My Frenchie, Wolfgang, just passed this year at nearly eleven healthy years. He finally succumbed to a gum tumor at the very end. Great video with a lot of information people new to French bulldogs should consider. I worked professionally with dogs for 25 years, I just adopted my second Frenchy (my first died of stomach cancer at 12 years old, which is most common). I am stopped at a one year old dog from a French bulldog rescue center. They gave him full medical treatment, including soft palate and nose nare surgery (very common in less then perfectly bred dogs). His adoption fee was $1200. But he’s young, sweet, and can breathe and swallow very well now that he’s had surgery. And I feel great that I gave such a wonderful homeless dog a forever home. My point is even if you get into adopting a rescue dog, French bulldogs are far from budget friendly in any way shape or form. And be careful because it’s a common scenario to pay up to $5000 (when you don’t know what to look for and how to research the breeder) for a Frenchie puppy, and then they’ll wind up still need $2500 worth of soft palate and/or nose nare surgery.
Thank you for comment Todd. I’m happy to hear you were able to rescue a Frenchie. You are absolutely correct! A rescue does not make this breed budget friendly. They can have their own set of issues aside from health problem they can also have behavioural issue. People are guided when it comes to prices by the breeders who sell them for dirt cheap. Anything good in life never cost cheap. Those breeders selling them at such low prices are selling them for that much because somewhere along the line corners have be cut and the care and service that’s offered is not there.
Wow! My dog is so different and I was thinking of getting another one! My Frenchie (Toby) surfs with me and Skateboards on long cruiser boards with me. You're lucky yours doesn't have much health issues. My 2 have food allergies. What made it worse is that they both have different allergies. Get an insurance. I would recommend that. My oldest one passed away from renal and GI failure due to IVDD, besides having hip dysplasia and was living rolling around with a wheelchair. He wouldn't have passed away sooner if he did have pet insurance. Get it. It's worth it. Now my 2 have them.
I'm retired and decided on getting a French Bulldog specifically because a wanted a dog who loves attention. I take him everywhere I go. He's the perfect companion for me. However only a blocks from my home someone had their Frenchie taken from them at gunpoint while out walking. These robbers know how expensive the breed is. So now I'm always cautious when I'm walking him.
What the F! Someone around is pulling a gun around on someone who has Frenchie's! That's scary. I have a long hair male blue Frenchie which usually cost more than 12k (shelter puppy Frenchie, lucky me. Lol) and a standard brindle female. I take mine everywhere too. They stick to me like glue.
I've owned 2 and loved both dearly. They are not a sturdy Lab or Golden and can have health issue due to the breed. They are also very pricey for. Puppy but they are amazing creatures and I can't imagine not having one in my life. I personally did not have pet insurance. I just save some money for emergencies.
Oh, and yes, I paid through the nose for my new baby Frenchie, and now, the breeder was so impressed with my care he asked if I would be willing to adopt an older girl who he does not have time for, and I said yes... Princess will have her Auntie Tokyo to play with which will be more equal to her energy. Most of my dogs are elder, only one of my Pitty's will play with her (Hina is soooooo gentle with her, she lays on her back to be at her level, hahahaha), so I know adopting Tokyo will be a nice addition to our home and clan.
Good information! People need to look into the breeders and blood line. Fortunately my 11 week old is a pure breed with pedigree papers with none of the mentioned health issues anywhere in the blood lines from my pups reputable breeder. Good information to not buy from any one less.
Something very important to consider; Basically there are french bulldogs and than there are FRENCH BULLDOGS. There is a subset of breeders who take the breed very seriously, in that they breed to protect the breed, this includes genetics/health/temperament and structure that meets the breed standard. You will never see a good breeder who breeds blues/lilacs/chocolates/merles etc. These true breeders also post the pedigree/testmating and bloodline of the dog online so you can see for yourself it's history. These breeders are rare in canada and the us, more prevalent in europe (italy/russia/ukraine/Hungary/france) where the bloodline is richer and not so crossbred.
This is very true. When I got Fuli I never got papers, or bloodline or anything of that sort but I knew the litter was different from what I saw here in Canada and I still do see a huge difference in the dogs here.
You’re absolutely correct. You get what you pay for. Paying for a good breeders puppy it’ll cost more on the front end, but way less in vet bills. Exotics are ridiculous.
@@sandiewise6066 In this world, u r more likely to **not** get what u pay for. Ive consistently found that supposed truth (of getting what u pay for) to, in fact, be the **exception** instead of the rule. This is an excellent example of how so many of these regurgitated gems of wisdom are actually the inversion of the declared 'reality.' ✌️
All breeds of dogs have different health issues, so u never get a guarantee, be prepared for unexpected vet bills or get insurance. I recently lost my 11 year old frenchie to a heart tumor. Otherwise he had been healthy his whole life, and I pretty much just brought him to the vet for his regular checkups. I know a few other people with frenchies who haven’t had problems either. But I was alway careful and aware of the problems that he could have in the heat or from over exercising, because mine was very active and always wanted to run around with my other dogs. The biggest difference between my Frenchie and my other dogs is that he would not know when he was getting overheated and to stop, so I had to stop him. I have to say of all the dogs I’ve had, my frenchie was the most lovable and most attached to me. I agree with him that this is not the dog for you if you don’t have the time to spend with it. I recently got another French bulldog puppy and I hope he is as healthy, he is certainly as lovable and even more attached to me.
I got a French bulldog and trust me you need to get it it’s soo cute clumsy and smart! ( you don’t need to buy if you don’t want to and I’m not trying to force )

