    How to trade indices. What are indices? Some facts, tips and guidelines on trading indices. Obviously first you need to decide which index you are going to trade. There are plenty of indices out there. The most popular are the DOW 30, DAX, FTSE 100, Nasdaq 100 and Nikkei 225. DOW 30 and DAX 30 are some of the most popular and most volatile indices you can trade. Your next step is to decide whether you're bullish or bearish, i.e. do you think that that index is going to go up or down? OK.

      This information is a bit generic. I'd be interested to hear more in depth thoughts of specific indices, and how they work and behave.

      I enjoy lots of your content but do you think you achieved 'How to trade indices'? You spent most of the video talking about the names and then the open-close times. Any chance you could do a spread bet vid with indices explaining margin requirements/account size/risk per point/spreads etc. i.e. how to trade indices (sorry if this is rather impertinent btw xx) Plug your preferred provider as well I don't mind :D

      See here ruclips.net/video/OfyhDBmgBNs/видео.html Note that margins are now fixed depending on the regulatory jurisdiction (an European provider will currently have margins as set by ESMA for instance).

    Surprised you don't have S&P 500 as in my opinion is probably best of to trade..As you mostly get good set ups during the futures and unlike Dax the spread is very tight which is good..Speaking of the Dax it's a POS! Most of the time like Dow 30 as market makers can move those indices with ease by only moving the most weighted stocks to stop hunt the retail investors..

      Same I've been trading the s&p, it best reflects the US economy, and it has good spreads and good liquidity.

      @ukspreadbetting  5 лет назад

      I agree - the S&P500 is a good way to trade the USA markets - see ruclips.net/video/OfyhDBmgBNs/видео.html

      @@MrAmbrosse The S&P does not reflect the U.S. economy. Right now the S&P doing well while small caps are getting hammered would indicate a slowing economy with monopolized capital flow. Not good. But ya, the S&P is great to trade.

    As someone with a very basic long-term investment portfolio (FTSE global index plus some others), do you reckon it's worth the time/effort to trade such indices via technical analysis using a 1-day timescale (or thereabouts)? Interested to hear your opinions on this!

    • @ukspreadbetting
      @ukspreadbetting  5 лет назад

      Not everyone is suited to short-term day trading so if you only have a basic long term investment portfolio and have limited interest in the stock market - day trading might not be for you.

    • @JivanPal
      @JivanPal 5 лет назад +2

      @@ukspreadbetting, oh, I'm not talking about day-trading - when I said "1-day timescale", I meant using candlestick charts with 1-day candles. I'm considering short-ish trades, holding a position for a few days or a few weeks.

    Would you suggest trading vehicles for DAX and FTSE with decent liquidity to trade in the US? That's may have been very useful to include. I found nothing for DAX, but EWU seems ok for the UK market [mostly multiday, poor for day trading]?

      Indexes is plural for an index so typically referring to more than one index. Indexes is another word for Indices so yes you're right.
