My first bike! I rode that bike more than any other bike I ever owned.
Touring, town cruising, it'll even wheelie!

Those were nice bikes. My older brother was a motorcycle nut and owner, Kawasaki's and Suzuki's were the brand's owned.
Our mother did not care much for him riding motorcycles. She definitely kept pressure on me to not also ride bikes. I understand how moms sometimes feel that way about motorcycles.
So for me it was buying and reading all the motorcycle magazines. I learned alot about bikes in that era which spanned 1978 till about 1988. 1978 was the year my older brother bought his first street bike after a few years of riding dirt bikes. He bought a candy apple red Kawasaki KZ-650SR with the cool cross over pipes.
Well I did live vicariously through my brothers motorcycle days, we'd double up at times so I could enjoy motorcycle riding. He even let me drive his bikes a few times. I almost bought my own bike, brand new cash purchase of a Honda CB-500 interceptor. But again I knew my mother would not be happy so I talked myself out of it..... Shortly after I bought my first new sporty car and it quelled my driving excitement desires.
But I still read the motorcycle magazines and even gave info on future bikes my older brother and his buddies bought as I was a bit of a motorcycle information geek and could pull any info out of my head for advice.
This said I always liked the Yamaha Maxim models especially the 650. A classic Japanese Cruiser bike. 😎👍

Hi, nice bike, I just got a 650 maxim in my shop, I’ve been having a hard time finding de 17 digit VIN number engraved on the bike. I need help, in your experience where can I find it? Or is it normal to have the 9 digit VIN visible? (#X#-######)

If you wanted to throw a couple of thousand to get a nice fork set up and conversion , with another couple thousand at a dope control panel , gauges , and a set of wire wheels , new tires , and grips levers and mirrors , you might have a special cafe racer that’ll fetch almost double to the right buyer and tuning of the build , but it does have build qualities to it , 2 , 3 hundred tops , if I would even think about the time having to go into it , maybe not , but it should not go to anyone for over 600 bucks , 1200 is four times anyone should pay for this crap ...

Has anyone noticed that the right side covers are usually missing on these Yamahas and this is reflected on Ebay. You'll see lots of LEFT covers but hardly any RIGHT covers and when you do see them for sale they go for over $100. I have a 1982 XJ 750 Maxim with both covers HEHEHE