I honestly think if you regret owning a frenchie or if you want to tell people not to buy 1, then your dog is a dud in the health department. My frenchie has no allergies, breathes well and is an absolute muscular tank! People need to stop breeding unhealthy frenchies and supporting poor breeding practices (stop buying unhealthy dogs)...I am so lucky to have a healthy dog, she's brindle and I've heard they are healthier🤷♀️

Let’s be honest, if you want a Velcro dog, French bull dog is the way to go. I’ve been very lucky with My Dobby no serious health problems and just the greatest dog. He’s the youngest/smallest in the house but is definitely king of the castle. He rules over a 80lb lab and a130 French mastiff they all get along great. Dobby tires them out. Great video
Just want to say (as a Frenchie owner), so much of what this guy listed might be typical for his dog, but it's not the case for all Frenchies. Mine is quite the opposite of many of the characteristics mentioned.

My dad bought my Frenchie for 50 dlls 😱 at a gas station , he is a trucker so he travels all the time he gets approached by drug addicts at the gas stations selling stuff for drug money. The guy who sold the puppy said it was an off brand pug that farted and snored like the devil. My dad offered 50 dlls and he said yeah 50 works and handed him the puppy. My dad thought he was a pug he doesn’t know a lot about dogs , he called me and told me he had bought me a dog that it was a black pug i asked for a picture and he said just wait for me to get there when he arrived a day later I ran out of the house to greet him and see my new pug … when I see a frenchie 😮 my dad told me the story of how he got him … and I couldn’t believe the luck he had that day. When I showed him the price he was like that mf didn’t know what he stole , I’m glad I saved him. We took him to the vet to know how old he was and if he had a chip so he could reunite with his owners … he was 2 months old and he didn’t have a chip . So I got to keep him forever ❤️ his name is papi and he is my everything! But he is really high maintenance he needs the very best of everything, from kibble to supplements, skincare , vet appointments, send him to the groomers every 20 days… etc ! He doesn’t respect personal space he is with me most of the time and when I leave he gets pretty destructive and naughty … if I had planned to buy a dog it would definitely wouldn’t be a frenchie #1 it’s not on my budget to spend 3k on a dog #2 they need a lot of attention and care … now that I have him I do everything because I love him madly 😆 but it’s truly like having a small baby ! He has a pet stroller and a pet car seat … slow feeding bowl 😆 it’s a furry child
I have two female spayed Frenchies. They are my kids Lily is 3 years old and Nala is 2 years old and thier brother is a 16 year old lab and short hair terrier that I adopted from a 92 year old woman that could not keep him. Lambeau was 2 years old when I adopted him. Yes the house can get crazy at times but I love it. We have been so lucky that we have never had any medical problems You make it sound like you just bought a BMW. Because they are the most expensive to service. There are so many other dogs that have very serious problems. I do agree on a few points you put out there but you seem to dramatic about owning one. I am sorry to disagree on certain things but I believe alot if Frenchie owners will agree.
Your right it’s not like owning a BMW... it’s like owning Rolls Royce 😂😂😂 I appreciate you stopping by and commenting. Not every dog is equal, you have been fortunate but all my points are just there to educate of potential problems and things to watch out for. Sorry if the delivery seemed to dramatic for you.
I do think a lot of people buy frenchies without much thought. I have two French bull dogs and I treat them like kids. I have someone always watching them and never leave them alone for more than 3 hours. And if I do, I’m paying someone to babysit or I do the puppy sitter thing.
You should not have bought a blue one they have many health issues like you're experiencing should've stick with standard colors. Exotic colors are for breeders to make money standard colors are for breeders to sell you a potentially healthy pup.
Who says raw food is the best you aren’t a veteran. Insurance is a joke in Canada they will raise the premium anytime. . Wait till the dog gets older double the price.
Idk bout Canada but lemonade is like half the cost of every other over priced company out there here in the states.. I pay 33 bucks for up to $100k coverage, 90% reimbursement, and $500 deductible
Honestly bro just watched your video and I have a totally different experience than you have. And I feel like alot of the things you do for your dog are unnecessary and excessive. And you said your dog has a lot of vet bills but your actions are contradicting, u waist a bunch of money to get them basically human food. But are still going to the vet because your dog is sick all the time. As long as you de worm your dog frequently you should be ok. I think you got a dog that is maybe inbred. My dog has never gotten sick nor does she have any health problems or breathing problems. She is in the best health. And gets a ton of exercise. I think u should have done more research in the kennel you chose to get your dog from. And I can tell from your dogs eyes he looks inbred. Cockeyed. I think everyone should own a French Bulldog, I think a lot of your stuff you pay for your dog is totally unnecessary and excessive. I do agree that they do need a-lot of attention. My dog is in great shape with 0 breathing problems. Pay attention to your breeder and how they are breeding. Make sure they get plenty of exercise and you will stay away from the vet I promise you.
