OJ is still makin their own wheels to this day man. They're actually very good for beginner to intermediate riders and they are relatively cheap compared to other companies.
I just turned 51 last week and started skateboarding, first time long boarding, again after about 25-30 year break. Anyway, I am seeing these Orangatang commercial for the first time, but these wheels remind me of the OJ wheels I had back in the early 1980's. Makes me wonder if they are the same wheels? Anyone here old enough to remember the OJ wheels?
Not sure what you mean, exactly. It was like a mini-speedcheck to make sure my feet were positioned right and everything for the big shutdown standy. It was intentional, and that's why I didn't get bucked, because I was expecting it, and trying to do that. In retrospect, I can see how it might look sketchy to some
wait wait wait.. i have two sets of these and havent cored them yet but I heard that o'tang used the same spoked core as in the baluts, however, looking at how far you cored them down to it doesnt look like the same core... whats the deal?
also dont worry ive flat spotted a set of butter balls about 60mm and a set about 55mm it makes me mad too but if you have acess to a lathe or a drill press you can possibly round out your wheels.
thanks a lot, im new and trying to learn sliding and i just learned today about sliding wheels. ill get rid of my sector 9 soy based biothane as soon as possible and get those you recommanded
Thanks for this. I will buy these wheels next time because they seems really long lasting. 4 weeks for you must mean 1 year for me because I only do small slides and mostly ride straight and and carving.
***** yeah I agree. otang wheels are amngst the best for sure. Otherwise so many longboard manufacturer wouldn't trusted them. I got otang fat free 86a, otang kilmer 83a, otang 4 president 83a and all have been very good. My friend has otang stimulus 80a and yeah they have been good. They are quality for sure. But very expensive. I wouldn't buy them if I can find something else that work but otang for cruising is top notch.
not sure this is a great wheel to slide. got it in 86A and it does not go slide that easily. would you recommend butterballs sector 9 or powerballs abec instead?
Great wheels, been riding them since early feb, and just about to core them, they last a long time, seing as how i am 280lbs, the smaller, the more predictable, a bit icy at first, but no regrets.
Shred.Lin, I can measure some other time but if my memory serves me, its about 45mm. It's just within that white ring on the graphic of the wheel. Dierre pernell, Check out "Metalbee Artifacts" on facebook, he makes all sorts of cool skateboard accessories and he crafted those noseguards. High quality stuff
butterballs and flashbacks. but whatever you already have are just fine :P the reason for bi=utterballs and flashbacks is that they are the cheapest high quality wheels you can get. you will ruin several sets by flatspotting pretty early in the life of the wheel, and if you are going to waste a set, it might as well be a cheap one
I beg to differ, they may be unpredictable and icy to some, but they definitely become even more controllable as they get smaller. They are a solid wheel, give them a fair shot and you won't be disappointed.
Don't buy tangs get some butter balls or abec 11. Don't hop on the band wagon these wheels are crap they are very loud and they slide terribly. Don't buy them.
the excitement in his voice...
This is one of the best reviews I have ever seen for a wheel.
this is how reviews should be like, thanks!
i love reviews that actually say negatives about the product.
you dont sound real "stoked"
Will Weaver how do you slide with such a sharp lip
this should be the only channel to do longboard reviews that was awesome!
this is one of the best longboard based review video i've seen
How do they get concave or cone shape when the wheels are always parallel to one another on the solid axles?
Every review should be like this!
OJ is still makin their own wheels to this day man. They're actually very good for beginner to intermediate riders and they are relatively cheap compared to other companies.
Where was this filmed? Great review BTW.

Love outrigger! What area is the windy black hill in?
Hi Nolan, this review was filmed in Northern California, in a few different cities. Thanks for the good words.

I have the 86a and they slide amazing
awesome stoned review man, keep up the good work!
where do you get those things to cover your nose and tail?
also check that your axel nuts arent on too tight sometimes just the slightestplay is ok to make sure you wont get a binded bearing or slow wheels
Great review Nick!

So you change (or at least you used to change) your wheels every month?
wait wait wait.. i have two sets of these and havent cored them yet but I heard that o'tang used the same spoked core as in the baluts, however, looking at how far you cored them down to it doesnt look like the same core... whats the deal?
What are a good pair of slide wheels for a beginner
also dont worry ive flat spotted a set of butter balls about 60mm and a set about 55mm it makes me mad too but if you have acess to a lathe or a drill press you can possibly round out your wheels.
When you do that slide at 1:48 how do you not get thrown off?
Are those Apex 37 Nose Guards?
Do these slide like broken in, in-heats or more slidey
where did you get the music from 1:35
Do you recomend these or stims for slideing?
Any tips on how to avoid flatspot? Flatspotted 2 sets of Butterballs :(
Now the real question.... These or butterballs? Im trying to learn how to slide so which ever one is better for beginners.
Neither, get yourself some 78 a boss hawgs they slide like a dream
yea i got butterballs as a beginner and they were very grippy, never cored them and i skated them for like 8 months for
thanks a lot, im new and trying to learn sliding and i just learned today about sliding wheels. ill get rid of my sector 9 soy based biothane as soon as possible and get those you recommanded
hey whats that song ?
please answer this question: are the wheels god for the dervish sama longboard ??
Thanks for this. I will buy these wheels next time because they seems really long lasting. 4 weeks for you must mean 1 year for me because I only do small slides and mostly ride straight and and carving.
Noooooo don't buy orangatang wheels! (buy anything else)
***** why?
they are really rough, they don't wear down well, and they oval easily.
***** yeah I agree. otang wheels are amngst the best for sure. Otherwise so many longboard manufacturer wouldn't trusted them. if you want good wheels go with cloudrides, the new hawgs, or anything by abec 11
You sound depressed
Do these last long?
thanks, that was a really, really well done review. i hope to see more like this.
not sure this is a great wheel to slide. got it in 86A and it does not go slide that easily. would you recommend butterballs sector 9 or powerballs abec instead?
how large is the diameter of the core?
this is actually a really good review
That was such a good reveiw, do more reveiws!
where are all these nice locations, please adore me some address
Right? Looks like some beautiful spots
what board?
Yes the Orangatang Moronga should be a great wheel on that board.
No toesides?
Keep your wheels rolling. Don't hold the board at a 90 degree angle for very long. Keep the slides fluid.
While the majority of the clips may be of heelsides, there were definitely a few of toesides in there.
More reviews like this!!!
Thanks man, I'll work on that!
rip audio
you need bearing spacers and speed rings and crank the bolts all the way down
Great wheels, been riding them since early feb, and just about to core them, they last a long time, seing as how i am 280lbs, the smaller, the more predictable, a bit icy at first, but no regrets.
Long lasting?
Max Robinson you know it!
hell ya, in depth review
Shred.Lin, I can measure some other time but if my memory serves me, its about 45mm. It's just within that white ring on the graphic of the wheel.
Dierre pernell, Check out "Metalbee Artifacts" on facebook, he makes all sorts of cool skateboard accessories and he crafted those noseguards. High quality stuff
Right on dude!
good reiview
You ride for stoked?!?!? How am I not sponsored
It is the same core!
monotone.
if you keep your powerslides under 90 degrees the wheel will keep spinning and wont flatspot ;)
🤙🏼👌🏼🤙🏼

Don't buy tangs get some butter balls or abec 11. Don't hop on the band wagon these wheels are crap they are very loud and they slide terribly. Don't buy them.
You could be a bit more enthuiastic next time
If talk more I'll fall asleep
Well I saw alot with those wheels and they slide like champs even with nearly no speed. So I guess its all about practice.
