The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by Peter A. Clayton amzn.to/3ljtjS4
By ancient standards, this tomb was so large and lavishly decorated that it quickly made it onto ancient writer’s lists of the seven sights to be seen in their known world, and it’s because of Maussollos’ tomb’s popularity that by the time the Romans showed up to the party, the word Mausoleum had become the go-to word for any large tomb.
It’s possible that Maussollos wanted his mausoleum to symbolise a fusion of all the surrounding civilisations and cultures, maybe even in the hopes of establishing a Carian empire with Halicarnassus at its centre. While that didn’t happen, he did succeed in creating one of the greatest-known tombs of the ancient world, and one of the longest-surviving wonders of the ancient world.

As an old history nut, I say very good. You gave your audience details, made it fun and interesting, and avoided the dreaded snooze fests that too many of these archeological/historical presentations become. Well done. We need more young women like you in the fields of archeology and history.

Maybe the tomb needed to be so big, to be able to fit his long name on it.
Like that’s why Arnie had to bodybuild, so he could wear a t-shirt with his name on.

I have always loved history, ever
since I was a child. And when it comes to mausoleums, my mind boggles with wonders and mysteries, and of course, the possibility of treasures. But the first thing I think of when I hear the word, mausoleum, is Christopher Lee as the assassin, Francisco Scaramanga in The Man With The Golden Gun. In the film, Lee delivers one of my all time favourite lines in cinema. Scaramanga is hired by a powerful gangster, who has his own, very large and impressive mausoleum, in the grounds of his sprawling estate. After receiving a telling off from the gangster, Scaramanga dispatches him and takes over. Walking outside, he casually remarks, "He always did like that mausoleum. Put him in it."

(oh, and no one in US can understand the french revolutionary metric stuff. pls use the imperial measurements, like feet and inches --as u use for ur own height in the vid)

You're asking for a love tomb? Is this...some kind of off-hand proposal? Because THAT just won't do. You should be down on one knee...flowers would be a nice touch. Would not object to a ring. = ) Couldn't get to this until now because...stuff. BUT it was indeed incentive to get beyond stuff so I could indeed bask in the WONDER (see what I did there = ) of watching it. Entertainingly educational as ALWAYS! Speaking of entertainingly educational...how is the book coming? Drops of blood forming on your forehead yet?

First rule of book-writing: don't talk about how painstakingly slow the book writing is going whilst working a full time job and also trying to keep an engaged audience who one relies on buying the book haha. The nights are riddled with anxiety and planning and the days are riddled with staring at a screen trying to be productive but failing

@@DigItWithRaven I remember your second masters...and all of the tremendous hardship you faced...some of it diabolical. It was like me with the wolves. You survived that. Not only survived, but thrived. Most things after that should be, by definition...easier. = ) As a fellow writer who cares, you know I know whereof I speak when I say MINDSET is a HUGE part of the battle. Also, write in your head. Then jot down the trigger words and sentences for the ideas and inspirations. Even during your workday. And gather a cheering section to help keep you motivated. EVEN marathoners can have cheering section support through the tough times. AND in the "in the zone times". = )

0:11 "these enormous graves are one last hurray to show off just how important that person was or how important that person *thought* they were" - do you doubt the efficacy of the latter? Would any person from the ancient world be remembered at all if they had not somehow built things that lasted? Would you have remembered Maussollos if he had not have had such a great tomb? So extending this bit of insight from the past we can understand why leaders today try massive projects: to be remembered, while almost all of us will be forgotten in a century, and certainly after a millennium.

I just wanna take Raven on a date and argue about feminism and patriarchy and we leave each other all heated and mad.We later recognize each other. She's on vacation, I'm on an adventure where I'm looking for treasure. She begins criticizing me for not seeing the human story and significance of the artifacts and I say, "I see it." as I rack my shotgun and head into some ruins. She follows me in to stop my shenanigans where I show her I can sight read hieroglyphs, (cause I actually can) though I have no degree like her. We find our way into some hidden antichamber where I find a golden bracelet that reads. Isis, perfect and beautiful, beloved of Osiris and I get to see her eyes light up as she recognizes the artifact as something historical and of extreme human significance and how this changes EVERYTHING! I make a comment about melting it down just to harass her. (It sells much better unspoiled) She snatches it and tells me I'm a goon. (I am) .......Suddenly the structure begins to collapse and sand is coming in. The walls and ceiling start to give way and we have to run. We're dodging falling rubble and a wall gives way making a hole showing daylight. I grab her by the hand and charge through the wall and we both roll down a hill one over the other. When the dust settles we're both coughing from dust and having the wind knocked out of us. Then we see 3 figures silhouetted by the sun. We realize we have guns pointed at us and a voice breaks the silence, "This artifact is now the property of the British Museum." An old hand picks up the bracelet. Our eyes focus on the voice as the dust starts to clear. I say, "Irving Finkel, you slippery son of a bitch! What are you doing here? Egypt isn't even your speciality!" He responds, "As you know Mr. Howard, all artifacts of import eventually find their way to the British Museum. Thank you once again for doing all the heavy lifting. Farewell and good day." Irving and his goons make way to a nearby convoy and drive off east towards Saqqara. Raven and I look at each other and say together, "I have to get that back!" Then we look at each other. I steal a kiss. She pushes me off after about 8 seconds and says, "You're just like them! A goon!" I'm like, "Hey! I was gonna sell it to Egypt!" "Quick, I have a landcruiser over there. Lets go!" Then we're off to chase down Irving Finkel and the Golden Bracelet of Isis.
