Just graded an EIB/ESB EIB PT Test : 4 mile Run in 32 mins, 49 PU, 59 SU ESB PT Test : 2 mile Run in 18 mins, 30 HRP, 2:10 SDC ESB Candidates did the same tasks as EIB on the lanes except for Shotgun. Those were the differences I saw during my time as a grader.
EIB was pushed hard by my Battalion Commander(2/30 IN) in Germany in 1972. I was one of two officers to earn it, while 4 Enlisted in the Battalion also earned it. So, only 6 total in the battalion earned it.
EIB versus ESB? I can already hear people talking 'trash'. As it was in the 80s its as much now. If your seeking to be a 'lifer' getting your EIB looks good when you want to go for PreRanger or PreAirborne. You went down to Ft. 'Rich' and only the top so many guys would be qualified to be sent. Our first Battalion Commander didn't want ANYONE to go. but the next few were more 'understanding'. The 'tasks' have changed a bit but for the better. Remember, my world had compasses and Pay Phones if your 'Forward Observer' or the Platoon Leader got you lost. Thanks for this info; very interresting!~
The Army is smart enough to know that the Infantry should be held to a higher standard. In my opinion most infantryman have been supportive of ESB and I’m hoping that over time, the committee is able to close the gap of the PT test. ESB is still extremely competitive and has a comparatively low passing rate.
I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t even interested in the ESB until they said it’s going to be worth 60 promotion points now I’m fully interested in it
Go get it!
Just got my eib as a pfc greatest day ever

Are all soldiers eligible/allowed to attend for ESB or is it based on higher approval?
All that meet the prerequisites!
Im A proud Expert Infantry Badge earned in 1998. Ive been an evaluater up till 2012 when I retired
Here in Hawaii the no-goes do not restart at all. If you get 2 no-goes for the entirety of test week then you are no longer in the fight.

As part of the daily schedule would they have you do PT?
Nope!
I go to esb next month‼️
Hell yeah, man. Awesome stuff
Hope you’re doing well, brother!
Got my EIB back in 2018 out of 25ID. Right after that they sent me to jungle school. I was the lowest ranking in my platoon to earn it.
I can't wait
