Some lines really hit on rewatch like Lucy remembering feeling the Sun when she was 6.
And how she thought her father would be mortified if she destroyed an entire civilization (Vault 4) just to save him.
Such great freaking writing.

I love the evolution of "Okay dokey" from Lucy throughout, its a great little way to show her evolution from Vault Dweller to Wastelander. Hope it doesn't actually take until 2034 for Season 2 and that this show gets a ton of accolades for the whole crew. They did great. Easily my favorite new show of the last decade!
So I've been devouring as many interviews and sutff as I can about this, and I learned that they began working on season 2 immediately after season 1 wrapped, with Geneva saying that they prefer to release things with less of a wait period and want this to come out fast. So, fingers crossed, we could see it early next year maybe!!!
This show outperformed beyond any expectations that I was cautiously trying to hold back from having...
There are so many possibilities going forward, and even though some questions seem to have been answered, I'm pretty sure they also actually haven't been.
Top tier execution on every level...they've made it very difficult for me not to have crazy high expectations for what's to come.
Remember Moldaver was in Shady Sands when she met Rose MacLean
And it kinda seemed that rose and moldaver were together romantically
20:19 into 20:20 , I absolutely LOVE this moment. There is that split second where The Ghoul is actually a little scared/worried that it might have hit him, and you see the understanding of what she actually did cross his face in terms of a slight grin; he knew right then and there with that shot that Lucy was saying yes before he asked the question.

Moldaver’s actress has said some interesting things in an interview, there are definitely plans to develop her story more. Maybe flashbacks, but some suspect she will return next season for the same reason she might have survived so long. I like the idea that she had/has ties to the Institute and might even be a synth.
Excerpt from the interview (she doesn’t spoil anything, really just feeds speculation)- “When questioned about how Moldaver survived the nuclear apocalypse and the 200 years thereafter, Choudhury responded, "I can’t, but I like your predictions, and you can figure stuff out, I think. But again, it’s in line with the fact that she’s a scientist. The fact that she created cold fusion makes me think she can figure out how to live."”
The showrunners have said they have not planned out the story... They are just making stuff up as they go. The moment to moment writing and vibe of the show are great, but I wouldn't try digging into the plot too deep.
Institute,i dont know much but im pretty sure that they are only really focused on wiping out the Commonwealth(Boston and dont really have the time to make contact with anyone on the other side of the country...
@@rustycookiepekka6875 I probably should have separated “ties to the institute” from “maybe a synth”. My thinking was more along the lines of synth runaway from the Institute, or maybe survivor from the Institute if they went with cannon being the ending where they are destroyed. Super Mutants and death claws were “a west coast thing” until the games decided they weren’t. That said, it’s been a long time since I played Fallout 4 so my memory of the Institutes was a bit rusty, having refreshed from the wikis, I didn’t remember how explicitly “alt MIT faculty” its origins were or some other bits that don’t line up with pre-war seemingly California based Moldaver.
Who knows, I don’t feel like her showing up both pre-war and NCR era just being another cryo explanation would be very satisfying explanation and could still see some ways institutes or synth could still work and that I’d find very interesting but it’s all pure speculation with 0 evidence for now.
@@SpitFir3Tornado Curious where you saw that? Genuine question since I hadn’t seen anything like that but also nothing to contradict it! It would be interesting to see the context.
It did seem pretty clear they had a lot planned out within the first season at least, as much as they pay off hints that are consistent in the moment but turn out to best fit later reveals, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they know what comes next season and beyond. I have seen other comments that Bethesda/Howard told them not to do certain things with the plot/characters because they were planning to do them next game, I could see that need to coordinate with the game writing team forcing less long reaching plans.
Either way I don’t think there’s anything wrong in itself with not having some grand plan,it’s not a crazy approach to take not knowing how much traction the show would get and some of the best shows most famous for their supposed long planned epic story arc turned out to have been much less planned than they’d implied.

My theory with Dane announcing Knight Maximus, is they are positioning themselves to the politics of The Brotherhood
That's exactly what happened it's not a theory.
Yeah Dane wanted to have a good position withinn the brotherhood, and put herself alongside Maximus as she knows he is rising to the top, and she took advantage of it masterfully. Also, it's a great show of support for Maximus, too. Shows they have a good friendship.

