I know the pain so well. I was told I have losis with my last colon check but I have the systems of Itis. I was also told I have IBS. When it happens the pain is so depressing that I can not even sleep as this rock is sitting in the middle of my colon. Thus far, nothing works or they do for a while and then stop working. @@dennisdonoghue9202hello someone mentioned oregano oil; right now I have been taking Tylenol am and pm as needed . It’s my first time with diverticulitis, and I just came out of the ER for testing so they can give me antibiotics.
I’m on a clear liquid diet this week, so the bowels and inside can rest. I only had sugar free pedialyte and the broth of pho (soup), but it still gave me the thing that rhymes with Rhea. So I think maybe I should just stick to very small amounts of broth or just drink the sugar free pedialyte or electrolytes until these antibiotics kick in.
I hope you feel better soon! Looks like I’ll need to cut out a lot of foods from my diet.
Also this may be unrelated , but I feel like besides a hot/ heat pad or nice hot shower on the abdomen area, placing a grounding /earthing mat on my stomach (or laying on it directly stomach side down, skin touching) seems to keep the pain/cramping down while I am laying down.

I had a really bad diverticulitis attack a couple of years ago and was taken to hospital by ambulance. My wife found me on the kitchen floor unconscious seven in the morning. The crash of me passing out alerted her. I probably would not be here if not for her. I spent a week in hospital. The pain was severe but fortunately for me I pulled through. My mom’s sister died from this disease at fifty two.

I suffered all of my adult life with severe chronic pain in my lower left abdomen then a yr ago I was diagnosed with diverticulosis at the age of 46. I have had bouts of acute diverticulitis often and thought I had to just deal with it. No doctors took me seriously and dismissed it as my IBS(c) which can get frustrating with diet. Too much fiber aggrivates the IBS and too little flares up the diverticulitis. I feel I live on antibiotics and kombucha and the only way to keep the stool soft is to take 4x the recommended dose of restoralax. I feel for everyone suffering this horrid disease. Thank you for your thorough explanation as I can now articulate it from a medical point to those in my family who think I just have to take an exlax and suck it up.

I have had diverticulosis for about 15 years. Chills, lower back pain, then fever and lower left abdominal pain followed. I started to write a book about diet, but never finished. No everything bagels or 7 grain breads. Any spices and condiments you shake from a bottle should be avoided. Use fresh instead. Chew, chew, chew your food well. Certain veggies and greens will upset your stomach. Anything with seeds I still avoid and disagree with ignoring this by Dr's now. Have Cipro always on hand and go to a liquid diet or soft diet of you think you are having an attack. Exercise gently when you are having a full blown attack. No more Caprice salad. I take the seeds out of my tomatoes and dice them. Diet is real important. Eat slower and chew.

I suffered with diverticular disease for 15 yrs. I ended up with Sepsis 3 times, it’s in my opinion classed as a minor ailment compared to say Chron’s. I ended up needing surgery after being left too long. When they operated they discovered my bowel had sealed over, I cannot describe the severe pain I was in. I ended up requiring a colostomy which was devastating to me at the time. 5 yrs on it was the best thing that happened, I have no pain and am not chancing having the reversal op. After every attack I slowly build up the fibre content and eat mostly paleo, lots of fibre and water. I am 40, not overweight, not smoking and I work out when not sick. Since I, and even more so my workplace, is getting tired of this I now am trying a desperate move - going carnivore on the the lion diet. Hello Cathy, thank you for the video. I had a very strange experience over the past week and a half, wanted to bring it up to hopefully answer my question as well as any readers that may be wondering. I apologize ahead of time for the length of this comment, but it has been a long week and a half, and a lot has happened.
I am a 60 year old male, very fit, great diet, exercise regularly and had none of the symptoms you described that could lead me to believe something was going on in my intestines.
On Friday, July 7th, I had my wife drive me to the ER because of severe pain in my lower right back / hip area. I had never experienced pain like this, and had no idea what it might be because two days earlier I had passed my annual physical with flying colors. I was also examined about three weeks prior to that with an ultrasound of my bladder and kidneys that was perfectly normal. So, I was not thinking kidney or kidney stones.
After about an hour in the ER waiting room, one of the triage women said she was asking a doctor if he could give me something for the pain. It was obvious how much pain I was in, and everyone at the ER was thinking kidney stones. However, after they ran a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis, it showed all organs, including my kidneys, were fine with no signs of stones.
The ER doctor then told me the scan showed diverticula on my colon, and the diagnosis was diverticulosis with no evidence of diverticulitis. I had no idea a the time, because I did not know anything about the condition, but after returning home and doing research, I started having my doubts as to why I was still in pain. This was after I was given Norco, a shot of Toradol and a Lidocaine patch, all within a two hour period, which all did absolutely nothing for my pain.
As you mentioned in this video, when pain is associated with this condition, it is in the lower LEFT abdomen. My pain was in my lower RIGHT BACK. I never had any pain in my abdomen on either side. This should have been a flag for the doctor, but he sent me home in almost as much pain as I came in with. After asking him (because he was not giving ANY advice) what I should do, he told me to "eat more spinach and broccoli", and "don't lift heavy weights".
I still had pain in my lower right side all last week (July 10th to July 14th). I also had been on a liquid diet, because my wife and I researched what to do with the condition, and as mentioned in this video, to give your system a rest, liquid diets are recommended for a few days. By Wednesday (5 days of no solid food), I had lost 4 pounds, and was not feeling any improvement with my pain. On Thursday I started slowly adding some solid food, because I was feeling worse, and didn't want to keep losing weight.
On Friday, July 14th, I woke up with more of a sharp pain in my lower back than it had been since the previous weekend. I went to an Urgent Care that has a former ER doctor on staff. After showing him all of the ER paperwork, telling him my symptoms and him examining me, he concluded the pain I had has NOTHING to do with diverticulosis, that it was on the wrong side, and that I had something wrong with my right hip. He recommended seeing an Orthopedic doctor and gave me a referral name.
Unfortunately, their first appointment wasn't until August, so I planned on calling on Monday to find someone that had an appointment in the coming week. Over the weekend, after speaking with friends of ours, we were referred to a chiropractor that had helped this friend when he had major trouble with his back. I went to my first appointment with the chiropractor this morning (Monday, July 17th), with another two (so far) appointments planned. We have a plan for treatment, and I will be getting an MRI of my hip and surrounding area to find what the actual problem is for the chiropractor to work on.
Moral of the story, just because a doctor tells you something, do not take their word automatically, especially if you know your body well enough, and you are pretty sure they have given you incorrect information.

