I Rode The Livewire Until It Stopped For Accurate Range (Part 1)

- This turned into a pretty much highway only test which does not reflect the tested estimated range stated on HD's website. Part 2 will be all city riding which should better reflect a number most accurate to the estimated range of the 2020 Livewire. Stay tuned.
Things to consider are many Harley's and a lot of other bikes are bar hoppers or used on short rides where range will not be a problem. Also this bike is fun AF! I smile so much on this thing. The throttle is perfect, described as linear. You can go so slow to normal to really quick. Yes electric bikes do suffer on the freeway But they are excellent in the city and are pretty good with a decent mix of the two. when I got mine the estimated mileage decreased the more I rode on the freeway but obviously increased in the city. I think straight freeway at 70 mph will only get 70 miles but I can ride all day in the city areas and get tired before the battery ever does.
I don't think that is that bad. Basically about 75 miles at 70mph. While that is not exact a person could possibly run charger to charger in the near future. Also, this bike is new and these things will only get better. Just imagine an Ultra that can make about 125 miles at 70mph. You would be able to run across the country on I-40 just like these guys that are on YT testing EVs. I rarely run more than 100-125 miles in my car before I stop to take a short break. It looks like a great start.
$30,000 for a bike that won’t go 100 miles ? I think I’m gonna pass.....
This was awesome Gunnar!!!! Thank you for sharing
We met today 😂🤷🏼♂️
I love how professional this video is! I’m looking forward to working with you guys with my Livewire to Sturgis from Florida!
How professional? Really ?
Sole purpose was to see how many miles before it dies, then forgets to start odometer for a few miles.
Then camera dies at an important phase of the test.
Funny, and possibly ever so slightly informative, yes. Professional, no...
The range reading changes based on what type of riding you were doing the last few minutes. I.e. It's constantly re-calculating
So as long as you're really light make sure to ride it at a quarter of its potential don't do any highway miles make sure the ambient temperature is perfect you could get another five miles out of it. Wow Harley really outdid themselves
I think Harley has a little more tweeking to do.
Had mine for a few months now. I made a custom mode for 0 percent regen power and throttle and it extends the range a huge amount. If you're in sport mode and hauling ass it won't last 70 miles.
Regardless of all the negative comments from old Harley owners like myself; my kids will be riding electric motorcycles. Hopefully, they will let the "old man" take it out for a rip ever now and then.
Show them those 50cc/125cc equivalent vintage-looking ones from Super Soco, basically what a Triumph would look like if they went electric
I have been interested for several years !!
But $30,000 for a bike that can go 80 miles !! Thanks but no Thanks !!
Been looking into a LIVEWIRE , but after seeing so many for sale with VERY FEW miles on them and then seeing this video , TELLS ME ALL I NEED TO KNOW.... NOT FOR ME. 😳
76 miles for 30,000 dollar bike. 👎
Thanks. Nice experiment. ‘Bout what I expected. I’ve ridden a couple of EVs. Mostly Lectra.
That is similar to my Sporty 48 with its 2.1 gallon peanut tank before I have to fill up. However, charging this conveniently is an obvious challenge.
Eco Mode?
4 weeks till I get mine, I have another hd for long dist.
How is your Harley LiveWire so far?
I get so much better efficiency than that... same bike.
Let's notice that the Go Pro died before the bike.
So, I couldn't make it from San Diego to Los Angeles .I will keep riding the gas powered bike.
Only in Florida would there be a whole Island dedicated to Mullets
It has far less range on interstate speeds 😎😎
I call it fair test . Only ones no that got one in Georgia is Fury Falcon .
That mileage compares to my ZeroSR 14.3kw on mountain riding.
this shit costs more than vw’s new electro car id3...wtf!
Most uncomfortable thing I have ever sat on....
What brand of toilet do you have? I’m impressed.
@@coloradocruzer go buy one if your so impressed with it. Sit on it and ask yourself if you could do it for a 100 miles. Has nothing to do where I take a shit
Handsome looking bike but useless for intercity which is what I would use it for.
My fiend electric bike gives half mileage on highway
Yep... leaves you along side the road like the rest of the Harleys !! HD stands for Huge Disappointment !!!
yeah, not exactly a great test equal to "statement" vid. Useful info, but still, needs better more accurate explanation.
I've put over 1600 miles on mine since Nov and it's very clear and written that the batteries are not designed for "straight out" long distance at high speeds... excluding the wait time of 1hr at fast charge stops.
The 146 the rider was expecting was the inaccurate "expected" assumption part for riding on the freeway, since the 146 marketed numbers are for city, 95 for combined and 70 for 70 mph.
So, for the 76 miles achieved, that is basically accurate.
I am personally more of a back road rider (not "commuter" like so many like to claim this bike is), who enjoys the occasional rip of speed on mine but don't take the freeways as much *anymore*... having come from over 37 years of riding numerous bikes, still have two ICE rides and LOVE the change of pace... from the drab, (typically over run freeway) to exploring the back roads to get to my destination.
I've been pushing this to around 130-180 constant with the combined "occasional" quick and backroad rides. Sure, it takes me twice as long to get to my destination, but, it's the ride and new experiences that I enjoy, not the "got to get there NOW" ones.
I've been posting all my details, charging info, distance experiences, etc. at the HarleyLiveWire subreddit.
I'm curious what will come of the second video/test.
If theyd be charging while theyvtslked. Made itv
Horrible bike
