jim, my big brother rented that game a lot when we were kids.
(We owned a Super Nintendo at the time.)
Opening the video with Maximum Carnage got my attention. I don't know anyone else who played it.
Thanks for another great video, Jirard! Always get excited when I see a new upload from you pop up.
Just finished The second one this morning for The first time on My switch. .I could finish earthworm Jim 1 with Just a few deaths..love this games
That glass bubble was a bitch when I was a kid. Amazing game
I had earthworm Jim on the GBA I played that game non-stop my friends grandpa was one of the audio producers for the game which made it all the more cool to me
Halfway into the video and you're still ranting about the games meta and politics, I'm out
The ole Earthworm Jim show was great.
you need to do Cris tales it's a game about time travel and it's very cute and it has a nice twist at the end there's not that many collectibles but I think you'll enjoy it.
i LOVED this game as a kid and i always drawn to the weird ( I.E watching ren and stimpy as a kid ) so this game's kinda strange side was super my jam.
Just because you dont share an someone's view you can still enjoy the product.
I suggested this! THANK YOU!
So many pieces of art were done by bad people or people with controversial opinions. We just not going to talk about them?
You should play and complete Mickey Mania PlayStation & Genesis.
I had the Game Boy version growing up. It wasn't that great, looking back. I always hated glass dome part of Down the Tubes.
So no acheivements/trophys from a 1990's action game? Seriously? THAT is a criticism?
I used to play the Sega version all the time. I never owned it but a family member did and I was over there a lot.
I played it on my brother's genesis ....this video brings back memories...
Just a note, Earthworm Jim is also on NSO currently, so if you want the SNES version, there's an option there too.
People need to grow up and realize you can appreciate someone's work without agreeing with their world view. I swear the internet has turned into a bunch of cry babies incapable of developing any kind of independent thought.
Worse than that, it's turned people into thinking having an opinion you don't like is akin to mass murder.

I just looked up Doug TenNapel to see what the controversy was all about. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'll now be 100% supporting all his work in the future. It's great to see a pro-family man of faith in the comics industry these days for once. I'm absolutely going to go purchase copies of whatever works of his I can get my hands on.
Haha at least one person in the comments with common sense. I cringed so hard when Jirard did this awkward disclaimer because he's afraid of twatter hate mobs.
@@napoleonfeanor Yep, pretty obvious virtue signalling from Jirard here. Really quite embarrassing.

Let's be honest, even if Aladdin for Genesis/Megadrive is amazing, Shiny Entertainment has never mastered the art of the hitboxes... You get use it, but it is hard work to finish any game they developped... I found many tricks to finish Earthwork Jim "easily" but it took me hours of play to find them and optimize my runs! And this is also why I still prefer Aladdin by Capcom on Super Nintendo. It is a pleasure to play the game, not hard work...
This was one of those games I’d rent every so often when I was a kid. It was unique with its characters and their designs. I had fun with it, but I can understand you not enjoying it. Personally, I’m just a sucker for weird games. :P
I've been getting clips from the TV show in my RUclips suggestion box for a while and, yeah it's pretty weird. Still hilarious, though.
I love Earthworm Jim. That's was my childhood icon game of all time. It shape me to become inspire with the video game genra as a whole. Thanks, Jirad.
