Congratulations, great job !!!! Get up here to the Adirondack mountains , This is my stomping grounds for years and still is . Hunt out of a 14x16 wall tent but now looking to get a 12x18 because of sons , brother , grandson . The tent now would do sleep 8 but want little more room . You get here you will love the woods keep in mind they are big old woods with lots big game , trout fishing, eatable things like nuts , berries, plants . Big waters , big creeks , ponds , rivers . You get a chance look for books on it , and books of hermits that lived in the woods .

Pooter Stomper it gets real cold in winter and tons of snow , look for book hermit named Rondue they have his cabin and all his stuff at Blue mountain museum up there
The hummingbirds left here yesterday. Leaves are changing.
Hummingbirds have been gone in the Daks for weeks.
It has been below freezing in the traditional cold spots up there already.
On June 15th you can expect 30° in Panther Gorge and a number of places inside the blue line.

Awesome job, brother! Happy for you. The sandals sounded like a fun one. I have cut rubber in the past and it is unbelievably tough. The trick is water. Pouring it at the cut takes the friction off the blade and makes it slice. The puuko looks great. Cheers

Your family is the most important thing.
In the 'Daks' (what we call them up here), be prepared for wet feet.
Wool is fantistic.
But get you some poly pro liner sox.
Try not to work up a sweat.
(If your cloths are wet from the inside, you may as well be outside)
On the other side even if you are not thirsty drink all the water you can hold.
Watch the shore line of the lakes and ponds.
They are warm and you cannot trust the ice.
Also quicksand can be found.
If you are forced to drink unfiltered water, you have a few days before
' beaver fever'sets in.
Dehydration is one of the first signs of hypothermia .
It does not have to be all that cold.
When you can see your breath, that is water leaving.
It Sneaks Up.

The Daks where my back yard for years. And I do not speak from conjecture.
Keep a clear head. If that gets tough, make sure you are hydrated.
Rotate you sox, even if you think they are dry.

First of all congratz with completing the course. You also showed a good way to get rid of the mandatory hatchet. Just leave it at camp the first day so you don't have to carry it around any more. In the survival part of my basic, intermediate and advanced classes you don't even get to bring an ax/hatchet or saw but all you get to keep is the knife. Each school has it's own curriculum and way of teaching and they are often not comparable. It's more what you like. My advanced classes are 10 days in a totally new environment. So if you are used the the boreal forest it's gonna be jungle, tundra or desert and vice versa.

@@TonyPowers_Dirtbound things are going okay now. I had a bit of bad luck at the end of July into August. I fell and broke two ribs and one rib punctured my lung and collapsed it. I was in the Hospital and had a tube put in my chest to inflate my lung. That is a painful procedure. You are not numbed and fully awake as they insert the tube. Lucky me had to have it put in twice because they didn't get it in the right area the first time. Plus no one had done one at that Hospital so I was the doctors first and she kept pushing the tube in and pulling it out then pushing it in again. Not a fun time, lol. I also had internal bruising and nerve irritation too from the fall.Then when I got home I dropped an icepack on my jaw. I have chronic migraines and use icepacks for them along with my meds. I fractured my jaw and irritated the nerve as well as had a blocked saliva duct and was swollen and in pain. So I was on a liquid diet. Then soft foods and now a bit more harder foods but still not things that are to hard to crunch. Yep so August was a bust for me, lol. I hope you are all doing well and staying safe.
