  • After 20 years of water damage and tree roots destroying the limestone, the south facing wall gets restored! Watch us use the original method of building with limestone mortar, limestone rock and a whole lot of time to restore this side of the structure.
Hvala Ladi za pomoč na botan in kamen.
This video is dedicated to Marta Polanec and Michael Roach: two family members who passed away on the same day, thousands of miles apart on April 30th, 2024.

Nice to see old masonry techniques reused. Just one comment: Shouldn't some rocks stand out at the left side to later connect with the rest of the then rebuilt wall?

Thanks! Yes, it's hard to see from the angle of the camera, but there are more rocks hanging out in the center and the backside to tie it in 🙂

    Can you use harder stones?

Yes, we ordered 3 cubic meters of a more dense stone that better for building. We incorporated lots of larger stones into the wall with the harder rock (those are the deep brownish/red colored rocks that you occasionally see in the build). We only reused limestone that was strong and unlikely to laminate in our lifetimes :)
Also, lamination is largely caused by water and plant roots, so after the walls are repaired, we will be using more modern water proofing techniques to prevent lamination in the future. Videos will come once we get there :)

    Do you ever find fossils?

Yes! We find them all the time actually. Lots of leaves and shells. Maybe I'll film some when we build the next section.
