Even Kobe's numbers were evaluated (both of them separately) to see if they met the standards. DFish is not retired in LA. Only Kobe, Shaq, and Pau are from the more recent dynasties.
"His resume is crazy." No rings. No MVPs. Never made it to the Finals. I saw someone leave a comment about Gary Payton. Top 75 all time, made 3 Finals, and won a ring. He has a better resume than Melo. I'll never understand the Melo praise. He was selfish. He played no defense. He was all about himself. Him forcing his way to the Knicks proved that cause he could've waited 3 months and signed there but instead he gutted the team with the trade.
Every Player in the NBA's Top 10 All-time Points Scored has their Jersey Retired🔥 Nuggets wrong for giving Jokic Carmelo Anthony's Jersey. Folks forget Jokic wore #1 in Summer League 💯
Getting your jersey retired in a team you have to been to a conference finals AT LEAST twice, or gotten your team to the finals at least once, and then ofc on top of your own individual stuff. Melo had the all the individual scoring accolades you could have but hes was getting knocked out in the first round almost every year of his career except maybe 2.
He’s not trippen at all on Melo. Why would either of the franchises Melo played at an all-star level for retire his jersey. He has zero finals appearances and left both places with a bad taste upon exiting.
@isaakduarte9836 The Wizards are a bum franchise. Arenas had his downs and it didn’t end well in Washington but he’s still a top 5 Wizards all time. Melo could've done a farewell tour with Portland or LAL but chose not too. I don't think he believed it would end like this. Maybe he comes back in as an end of bench guy if some contending team needs to fill a roster spot. Idk if he'd even want that but it's possible.
He can’t get 15 retired in Denver because Jokic and honestly as a Knicks fan I don’t think he should get his #7 retired in New York ….outside the name it was a disappointing few seasons besides 1
Disappointing but not cause him. There have been few to no circumstances where he hasn’t came through for his team. Only thing I blame him for is being stingy with money so the teams can’t surround him with talent
The Derek Fisher slander is wrong. Jennings is tripping. Fisher was KEY to them winning, right after Kobe and Shaq. He was KEY to every chip. He played amazingly. Great defense. Great point guard. Clutch shots.
@Michael Martin You must be a teenager. Derek Fisher..even Kobe said was KEY. Stop it. Not Scheming for a player does not mean they are not key. He was the STARTING point guard for every game of every playoff Kobe was in. He was the FLOOR general. His decision making and defense were exceptional, and his shot-making. Clearly, you were eight years old when Kobe was winning. Stop it. You sound ridiculous.
Nuggets shouldn't retire Melos number I agree with Gil, Jersey Retirements are an appreciation from THE TEAM. A thank you for what you did in their organization. Melo was a good player for multiple teams where as Lebron was a generational player for every team. And wom a championship AND accomplished something incredible for each team. Heat -Back to Back trio, Cavs 3-1 comeback Lakers- Kobe's death ring, top leading scorer ever.
Yeah, at this current point it's fair to lightly question James jersey retirement with the Lakers, only because they have so much history. But he's a top player of all time even during his older age with the Lakers and they did win a chip, I don't see James not getting his jersey retired and a statue outside the arena. In Miami and Cleveland's case there's no doubt, Gilbert was focused on points, because that's all Gil ever thinks about is points, Gilbert didn't play defense or pass the ball after all. In Miami he was the best version of himself ever, 4 finals appearances, two back to back chips, finals MVPS, regular season MVPS, should have won defensive player of the year. Although in 2015 I feel like that was a peak year where he was still just as athletic, but also had reached mastery of the game, just a shame in those finals literally everybody on the Cavs was injured. Cavaliers are self explanatory, his many years there and the body of work he put in, plus he's from the area and most importantly brought them their first and only championship.