I love how good the NCR armour looks. It's a fantastic imagining of how it looked in New Vegas
Mysterious stranger is FAR too mysterious and “cool” of a character to be Thaddeus. But supermutant Thad? That voice from a big green walking muscle?
And so it was that the actions of Lucy MacLean, A Child of Vault-Tec changed the wastelands like other vault dwellers before her. Only this time, a new limitless source of energy called Cold Fusion was created which could mean a new era of peace for some or conquest for others.
Vaults 31, 32 and 33: Despite the losses from the attack from raiders lead by former NCR Ranger, Lee Moldaver the residents of Vault 33 endured and some moved into Vault 32 to rebuild after discovering that the residents there have been dead for 2 years without explanations.
Norm: Norm trapped in vault 31 by Bud Askins had no choice but to enter his father's cryo pod to avoid dying from starvation or dehydration hoping for his sister would return to save him.
Siggi Wilzig and CX404 aka Dogmeat: With the death of Doctor Siggi Wilzig, his companion CX404 or Dogmeat as others call her has decided to accompany Lucy and forms an attachment as she did for Wilzig before her.
Filly: With the help of NCR and The Brotherhood of Steel, Filly rebuilds from the damages the fight between Maximus and The Ghoul and provides protection from any further incidents from raiders to cutthroat mercenaries.
Vault 4: Vault 4 and its residents continue on their daily lives, until the death of Lee Moldaver reaches them, and the vault goes into chaos with the death of their prophet. Those who survived, return to the surface and traveled to Sacramento, The Capital City of the New California Republic to restart their lives as they did in Shady Sands.
Thaddeaus: Thaddeus's transformation as a Ghoul could have made life hard for the former Squire, but instead, being found by the Followers of the Apocalypse was welcomed and became a combat medic to help those in need. Avoiding any sightings of the Brotherhood fearing of facing retaliation for desertion and possibly sharing Brotherhood secrets though has never committed to this day.
Dane: Despite recent events, Dane had become Squire of the newly promoted Knight Maximus where they both will both fight side by side against whatever threat comes next.
Lee Moldaver: Lee Moldaver who's lived for over 200 years remains a mystery. A secret she will take to her grave. But, not before achieving her goal of creating Cold Fusion as a limitless source of power in the hope will be the first step to everlasting peace.
Brotherhood of Steel: The Brotherhood despite suffering heavy losses, successfully captured the Griffith Observatory from Moldaver's raiders and have gained a foot hold in the LA County area with the Cold Fusion reactor powering the city.
Maximus: Though the hard work, meticulous luck and experience he had been through, Maximus has achieved the rank of Knight within the Brotherhood and decides to remain with them in the hope to take the first step to shape the Brotherhood into the ideal image that inspired him as a child long ago.
The Ghoul: Cooper Howard after 219 years had finally found a lead on the where abouts of his family by meeting Vault 33's former overseer, Henry "Hank" MacLean who before the war was Barbra's executive assistant who has fled the LA area to New Vegas for unknown reasons decides to follow him there.
Lucy: With the revelations of her mother and the destruction of Shady Sands by her father and how Vault-Tec caused the apocalypse 219 years ago understood that to make a real difference in the world is by bringing down Vault- Tec and their ally's once and for all and has decided to accompany Cooper Howard in tracking down her father as the first step. Lucy no longer goes by the name MacLean as her relationship with her father died with her mother and has started to adopt her mother's maiden name as her last name.
So ends the first chapter of The Child of Vault-Tec, but her story is far from over. Vegetius once said: If you want peace, prepare for war. For War... War Never Changes.
The most hype reaction to the New Vegas reveal hahahaha, i was right there with you 😂😂😂
Seeing Mr House as an actual pre war person was crazy, and it does seem to suggest that the Mr House ending for New Vegas is gonna be considered canon - it would be odd to have him there and have Lucy’s dad show up only to be greeted by Caesar, and we know the NCR aren’t around anymore
We did get Moldavers backstory though, back when The Ghoul as Cooper met her. She told us then how her & Barb (coops wife) had created cold fusion but Vault-Tec bought the laboratories and made the technology proprietary. I love that they made Coops wife almost like a super villain, as it was so unexpected.
They aren’t necessarily confirming VaultTec started the war directly themselves. She only directly confirms VaultTec is willing to start the war, and as high a position as she seems to have the daughter being out in danger at least suggests they didn’t totally plan when it starts. She may not have decision making power like that but it’s hard for me to believe that she wouldn’t have known about a decision to go through with a bomb and gotten the daughter to a safer place.
Not knowing what the writers intended it’s possible that’s what they meant, but it would be more consistent with the way fallout games have dealt with the question if it’s unreliable information. In the different games there have been logs and things saying various groups started or planned to start the war including China and the Enclave. The Enclave info is even a precedent for a faction saying they would do it, having tangible plans to do so (and the ability to literally launch the missiles since they were a shadow government manipulating the US government), and still got caught off guard with their people scattered outside bunkers when things started.