😂😂😂have you even looked at any of my other videos before your made your comment off this one video? Or have you even looked at my Instagram? My dog is 5 years old and other then annual vaccines and one major surgery at 4 years of age he hasn’t had any health issues. I’d like you to elaborate on what you deem unnecessary or excessive… I’d like to know what’ve observed.
Frenchies are the best dogs I ever had. In my life I have had many different breads and frenchies are my favorite. They are fun, playful, loving, like to cuddle with the owners. The only thing that I would recommend is to never buy a frenchie in these weird colors, like gray with blue eyes for example, it's not a official color and most of them have lots of health issues more than usual. Frenchies comes in only 3 different colors so be aware of that.
Agree, stick the standard to get a more reliable pup. The Merles are the ugliest Frenchie in my opinion. Colour breeding is for money and that should be a red flag.
I have 2. One male blue long haired Frenchie and brindle female Frenchie. They eat raw food and dogfood with veggies. Because this guy's get skin allergies fairly easy from regular dog food. Just go to a butcher and grab gizzards, livers or left over meat. They'll be cheaper that way. Their supplements I just get the same ones I get for myself that isn't mixed in with something that doesn't go well for them. Do your research. Dog insurance is expensive. Unfortunately most of them don't do c section. But I would recommend getting one. Since these guys are prone to get hip dysplasia and IVDD.
Geez, if we pay through the nose for a beautiful Frenchie, you better be able to feed them raw wholesome fresh food which is a must! This is the thing, commercial so-called food, especially kibble, you will be going to the vet a lot from illness, and diseases and they will most likely die young. You want them to thrive, not just survive, and that latter is exactly what you would do feeding ANY animal commercial toxic so called food. Dr Judy Morgan is the best nutritionist holistic animal advocate you could ever follow for feeding and care.
@@Peter-Kramm still don't know why these dogs are worth more than a golden retriever or siberian honestly my friend breed bulldogs and other breeds like blue nose and etc and he said the c section & caring for the pups ( etc food , shots & play time ) should not bring the value to 4k to 250 k . ( i respect your Hustle & etc ) my cousin sell his bulldogs ( french , English or American ) for 800 to 1k and they are all healthy and what not . ( the breathing you hear when the dog is relaxing is not good but we all learn to live with it ) But each its own if you want to pay 4k - 5k for half a dog then go head it just seems very backwards and look like a bad investment. ( the only profit the owner can make back from that investment is making puppies and trying to sell them to people who are willing to buy for that price ) pay more for less of a dog seems astounding.
Well for starters all the breeds you just mentioned give natural birth. I don’t know if I understood the second part of th sentence about c-sections. Every breeder is going have difference expenses + their time + knowledge. So I don’t know what to tell ya, if your cousin is breeding and selling Frenchies and selling them for $1000 then good for him and the people buying his pups… Regardless if you agree with my videos or not, if you like the breed or not, you commenting still supports the channel and growth of it so thanks.
@@Peter-Kramm I support anybody who breeds dogs the right way and humanely from golden retriever to bulldogs. I just don't respect the prices & don't get me wrong I love bulldogs but we all know 4k to 250k is not reasonable unless that dog help with the rent or help pay the mortgage , come with a couple months of food ( raw ) , & come with insurance. I'm happy to help anyway in the growth of your channel my opinion should not effect your Hustle. Just stating a bulldog should never cost more than a golden retriever , pitbull , Rottweiler , or even a pomsky it just seems like people are capitalizing on the fact that alot of people want small dogs because the mindset of most think they will be easier to maintain & those prices are making it hard for people to obtain a dog because certain breeders turned owning one ( french ) as a trend like owning one will make you royalty . My friend breeds Frenchies but his prices is 800 - 1k & if money a little low maybe 2k because he actually like the breed and want the dog to be loved as much as he love them . (Great channel👍🏽BTW) ( I just find it interesting , I swear I mean no malice just want to understand the mindset )
you’re feeding your dog 90% meat when they are a herbivore .. it would be more beneficial to have a plant-based diet with one meat protein like bison or elk meat .. iron will raw is by far the best tho
They are expensive they need grain free food, they have allergies so I give mine half an antihistamine every day, but the insurance isn’t bad I use animal friends. Yes they need CONSTANT attention!!!! I think the blue ones are the worst for problems or so I’ve been told.
So pretty much because this guy did not do the research and jumped into getting a frenchie no one should get one?. Come on my dude, maybe all of this might be an issue for you but I've had Shar Peis and Frenchies and I've gotten them from reputable breeders and I've avoided a lot of the issues he speaks of.
We have lemonade for our Frenchie... Its only like 33 bucks a month... Up to $100k covered, 90% reimbursement and 500 deductible.. Lemonade was BYYYY FARRRR the cheapest one out there I tried them all

