Love this video. I am 57 now. About to pull the trigger. My first love is Hong Kong. Lived there twice. Second time was a disaster. Now I'm at the gates of my 3rd time. My parents have both passed. I have no family here and few friends. Most married and moved away. I have good friends in HK. Thailand is my second choice. I have the money and health to do it now. Your video is inspiring. The hard part will be resigning. After that, I will most likely wonder why I hadn't done it earlier. Cheers!

I am amazed at the scope and breadth of your conversation.
Clearly it took a lot of thought and planning to make such a well constructed video.
My Thai wife of 28 years who is 64, I’m nearly 66.
We are currently spending some annual leave in Korat in our house.
I still have the job in Australia which is complex and interesting but all consuming.
The major hurdle is health which is probably best dealt with in Australia and there is still some way to go with that. Hope to retire soon to a life where we can indulge in our own future.
    Well done!

Thank you for the kind comment, John. I did put a fair bit of thought and research into this one and appreciate you taking note.
I think I might have stayed at my job another year or so but I felt like I hit my creative ceiling and it was more “rinse and repeat” and that’s when I knew it was time for the next adventure. If you still find your job interesting (and not burning years off your life) then you have scored!
I’m with you on the health topic. It’s a must!
Wish you and your wife all the best!
      Ed

Think of the bravery of just admitting that! Breath deep and meditate on the fact that in 100 years all of those who will remember you will also all be gone. This is YOUR time. Don’t let this beautiful life pass you by.

Hi guys, this particular post really hits home for me as at the ripe age of 59 i decided to retire early after a lot of ambivalence even though it means a significant hit on my company pension.I am Irish but have been living in Canada since 82. I am in the process of selling everything and i am really looking forward to not owning anything.
Its been amazing the reaction from both friends, family and acquaintances. Some friends were concerned mainly because they cared about my well being but later came around to seeing my perspective and were fully behind my decision. Then the larger group of individuals whom i think were really projecting either their fears or jealousy and forgive the following expletive, but continued to Piss on my parade and always reference the money i was leaving on the table.
i am the type of person that tends to over analyze and swing back and forth between ambivalence and clarity, but when my mind is sorted out will then pull the proverbial pin and be fully committed. So to anyone else out there who is experiencing ambivalence over such a life changing decision be patient with yourself and stay away from the naysayers who's main goal in life is to keep you stuck in their safe world with them.
When i do arrive in Thailand in mid September i will make sure to drop by and say hello.
Excuse the long winded story but Irish people are great for having the gift of the gab lol. Have a peaceful week guys and love your content for its realness if that is an actual word. Sincerely Joseph

Irish on my father’s side so no need to explain the Gift of Gab to me, Joseph😂. Very much enjoyed reading your story and much appreciate you sharing it here.
I do a fair bit of research before a video like this but in the end I still end up thinking “god, I hope some people can relate and find value in this.” Reading an extended comment like yours is precisely the kind of confirmation that I’m hoping to receive.
Look forward to speaking with you in person sometime soon.
Thanks for taking the time to write. I’m absolutely sure that your words will be echoed and appreciated by others.
All the best and screw the Negative Nannies! Tell ‘em to suck an egg!😆

You nailed it on this one! We have known for eons that we wanted to live on an island and in the end we sold everything. We love a calm life now on Koh Samui, have gotten the family and friends who are dear to us still in touch with messenger video chats. We researched and researched regarding banking, health insurance and bringing our cat. We love it here, don’t really look back on our decision and your video has some fantastic starting points everyone needs to look at and dig deep into if they are planning to retire that involves a move even within their home country. 🙏❤️🙏

I respect your decision of this retirement and felt it is a wise choice . I love Asia and is a dream to follow your heart how to settle retirement with passion. For me.... not super hot weather and I love London .... Haha ... is too expensive but I go there during winter for long stay. Will be based myself in Singapore. Thanks Ed for an interesting subject how people look for retirement with your some advise, Remember to tell Tomo and yourself to wear load of sunblock to protect your skin,

I'm shocked that the richest country in the world has a life expectancy of 73m 79f. I had to check and yes its true. I was pleased to find out that for Australia its 81m 85f. But why the 8 year difference America? Here in oz I see some work colleges retire and soon after die or fall into poor health. I bet every one of them wished they had retired sooner.

If you look more deeply at the data in the states you can see how much it’s influenced by economic factors and education. It’s really messed up. That and poor diet for a lot of folks. It’s sad how bad it’s gotten.
Thanks for viewing and your thoughtful comment.
