- LAUDA Trip Report flying from Brussels Charleroi to Vienna onboard one of the LAUDA A320, the RYANAIR subsidiary, on a very cold and snowy winter afternoon.
An amazing flight. It was incredible. That's how I can describe this flight. Since the very beginning with the planespotting under the snow at Charleroi airport terrace, it was an amazing experience. Seeing all the planes so covered with snow was something that I hadn't seen other than in pictures before.
The takeoff was amazing. Full power and then, for around 1 minute, a level-off that reduced a lot the thrust on the engines. After that, when crossing the thin cloud layer, the full climb thrust came back to make one of the best scenes that I think we have on the channel: that view flying so close to the clouds with the shadow running away from us was more than brilliant. I would like to know your opinion about it. May that one be the best or be among the best scenes on the channel? :)
The approach into Vienna was also over a snowy landscape. I wish I could have recorded more flights during this winter with these snowy conditions because they are spectacular.

En “El Prat” había una terraza que, sin tarjeta de embarque, se podía entrar al bar y ver los aviones. De niños pedíamos siempre ver uno más. Que lástima cuando ya no operen esos 4 motores. Otra lástima son los aviones en tierra. Mi hija estuvo 4 meses Erasmus en Viena. Compañeros de piso son auxiliares de cabina en Lauda y llevan mucho tiempo parados. Maravillosa la imagen de la sombra del avión sobre las nubes. Precioso vídeo. Gracias por compartirlo y saludos
Me han hablado alguna vez de esa terraza... pero al igual que la que había en el aeropuerto de Madrid, es historia... Una pena que las únicas terrazas que haya sean en Gran Canaria, Lanzarote y Almería (quizás haya alguna más, pero no la he visto).
Cada vez que pienso en la cantidad de universitarios que han tenido que pasar uno de los mejores años de su vida (el de Erasmus) durante la pandemia con clases a distancia y demás... es desalentador... en fin, que te voy a contar que no te haya contado ella ya...

Great trip and love the Lauda Europe airline a lot. Better then Ryanair, I prefer A320 above the 737-800 from RYR. Hope they will grow fast when COVID is more less. And of course, great video!

As a spotter I like the sound. That's when you know, really appreciate, how much power it takes to make such a huge aircraft airborne.

I like the video, and what I like the most is that most of the captured aircraft had heavy maintenance checks in my company, Lauda's 9H-LOT (The one you travelled in I just worked on it), Ryan Air's EI-EBN (Worked on this one as well), Air Beluim's OO-ABA :)

Y qué decir de ese despegue y ascenso... creo que si yo hubiese estado ahí y en pleno ascenso dejo de oír los motores, me hubiese c a g a d o 🤣.
Hubiese pensado que ha ocurrido algo.
Y luego es impresionante cómo aceleran al maximo.
Alguna razón de esa maniobra??

Seguramente, por algún otro tráfico, la instrucción fue mantener una altitud inicial baja y, en cuanto se pasó al otro avión (que pasaría por encima) se dio autorización a seguir con el ascenso.
Para volar a baja altitud a la baja velocidad que llevábamos, los motores al 50-60% dan de sobra, de ahí esa bajada repentina del sonido.

La pregunta es buena, pero partes de una premisa incorrecta: están perfectamente mantenidos. De hecho, he leído que a todos los aviones le hacen un vuelo semanal para mantenerlos en perfecto estado.

Hi Lucas. Great review. Loved the shot where you got the shadow of the plane during thrust. But amazing views both during take off and landing especially so with the snow cover. Is it my imagination or do you travel a lot through Vienna. I'm hoping to travel there on my first flight when it's safe to do so...again though great review..cheers, g..

Strict. All passengers were checked for tests/entry forms...
I guess when the restrictions will be a little eased and more pax will arrive to the airport, the measures won't be so strict. But at that moment they were. Which is the correct, in my opinion.

Nice trip on a snowy day. Q: is Lauda working for Ryanair or partly owned by Ryanair.
When you showed the apron in Charleroi, I noticed how near that church and houses were to the runway. It must be an old airport. Nowadays that would not be possible.

If the European Snowstorm was bad enough, try the American Blizzard of 2021, in Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, or the George Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas, or the New York John F. Kennedy/LaGuardia International Airports!

@@OnBoardHD If, by chance you arrive at the Boston Logan International Airport, many Bostonians will tell you how much Snow gets dumped there... And we're not talking about inches, but how many _feet_ of snow the whole City of Boston gets dumped with. Sometimes, up to 1 Yard of Snow dumps on Boston!
So Lauda is actually Ryanair but they keep the name and livery and use 320s?
LAUDA was adquired by the Ryanair Group 2 years ago or so. At the moment they operate under the Ryanair code, but with LAUDA A320 planes.
I've read that there are some plans to convert LAUDA into a B737 operator... but who knows...

I thought Laudamotion ceased operations
LAUDA was extermely close to cease operations... in the last moment there was an agreement between LAUDA and the Austrian Government, which saved the airline from closing.
