Paul Newman raced cars himself and later ran a successful Indycar team. Having Doc on the radio in the film's climax was a tribute to Newman himself, who was a well-known fixture on the pit wall for years.
Number 1 argument in elementary school were the boys all debating over whether the King was a superbird or a charger Daytona. I always knew he was a superbird because that’s the car that lured petty back to race with Chrysler in NASCAR. But believe me it would turn into a shouting match of squeaker voices. 😂😂😂
Forgot to mention, The King are voiced by Richard Petty, the racer who drove light blue Superbird no.43 that's an origin of The King's character
Besides, Strip's nephew Cal Weathers is voiced by Kyle Petty, who is the son of Richard.
His wife lynda Weathers is also voiced by Lynda petty, Richard's voice. And Richards title was also Richard "The King" Petty.

Mater is actually a '55 to '56 Chev' truck. He's the same model that Clint Eastwood drove in Every Which Way But Loose.
He said i can provide you with a specific brand and model. And provided a clearly wrong brand model. Just wow... It looks like this dude doesn't know that much about automobiles.
Mater also looks like a 1957 Dodge truck
In the first film there also have Richard Petty, Mario Andretti, Michael Schumacher and Dale jr. a voice role and in Cars 2 in the Lewis Hamilton/ Emerson Fittipaldi scene, in other languages you also have Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Vitaly Petrow as the same car
Also something I thought would have fit if he didn't die would have been Dale senior as Chick Hicks
In the australian version we had mark winterbottom (frosty) who is a v8 supercar driver
in cars 2 also have sebastian lobe
Dale Sr as chick hicks would be a massive personality clash. It wouldn't be unfair to say Dale Sr was all about winning, but he was about it for the sake of winning, not for the glory. Very different character motivations.
A character like Chick is best voiced by a non-driver because they're supposed to be irredeemable, a moustache-twirling villain.

When my daughter was younger, for some reason, she didn’t trip on Barbie, Disney Princess stuff, or any of the typical little girl stuff, she was addicted to Cars. She must have watched this film EVERY SINGLE DAY for probably 5 to 6 years. She had posters of Flash, Mater, Sally, etc, in her room. At Christmas she’d ask for Cars toys and Cars lego. Whenever I’d buy her clothes, we always went and looked in the boys section to see if they had Cars clothes. I got her the Cars video games for her DS and gamecube. Her birthdays were always Cars themed. She had all the little die cast HotWheels Cars cars (only they weren’t the HotWheels brand)
Anyway, you get my point. She LOVED Cars! I’m sure a lot of dads would be jealous, and I’m soooo glad I didn’t have to go through like a decade of pink Disney princess bullshit🤣🙏🏻

Corvette is one of the cars that inspires McQueen's design, but there's also the Ford GT40, Lola T70, Porsche 911 and Dodge Viper

He's also the chief mechanic to the late Marshall Teague with the Fabulous Hudson Hornet #6
Louise Nash is inspired by the first lady of racing Louise Smith with her Nash Ambassador
Leroy Heming is based on the 1955 Chrysler C-300 hence the legendary letter series which is based on the same car Tim Flock drove in the 1955 NASCAR season he also drove the fabulous Hudson hornet #91 and the 1957 Mercury #15
Junior Moon was inspired by the late voice actor and driver Junior Johnson the NASCAR icon known as the last American hero
Kings inspiration is doc. He crashes like doc, but unlike doc king had the rookie "help" him to the finish line.
In Cars 4, we need NASCAR Formula One and IndyCar drivers

McQueen is not based on any real car, but probably a generation IV stock car mixed with a Chevy Corvette. The gen IV was used in the NASCAR cup series from 1994 to 2007, in the Busch nationwide series until 2010, and by the ARCA Menards series until 2017

King was also heavily inspired by the Dodge Charger Daytona since that shared a lot of similarities to the Plymouth Superbird

I think is was quite clever of the writers to make the villains of Cars 2 unwanted American and Soviet cars banded together as an organisation bent on revenge. You can tell the people behind the Cars series know their cars well.
It is funny that every City seems to have a car name but California is still California. And it looks like Lightning and Mack are leaving Nashville after the first race in the first movie.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they took some inspiration from Dale Earnhardt Sr with Chick Hicks.
