I’m on episode 4 right now and feel like as of right now TD season 1 blows this out of water. It’s too obvious what is going to happen. Maybe I’m wrong tho. I hope I am. I live for a good surprise.
6:37, jack didn’t have cancer in the book. The outside claimed to have given him cancer when touching the back of his neck. But then later it’s revealed that he just kind of poisoned him with his touch “like poison ivy” (the comparison the outsider uses in the book) and tricked jack into thinking it was cancer, specifically because he rummaged through jacks fears and found the memories of his mother dying horribly from skin cancer.
3rd grave is for the Peterson mother. She had a meltdown, flailed the baseball bat around then had a heart attack. This happened before the death of the second son. Hence the coffin salesman offering them a deal on 2 coffins.
Wow, I totally missed that, I was wondering what happened to her, as they never showed it and I also wasn't sure if that was her swinging the baseball bat, cause she had long hair and I thought it was short.
I really appreciate your videos. Although Im loving The Outsider I don't have a clue what is going on. Your videos breaks it down that I can rewatch with understanding. Thank you
It's not gonna be a "DARK" kinda thing. BTW - the best show I have seen except from this. (And a bunch of others) I really love this interpretation of The Outsider.
Wish Holly wasn't rushed into the story this way, but I understand why. Coming on the heels of another highly regarded Holly Gibney adaptation, I hope they at least make the Hodges connection. The happy slapper deserves mention.
Any connection to the Hodges stuff is unlikely since Price has not read or seen The Mr. Mercedes series. He wrote her to be independent from King's work.
I hate this character interpretation in this adaptation. I rolled my eyes at seeing her be rude and belittle a white man to show the audience that she's a no nonsense professional who's willing to put the patriarchy in its place. Truly a DEI, woke inspired interpretation of the character.
I thought that Cynthia Erivo did a great job at being Holly, albeit a much sadder one so this one may not have experienced the Hodges trilogy, I was hoping for a mention of those cases or a cameo. The Mr Mercedes show Holly was ok but I imagine it would not be easy to be exactly like the book version of Holly but I love her character shows up in more books.
Glad to find your channel. I appreciate the insight and the spoilers actually help to understand the way the show is putting events together. Really liking the introduction of Holly. It's a slow burn, but I have high hopes.
Enjoyed your program. Almost more than the orginal because you linked it together so much better. I found myself confused at times. It jumped around so much going from young girl who saw her dad to the guy in the cell who killed himself, oh and guy who hung himself to the guy with rash on neck.. Jumped so much with out clarity. Oh and forgot the barn seen.. Didn't hear why they were even there at first. You cleared it all up.. Thanks.
***spoilers**** The outsider is a psychic vampire, feeding off sadness. He has the ability to get into someone’s head almost like an extreme form of suggestion. He can only do this to people he’s touched like jack, his victims, and his victims families like the Peterson’s. When the outsider becomes someone he gets their memories. The fingerprints were degrading because he was changing forms not because he was terry’s father.
OMH😍 thanks HS I did not read this book and was so lost till she mentioned doppelgänger I caught it and you just summed it up. Whenever I’m lost I rush to your channel and pray you are watching also 💋ty
I don't think it did. The little girl said this way in the story. Maybe they should have mentioned it earlier. I found a lot confusing.. and left out..
If you are going to summarize parts of the book you need to actually read it. Jack does NOT have cancer. His mother had it. The Outsider explains exactly what he did to Jack. And the creature is not a vampire.
I was wondering that as well. At first I thought it would be motivation for finding Frankie's killer, but I think dealing with the mutilated corpse of a little boy is motivation enough. They could have left the son out altogether.
If I’m not mistaken there were three graves, one for the first brother killed, the second for the mother who had a heart attack and the open one for the older Brother.
I agree I counted but it went so fast on this. The scene of the two grave caregivers with shovels were suppose to imply this? Another grave. Not sure. But no one dig graves with a shovel anymore..that I know of and I live in the country..
the father that hung himself lost his WHOLE family...1 to the outsider, his wife with the pain of losing her youngest son with a heart attack, and his oldest from getting shot so he has/had nothing to live for...so all of those graves are for the 2 kids and his wife...he's still on life support as far as well know...
Sally's character reminds me of Eleven, from Stranger Things(ST). Episode 5(?) When Sally is researching The Coco one of the monsters she finds reminds me of the upside down creature from (ST). It's a really well done series, thanks for the reviews.
Can anyone figure out why The Outsider is tormeting Jack, yet with Terry and the bloke who offed himself in prison seem to not even acknowledge his existence? Its as if he goes after people in completely different ways? Some have the mark on the necks and some do not? Jack seems to be the only one "watching him work."
You can actually see the outsider crouched down behind Jess on the staircase in the shadow. Almost seemed like he was controlling what she said at that point. Check it out.
The Outsider is definitely a doppelgänger of Terry that is beginning to waste away for some reason. It must strongly tie in with him getting his hand cut while in Dayton, the greatest place in America to take a vacation in by the way. I’m really trying to understand what the neck injury was. He clearly was not attacked by the outsider in the barn. It was like it infected him. Is that possibly how this thing attaches itself to its next victim? So much to uncover
Nah im pretty sure its been said the creature attacks people who are sad, like the creature from IT lives on Fear, this creature last night seem to have (bitten) attacked Jack? Look at his neck.. also, Terry's daughter told them all about her dream; how it went from the guy in her room looking like her dad, than his face was "erased", but than once Terry was shot and killed, a new man (new look) appeared, she said he was "inky" meaning tattoo's - which Jack has. The creature is able to shift into people (humans) and use there DNA, hence why Terry was able to be at two places at once, but it wasnt the real Terry. Hard to explain but if you read the book, and the show follows the book more, it makes sense. But its possible the go a doppleganger route, but i dont see it. I see the creature moving on from person to person this season.
I know this comment will be lost, but does anybody else not like Holly Gibney? And no it’s *NOT* because she is black. Her character changes the entire tone of the show. The way she is, the way the character is acted. She feels like the writers are conveying an “autistic supergenius.” The show felt very grounded with a sense of dread... yet in episode 3, it’s becoming corny. It’s a shame because the first two episodes were excellent!
Deckard 100% feel the same way. The introduction of her character has been whack as shit. The scene with her and the nurse at the front desk was so painful. All of her interactions and mannerisms seem forced and the writing for her dynamic is noticeably weaker than the other characters.
I'm thinking the shows going to add a few elements to the outsider, seeing these abilities effectively destroying the community is quite interesting. This reminds me of nightmare on maple street in the twilight zone, but instead it's the superstition that's takes a part to the community's.
I think the Outsider is an extra dimensional creature, like "It" and Dandelo from "The Dark Tower". Glamours, that don't have a true form, so they depend on aspects of their host to give them shape. They feed on life energy from sentient beings. "It" was a retarded (for lack of a better word) Deadlight, feeding on the raw emotion of fear. Dandelo and The Outsider are more outwardly mobile and complex, feeding on mirth and sadness respectively.
I went to Reddit and was very spoiled by the supernatural part of the show how one suspect can be in two places at one time. I wish I didn't know, now I don't care after being spoiled.
Why do you keep forgetting that the Peterson family had two parents and two kids, three of whom are officially dead and one of whom is on life support after his suicide attempt. I assume the first two graves are the youngest boys and his mothers and the third is waiting for the eldest boy who only recently died.
I really was annoyed by the character of GLORY'S daughter thought, one moment she's telling stuff another second she's like "oh I'm tired now" like if you freackin open your GODDAMN mouth everything can be way more easier and loads of lives can be saved

