Fall means apple picking...right? Except I had never gone apple picking before. I was invited out with Ontario Apple Growers to meet the badass farmer behind Nature's Bounty Farms. Cathy has a PhD, owns and operates this HUGE farm and is continuously doing research to improve the growing process and protect the trees from various pests and diseases. For a field that's mostly dominated by men, Cathy is a total badass in my eyes :)
These are high-density orchards-meaning smaller trees that yield more fruit per acre. The trees at the beginning of the video are babies, they still have a couple years before they start yielding fruit like the ones you see later on in the video.

He supplies me with an infinite amount of apple. A friend of mine have an orchard just for fun and he doesn't make any money out of it, he just givre the apples, away. =P
I still haven't made it through Michael Pollen's book Botany of Desire, but I'm attempting it again. Do you know this book? Let me know, please, but basically I wanted to mention that he said that the only apple native to North America was the crab apple, and the rest were brought here. I'll let you know more later. Yeah! Apples originated from Asia :D I've never read that book, but I read an Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food :)