Why are they acting like the league blackballed him. He’s not good enough for the league right now. Even if he is better than some of the younger guys, those guys at least represent potential. His time came and went. It’s not “unfortunate” that he has to prove himself because he hasn’t proven he’s worth taking minutes from other guys. The best situation possible is one like Kevin Love has with the heat and even then, Kevin Love is a better facilitator. Right now he’s just a spot up shooter that’ll give up 20 points on D for every 10 he gives you. He’s an all-time great but it’s just over. He could have had his farewell tour if he didn’t wait this long. It should have been with the Blazers or Lakers.
For real all these channels should be appreciating his greatness and remembering sone of his amazing performances and stuff but I'm not seeing much on it. F the media, they literally ruined his reputation, one of the greatest basketball players ever.
He should NOT get his jersey in LA based on his current resume. They may give it to him if he retires a Laker for sentiment but if he goes with Bronny somewhere else? NAH
Reggie Miller was all time 3 point leader after his retirement for 5 years until Ray Allen broken it. During that time, I personally think the farewell tour was arguable.
Brandon is using the term journeyman incorrectly. When you're one of the best players in the league and you force trades or sign with other teams as a free agent you're not a journeyman. A journeyman is Jeff Green. He contributes but he HAS to bounce from team to team because he can't be a franchise cornerstone.
The pau argument is where Gil lost me. He made it seem like pau played forever with the lakers and then when they showed him bron has more points and has one less chip then him Gil kept on it. Here is some truth from a Knicks fan. Like Ewing before him, and Stephon Marbury before him, and Isiah Thomas as GM before him, and others Melo was never treated fairly by the Media and there were two really bad hatchet jobs done to him. The first was Linsanity where Chinese Fans came to the Garden and celebrated their countryman with the type of fervor and support seen in other countries. The Media jumped on this brief phenomenon and declared ( Mark Berman NY Post When Anthony returns from the IL he better know it's Lin's team " ) Lin is the team's star and best player promoting a confrontation with him as the star of the team. If that were not bad enough he had his GM Phil Jackson publicly diss him even after signing him to a max contract. Anthony was also not appreciated by some fans and deserved a lot more respect and appreciation. His treatment in NYC reminded other top stars to stay away from playing in NY.

Like they achieved very little success in those years and he left for another franchise and spent a very long time there. I'm not sure that meets the mark for jersey retirement in my eyes.
He only left because they started to break up the team from 09 when they went to the conference finals. That’s when he decided to leave
Bc Kobe and Duncan were smacking every team around in the rugged west
I know there’s other top 75 players that don’t have their jersey retired but it’s something about Carmelo Anthony not having his retired something feels off about that.
He just retired….
He embraced the team and the city! Melo and Amare deserve jersey retirements for taking on the challenge of playing for us!
Amare? Y’all tryna see everyone jersey retired
@@Blank9458 maybe Phoenix but he killed for a half a season here then got hurt again that doesn't get anything in the rafters
Gil is right this generation being gifted retirement look at the work u put in wit dat team in Jordan era nobody won but MJ players stayed loyal to they teams and made HOF 💯facts
Jeannie has said that the Lakers have very very strict criteria for jersey retirement. Have to with so many legends that come thru there. Even Kobe's numbers were evaluated (both of them separately) to see if they met the standards. DFish is not retired in LA. Only Kobe, Shaq, and Pau are from the more recent dynasties.
Very informative. Thanks for sharing ! 👏🏾👏🏾
That makes so much sense now
This is my favorite discussion so far in this podcast..I like when b Jennings is more into the convo

Look At BJ when cuz say “AC Green”😂😂😂😂
Like. “ I know DAM well we ain’t bringing up AC Green😂😂😂
I love gils watch parties! These are GREAT!!!
Fish isn’t a HoF’er. Lakers (& Dodgers) only retire HoF’ers with relatively formidable Lakers tenure/credentials.
Gil’s tripping on this one BIG time
Gil always tripping. He's an egotistical maniac.
@@slimdigga9100 he’s only tripping bc he was on the wizards for 7 years and they didn’t retire his number😂
We won’t get his jersey retired since they let their rookie draft pick wear his #0. Fucking joke. Even Westbrook out of respect to Gil didn’t wear #0 when he was in Washington that one year.
From the 75 list, these are all the players that haven’t got their jerseys retired yet