Thanks for sharing, and YES doctors don’t always get it right! You definitely have to advocate for yourself and seek alternative opinions sometimes… I am curious what you were able to find out and how you are feeling?

    • @marcd1981
      @marcd1981 Год назад +7

@@LevelUpRN Hello again, Cathy. Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, this is Monday, July 31st, and my saga continues with no end in sight.
I had the MRI done as mentioned in my first comment, and the chiropractor's main concern (from our discussion about the results) was spinal stenosis. He saw no evidence of that, which he was happy about, because he said he could be a little more aggressive with his treatment.
He also told me the only thing he saw out of the ordinary was some bulging (2% to 3%) of my disks, which he didn't seem to be worried about. And I'm not a doctor, so I don't know if there is an acceptable limit for this. Other than that, he has no idea what the pain in my side is being caused by.
So, I wake up in the morning with what I can only describe as pressure in my right side (inside where the "love handle" area is), which will get worse as I sit to have breakfast. Within 10 to 15 minutes of sitting, it gets very uncomfortable, and then it will start to hurt, and I have to lay on my back. This is the only thing that relieves the pain, is laying down. As soon as I'm back on my feet, it all starts again.
I don't think I mentioned this in my first post, that the "love handle" area on my right side has been numb this entire time, as well. More than three weeks now, and it is still numb. It doesn't travel anywhere else, not to my leg, not to my groin, it is just the "love handle" area. I don't know if there is a specific medical term for this part of the body, but I figure "love handle" is well known and gets the point across.
This is getting very frustrating, as I had mentioned in my first post, I am a very active and fit person. Regularly workout during the week with stair climbing and hiking on weekends. Before this started, I was in the best shape I had been in in probably 15 years. My resting heart rate was actually down to 48 to 50 bpm, my blood pressure was 116 / 66, all blood (CBC) work was excellent, with my doctor telling me after my annual physical that I was "the epitome of health" just two days prior to this pain starting.
For the last three weeks, I have not done my workouts, stairs or hiking, as I have no idea what I can, or can't do. The doctors cannot tell me what this is, and if I try to do my normal exercise routine, I don't know if I'll do more damage than is already done.
So, I'm continuing with the chiropractor treatments, which spinal decompression was added to on my last visit. He has a doctor on staff two days a week, and I have an appointment to see them tomorrow.

I had belly pain for over a year that the doc was blaming on a nerve in my back. In fact, it was diverticulitis. I ended up in the hospital for a week when they also discovered that I had developed a fistula from my colon to my bladder. Per normal procedure, they did a colonoscopy. The next day they set up a surgery date to repair the fistula and sent me home (a 2 1/2 hr drive). I was home a couple of hours, passed out and taken to the local ER. It was discovered my spleen had been lacerated and massive blood loss. They life flighted me back down to where I just came home from and did an emergency splenectomy, spending another week in the hospital. I found out that I had over 7 to 9 units of blood and was not given much chance, less than 5%, of survival. I now have other complications, still need the fistula surgery, and still dealing with that infection. To be honest, I'm afraid to have any more surgeries knowing the risks. I hope everyone else has better luck then I did.

Thanks great information. I was diagnosed with mild diverticulosis after my colonoscopy, age 61. I was in shock. I eat healthy meals, eat high-fiber foods, don't smoke or eat red meat, exercise daily, and hike up high-altitude peaks all year around. I have regular BM daily. How did I get diverticulosis? It could be age stress, or wine & cocktails. How can I prevent diverticulitis?

Sometimes it is just genetics… Sounds like your lifestyle is super healthy, so definitely keep that up. Also as I mentioned, MOST people don’t have symptoms with diverticulosis. So hopefully you’ll never experience that!

I also have taken good care with my diet and get exercise, so was also shocked at my diverticulosis diagnosis a couple days ago after my colon! I’m 73. Hadn’t had a colonoscopy for 12 years. At that time things were fine. Geez!

Had to go to ER earlier this week. Was painful for about a week and decided this isn’t going away. Had NO idea I have diverticulitis. Not pleasant.
