    I think dvd still looks fine for most stuff. I don't really care about bluray unless it's a big action movie or something where the visuals are the most impressive thing about the movie (like "avatar" or "life of pi"). I grew up with VHS on an 18" TV, and didn't even have cable, so I'm not picky.

    • @jbrian53
      @jbrian53 8 месяцев назад

      I've said the same thing for a long time, and still generally agree. If it's a good movie then it's a good movie. I enjoyed the heck out of movies on VHS when I didn't know any better. Alas, the more HD content I see on a regular basis, the more jarring it gets to see how poorly DVD compares. One minute I'm watching some youtuber's crystal clear 4k video recorded on their phone and the next minute I'm wondering how I never noticed just how soft and low-res Fargo is on DVD.

    Dogma is definitely an underrated gem.
    My favorites that I struggled to find over the years:
    -BASEketball, from the South Park guys, from the early days. Too funny if you like South Park.
    - Fanboys from 2009 is really hard to find, even as a torrent. It's about a group of friends who want to break into the Skywalker Ranch to steal the first cut of Episode 1 before their friend dies of a terminal illness. Hilarious with the occasional gut punch.
    - Dark City, a sci-fi noir with Kiefer Sutherland. Super weird but a great movie.
    - Old School with Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn and that lot. Hard to find in Europe.
    - The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Probably too weird, yet it is amazing. You'll be on the edge of your seat with antici......................................................pation.

    @anthonymerchant2597 9 месяцев назад +5

    Videos like this make me really happy that I have owned my copies of Dogma and Freaked on DVD's for decades. I find it strange when I see people on the internet talking about physical media being dead when there's literally millions of movie collectors that have been collecting these films longer than social media has existed. I have recently picked up several Blu-ray disks of some of my favorite films as a kid of the 80's. There will always be people willing to spend their money on films they want to watch as long as there are films still being put on physical media and people will want to re-watch them. This is the biggest problem with films these days, most films aren't worth watching more than once and are dated as soon as they are released. The true sign of a film that will remain timeless is how people will want to re-watch a film after the initial hype of their release has died down. It's because of physical media that many films have become cult classics years or even decades after their theatrical release. Even a film that appears to be successful can age poorly and will eventually be forgotten in time.

I can see why Belushi's familly and Aykroyd were unhappy with it, but at the same time, I feel bad for Chiklis ; even though he eventually managed to put the film behind him, he found it difficult to get work for some time after its release.
