Shawn in the interview is talking about the real banana not sweet plantain .it is a Latin custom or the Caribbean to pair a savory dish with a banana . It is not mixed with the food , it is paired . You serve rice. Meat and beans and you put a banana and eat a bite together with your food . Same thing with sweet plantain .My coworkers used to look at me like I was weird because , whenever I was eating lentils soup I used to cut a banana in pieces and eat it up together with my soup. I explained to them that that was a Latino thing so they were very receptive and respectful after the explanation. Sorry it is the way we Latinos are. I told them . The only thing I haven’t tried is bananas with pasta . I am very surprised because I eat bananas almost with all my food . If you go to my house you will always find a banana.