Lemonade was BYYYY FARRRR best covered and cheapest premiums out there I looked into all of them and no other company even came close to Lemonade quotes
Great points..... the only thing I’d say is as far as the food for the Frenchies’s is concern, I think if your not giving your dog raw the next best thing is dehydrated raw food. Keep up the great videos.

First of all, Füli is one adorable doggo and seems to be living the life! Second, I just wanted to point out that there are also frenchies out there that don't have any breathing problems. I myself own a 1.5 year old purebred frenchie and he never makes a sound when breathing, nor does he snore in any way! He can also be out in the warmer (with water to drink!) and colder months (with a winter coat of course). He also has a lot of endurance when we play or go for walks! What do you think could explain this big difference within the same breed?
Your dog maybe has a nose that's less squashed and possibly you live somewhere with mild or cooler weather? My dog does snore but she is perfect on walks, great endurance and hasn't required any surgeries to help with her breathing. My vet has seen so many unhealthy frenchies and she is in awe at my dog's fitness and breathing. What colour is your doggo? Mines brindle and apparently their lines tend to be a bit tougher, especially with allergies. My friends joke that my dog looks like a gym junkie. She's 6 now and still no major illness or surgeries required🤞
Thats why I don't like these videos, generalizing a breed, I've had so many different breeds of dogs throughout my life, and had only one dog that suffered from the breeds associated ailments, take good care of your dogs, dont get them from crappy breeders, check the parents out, feed them well, exercise and train them, and most likely you will super rarely have health concerns.
Ummm 🤔 how am mothers do we know that have c-sections? Is that cruelty towards women? What would be cruel is letting a dam give natural birth and risk the puppies getting stuck in the birth canal resulting possibly losing the dam and the puppies. If you want more knowledge on breeding and the process I do daily lives of my current litter on Instagram. ✌🏼
The puppies are too big for the dog to carry. Have you ever had a C- Section? I have. Why breed a dam to have puppies that big? How many times does the breeding animal in a puppy mill get bred with a high demand dog? I adopt from shelters and rescue animals. C section is not a simple procedure. It is major surgery. I have seen dogs, cats and horses born. A big litter hurts an animal. Stretches their bodies. They are violently hurting people to steal these dogs. With demand there is inbreeding and health problems. Then when the dog has health problems - off to the pound.
My Frenchie, Wolfgang, just passed this year at nearly eleven healthy years. He finally succumbed to a gum tumor at the very end.
Honestly I just came here to know if I should get a frenchie but I stayed because of the amazing work you put into your videos :)! Congrats!!
Get them.. lol
We are selling 7 of our puppies at half the price due to a capacity problem we’re currently facing.
Please contact us if you need a puppy,,,
@@stivemichel8021 interesting. Where are you from? I have 2. Looking for a cream or Coco Frenchie for my blue long haired.