Melo could've done a farewell tour with Portland or LAL but chose not too. I don't think he believed it would end like this. Maybe he comes back in as an end of bench guy if some contending team needs to fill a roster spot. Idk if he'd even want that but it's possible.
Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, Byron Scott and Michael Cooper need to have their Laker jerseys retired.
Wasn't melo doing well w Portland???
He can’t get 15 retired in Denver because Jokic and honestly as a Knicks fan I don’t think he should get his #7 retired in New York ….outside the name it was a disappointing few seasons besides 1
If that's the case no Knicks should get a jersey retired 😂
@@MrJamb0reepreach
Disappointing but not cause him. There have been few to no circumstances where he hasn’t came through for his team. Only thing I blame him for is being stingy with money so the teams can’t surround him with talent
@@rafaeldiaz1646 imagine if everybody in the league takes a pay cut. That is foolish
@@rafaeldiaz1646 it would be foolish bc it doesn’t guarantee a championship
As a lakers fan, I don’t want any retired jerseys from anyone that didn’t spend the bulk of their career here.
So you would the Lakers take down Chamberlain, Pasol and Shaq?
Gil tha only one makin sense, EVERYBODY GONE GET THEY JERSEY RETIRED WIT THEY MINDSET
Nuggets can absolutely do what the Celtics did. One of their banners is for Jim Loscutoff. He has his nickname "Loscy" in all caps in the rafters.
Nuggets can do the same and have MELO up there
Couldn't agree more when KMart saying to Gil "Now you sound like this guy" while pointing to Shad 😂😂
gil had me dying when he brought up ac green 😂😂😂
He just trolled everyone look at Jennings and KMart's reactions lol
The way how todays day is, with player movement, nobody will get their jersey retired.
He’s going to get his jersey retired in NY.
Also gil saying the heat won’t retire bron jersey is ridiculous, they retired shaq jersey lol they definitely retiring bron’s. Up for debate if the lakers do but I wouldn’t be surprised and we know damn well Cleveland retiring brons
Nobody has worn #7 since melo left the Knicks . I think that speaks volumes.
He ain't been gone that long. And Personally I remember Melo more as a Nugget.
Retiring a lebron jersey in LA is disgusting nasty work
exactly he is not kobe
7 scored a garden record in points. 15 took a bottom of the barrel team to the playoffs rookie year. Averaged more points, rebounds & better all around shooting % then Lebron but didn’t get roty. It’s deeper then basketball!
He could’ve played on a lot of teams the suns should’ve went and got him definitely could’ve helped him out
Interesting points.. alot..!
if we talking Melo.. 8 years.. Plus Denver never missed the post season with his help..! Respect..
Missing B4.. he didn't break their back.. gave them Murray 💯🙏.
Retire 15 Twice, Imo.!
Deserved ✌️👍🇳🇿
I want that hat Kenyon got on love that Dallas shit
As a Knicks fan, I’d put Melo in the rafters. But BJ is wildin’ asking “what has Pat done” have some respect
"Stop it Gill" 😂
Even called him Gilbert lol that’s when you know he was fed up lol
Gil is the show tbh. They be trying to retire everyone, it doesn’t even make sense
If Deandre Jordan and PJ Tucker can have a roster spot Carmelo definitely could 😂💯
He had our city on fire!!!! Syracuse legend brought us the chip! Gmac, melo, duany and company
Gmac was a stud
Damn Melo can’t even get a day to just say job well done. Debate that other shit another day