Episodes 1 and 2 were so good. The actress who played Holly ruined it for me. She’s a terrible actress, hard to watch. I don’t think I can finish the season, she was that bad.
I was loving this show. I'm current on episode 3. I had to come here and comment on that black woman, the tracker. Such a racist character. It's obvious the character is made to be Woke to the degree that we're supposed to be impressed by her but she makes me want to quit the show. Her introduction, having her belittle and be rude to a random white man to show the audience that she's a no nonsense professional who will stand up to the patriarchy. I am so annoyed at the interpretation of this character.
I read the book. Not one of his best, by any means, but it had its moments. Granted, I'm a huge King fan, so I tend to give him a pass. That being said, this show is feeling pretty uninspired so far. The whole thing is all very one-note, when it's not just plain awful. I hear the guy playing Anderson is supposed to be a great actor. That may be so, but acting depressed, mopey, and resigned in EVERY scene isn't very compelling. Yes, yes...I understand they changed it up from the book and gave him the whole parent-in-mourning subtext, but he and his wife are just...dull. In fairness, this mirrors the impression I got from the book, just King churning out way too many words for what's at heart a very formulaic monster tale wrapped around an incredibly by-the-numbers police procedural full of cliches rather than fully-realized characters. Why? Because Stephen King is old now. And the sad truth is that when artists get old they produce uninspired echoes of their former work, for the most part. Also, that actress playing Holly Gibney seems like she came straight from performing at a high school musical. A good director would have re-shot several of her scenes until she didn't seem like a complete amateur. Cringe-inducing, to say the least. Not all her fault, as the character was plain silly in the book as well.

I'm addicted to this show. It's as good as first season of true detectives in my opinion. It's done so well. And I'm hooked

Very accurate. I think its a mix of True Detective with some Ozark vibes as well.