Thank you for sharing this, good to know

In this world, u r more likely to **not** get what u pay for. Ive consistently found that supposed truth (of getting what u pay for) to, in fact, be the **exception** instead of the rule. This is an excellent example of how so many of these regurgitated gems of wisdom are actually the inversion of the declared 'reality.' ✌️
Never had that problem actually. Sorry that’s been your regurgitated truth. ✌🏼
I heard that this breathing problem can be fixed with the operation on very young age am I wrong?
Some great tips! Intro made me laugh, used treadmills in Canada are starting to outprice Frenchies right now! We're looking for one too.
Mine cost about just as much as a frenchie, but I see as it as an investment into your health.

based on the information you provided in your video my fringe bull die is the exception to your rules 👌🏼👍🏼
Love your page brotha. Keep pushing the vids
I got a French bulldog and trust me you need to get it it’s soo cute clumsy and smart! ( you don’t need to buy if you don’t want to and I’m not trying to force )
FOMO!!! 🤣. Mine is most def the King of FOMO...AND I’m sitting right there! He never wants to nap just in case he misses anythinggggg! Great video again Peter K.! Always such a joy to watch!
@@hipsterhildog My vet has said that if all the frenchies she met were like my dog, she'd get 1. Maybe when she gets older she'll have some issues with breathing but I'm so greatful that she needs no surgery relating to her breathing right now. My vet has told me that I'm very lucky and that I should enjoy my dog because it's unlikely that I'll ever get a frenchie like her again. It's sad that what I'm experiencing is rare... what you described is what my vet has experienced and feels too.

They are GMO dogs not supposed to be here
Your can't swim and can't stand summer heat
Yes mine too! Mine surfs with me and Skateboards on long cruiser boards with me. He’s 4 years old and so far never has had health problems… the normal tooting and belching Lol which is hilarious. This video would make me not want to buy a Frenchie. Of all the dogs I’ve owned in my life, the frenchie has been the lowest maintenance dog, loving, & funniest addition to our family & awesome badass dog!
@@meowmeow5662 No dogs like summer heat. I never walk ANY of my dogs regardless of breed when it is too hot.
I have a French bulldog and she is the best one in the world
Well done! And very on point.
The quote of I'm sorry I have breathing problems is so cruel and so funny at the same time🙈
I have two female spayed Frenchies.
Your right it’s not like owning a BMW... it’s like owning Rolls Royce 😂😂😂
I appreciate you stopping by and commenting.
Very good video
Great tips.. Totally agree... 😍
Absolutely agree. Stick to standard colors.
@@Shawn-ky2tw i agree Merles are so dang ugly and those eyes. Yikes. breeders are ruining them.
In spite of everything they are a loveable and wonderful breed, love mine.
Todays trendy dog, tomorrow’s shelter dog.
Sorry Karen you feel that way.
Nah I'm getting one they are so cute playful and other stuff
Spending over 1k for half a dog with breathing problems sound like a bad investment
And you think other breeds don’t have their own set of issues? Not every dog is affected by breathing
( the breathing you hear when the dog is relaxing is not good but we all learn to live with it )
But each its own if you want to pay 4k - 5k for half a dog then go head it just seems very backwards and look like a bad investment.
So I don’t know what to tell ya, if your cousin is breeding and selling Frenchies and selling them for $1000 then good for him and the people buying his pups…
Regardless if you agree with my videos or not, if you like the breed or not, you commenting still supports the channel and growth of it so thanks.
(Great channel👍🏽BTW)
( I just find it interesting , I swear I mean no malice just want to understand the mindset )

you’re feeding your dog 90% meat when they are a herbivore .. it would be more beneficial to have a plant-based diet with one meat protein like bison or elk meat .. iron will raw is by far the best tho
I disagree with vet bills owning one do not keep you at the vit if so why would people own these dogs not just because the like haning out at the vit
They are expensive they need grain free food, they have allergies so I give mine half an antihistamine every day, but the insurance isn’t bad I use animal friends. Yes they need CONSTANT attention!!!! I think the blue ones are the worst for problems or so I’ve been told.
They do not all need grain free food lol
Grain free food had actually been linked to cardiac problems.

Don't get a French bulldog says the man who's got one
I don’t have just one... I have a few pouncing around
Definitely not a guard dog, they will probably just lick and kiss the bad guys to death.
Any dog is an investment. Man chicken breast and regular dog food. Stop giving him those bs supplements and he will be fine.
but you have one
We don’t get to shower 🚿 with you? Lol 🤪
Ha ha ha, this is a PG channel. Maybe when I hit 1 million subs… kidding
I feel so0o0o0o sorry for their breathing problem!
Basically if you buy from an illegitimate breeder and are too lazy and cheap to take care of a living thing they’re bad pets??
The dog has to be born by C- Section. No thanks, but that seems cruel to me. How many times will a poor dog’s body get torn open?