Congratulations to Carmelo, the NBA's best roleplayer ever
Bron getting his jersey retired in all 3 cities. What was Gil talking about.
He should NOT get his jersey in LA based on his current resume. They may give it to him if he retires a Laker for sentiment but if he goes with Bronny somewhere else? NAH
@@oreoblast2012 His LA resume is easily going in the rafter it’s not even something worth debating
Not about the points it’s the impact of How you affected the team while you was there
Man Melo put the Denver nuggets on the map. They can retire the number twice
Reggie Miller was all time 3 point leader after his retirement for 5 years until Ray Allen broken it. During that time, I personally think the farewell tour was arguable.
What has pat done ? Patrick Ewing for the knicks that’s crazy to even say 😂
Zydrunas Ilgauskas got his jersey retired in Cleveland. Its really just up to the owner and GM and front office.
This man GIL thought JOKIC was in his 4TH year i am doneeeee😂😂😂😂😂😂
A high percentage of melos shots don't touch the rim....his pull up was so efficient with a quick release ...
If the lakers retire Lebron’s jersey, we just lowering the bar.
Bron didn’t play that long in Miami and they are for sure retiring his jersey. Kd will have his jersey in two rafters
kd should only get retired in okc in my opinion
@@NAMISIMP I agree.
there’s no doubt lebron gets his jersey retired in miami lol. what gil is wrong about on this is that you have to consider the franchises history and the context behind it. lebron got the heat 2/3 of their championships lol. without him, they’d still only have the one they got from dwade and shaq. how can you not retire his jersey? yeah he only spent 4 years there, but he got the job done in two of them. there are still a bunch of franchises in the nba that have yet to win a championship
As a Nuggets fan, I'd love if Melos 15 in baby blue got retired then when Jokic retires he can have the Dark blue 15. Can be the first time two numbers get retired lol. But we know that wont happen. People can hate Melo all they want but that man put Denver Basketball back on the map. I became a Nuggets fan because of Melo, hes done enough here to retire his number in my opinion, but thats just me.
Would’ve been great if melo could’ve finished his career in Denver this year and get a ring on the way out. Melo one of the greatest scorers to play the game. 💯🏁
They’re still mad at how he forced his way out. That’s why they let Jokic get his number.
LOL, why would they do that?
melo the one who got me started watching college ball
I’m not even a LeBron stan, but dude is a legend. He’s in a different category than a Derek Fisher. He’s definitely getting his jersey retired from 3 teams.

I love the athlete retirement announcements because it’s always like they’re the last to know lol melo BEEN retired lol I guess he’s just now accepting it
Retirements means you are no longer available for the activities in question. If no team picks him up he could have gone to Taiwan, China, Europe etc. He is making it clear that he is done playing basketball, anywhere, professionally.

Knicks should 100% retire his #7
He meant more to that Knicks fanbase than he ever meant to the Nuggets I think
They loved him and he pretty much was that franchise for a good few years
Nick Collison has his jersey retired in OKC. If Melo don’t get his jersey retired in Denver and New York then what does that tell you
Nick was with them since Seattle.
It shows that commitment to a team is what retires your number if the team respects you
Man that’s crazy. Melo jersey has to get retired. But it can’t be at Denver. So unfortunate.
It’s up to the Franchise to pick what numbers they wanna retire. So the newer franchise like timberwolves,Raptors,Grizzlies,Heat,Magic, Hornets have a lower barrier for someone to get there jersey retired because they only have history from the late 80’s/Earl 90’s Like the Nba retired #6 for Bill Russell nobody else coming in can wear it.
Miami Retired Michael Jordan number for his contribution to basketball 🏀. So it’s possible.

All 30 teams overlooking Melo was no coincidence but other retired players always seem puzzled.
It's crazy to think that Melo is sitting at #9 on the all time scoring list even though he has been on the decline since the OKC trade in 2017. Every team wanted him to re-adjust his game for some reason and if it wasn't for that him and LeBron would have been battling for the #1 spot on the all time scoring list today. It is sad that this man went out like this when he had so much to give to this game. The league robbed his career man.
That's a weird take lol, he isn't efficient on offense and is statistically one of the worst defenders of the last 3-4 years
Sad that he refused to adapt, man was still playing 00 ball
Nah I feel you on most of this but Melo would have to not get injured for this to be kind of true
Long difficult 2-pointers on isos are a low percentage shot. The man hasn’t reached 44% on field goals since 2015. And he’s a worse defender than Harden. He should have been out of the league a decade ago 😂
Now you know why the league had to sabotage Melo's career... Same with Westbrook
They're disrespecting Pau Gasol like he was a bum. Dude had a case for Finals MVP in 2010. He was the key piece that made Lakers solid in 2008 till 2011