I think we'll find out in Season 2 that VT planned on dropping the bombs themselves, but got caught early with their pants down by China pulling the trigger; There is too little control Vault-Tec has in post apocalyptia, and like you said with the wife and Janey, she wouldn't have let Janey not get into Vault 0 with her first if they had the plans in place and preparation beforehand.
It's been a consistent thing that people were surprised when the bombs fell; like you said, even people who had far-reaching machinations themselves.
I suspect Vault Tec detonated the 3 or 4 bombs in LA that we saw in the show.
USA blames its enemies, thinking that the peace talks have failed. The opposition thinks that the USA's only options are to either de-escalate or attack, so they launch a pre-emptive strike before they lose their ability to fire back.
My Theory is that while Vault Tech did launch the first Bomb but it was actually in cahoots with the Enclave branch, they dropped hints of this when the escapee knew all the info on lucy and all the info that is ''Currently'' being done in the vaults, how else would he know about it if they do not have access to all vault info meaning that they had to play a role in it? also how even in corporate america would they have the resources to access and launch a nuclear bomb without someone within goverment knowing about it?

(not sure if you'll mention it as the episode goes on, will edit with confirmation if so) Earlier in the show, Lucy mentions that she thought she could actually feel the sun when she was a kid, but sadly it was just the memory of her mother that made it feel real..... It was real! She was feeling the sun when outside in Shady Sands!!
5:09 this is one of my favorite moments from Lucy!!! It was a clear case of reparte, calling back to how Moldaver treated them when she got to the vault, a veiled threat with the grenade, and a f- you when she put it on the table while ALSO being genuinely honest that she isn't there to cause trouble and be 'un-civil'
Keep in mind that this show is 9 years after the events of New Vegas in the timeline!
Its actually 9 years after fallout 4,New Vegas is a few more years before even f4.
It's 15 years after New Vegas not 9.
Had no expectations for this being ignorant of Fallout until you guys had it on your schedule. Really loved it and enjoyed watching your enthusiastic reactions/discussions. Will eagerly await season two.

19:00 Good call! I know, through esoteric Fallout lore, and more specifically one of those short clip things Amazon posted in relation to Fallout, that it is Vault 0!
Moldaver in the future is not a plot hole, it's cryo-sleep pods. She had enough money to buy her own we simply don't know where she bunked down or what vault. The raiders in 33 were most likely hired by Moldaver to help grab the father much like Gunners from Fallout 4, Moldaver did not care about the raiders fate as you saw she left a bunch of them behind for vault 33 people to put in a jail. She went there only for the dad for his code.
My Thoughts...Moldaver's companies invented the tech for the vaults and I assume the cryogenic chambers also. So I assume she had access to her own tech chamber to survive after they bought her out. She was also linked to the Enclave as Wilzig knew Moldaver and wanted to give her the cold fusion. He planed to leave and take the CX404 with him as a guard across the waste land, but he was found out early. Great Show and can't wait for Season 2.

I agree. Moldaver knew the right vault to buy a spot in so that she would wake up at the right time. She must have come to Shady Sands after the first game cuz she was obviously important.

They were caught so unprepared and didn't maintain their grip on control that they wanted. I think this was due to the surprise nukes and stuff. not just incompetence (which there was a lot of too)
17:25 Right. You can see at 17:54 also how his demeanor changes when he gets in a position of actionable power and strength. His real colors start to show. I think he thinks he loves her, but wouldn't hesitate to put an end to her if she put him in a compromised position.

22:10 I love this!! The implications to the show, the world, and future games even, of what this Cold Fusion could do, the fights over/for it, are SO dang cool! I'm so sad about Moldaver... I wanted to see her continue her journey. But her main story was complete, She fulfilled her vision of even pre-war with getting Cold Fusion out there and finally saw power to the wasteland.
But the way Maximus GOT his goal from the start, but in a way where he now doesn't want it; it's tainted. There's so many directions he could go. But I think he had enough emotional grounding from Lucy and his experiences that he can reign in that more darker streak.
Moldaver was a scientist with a heightened situational awareness... getting through time not a stretch... gameplay logic
There is one question I haven't seen anyone ask. Of all of the characters from Vault 31, who obviously worked for Vault Tec before the bombs dropped, there is one character from 31 we haven't seen before it all started and the Ghoul was still Cooper. And that's Stephanie One Eye, so the question is who was she and what did she do at Vault Tec ?

All of Bud's Buds were junior executives/executive assistants, so all of them would be below Bud on the corporate ladder. 31, 32, and 33 were given to him to oversee for his project. I wouldn't expect anything interesting from her backstory.
Vault 31 was for middle management. Cowboy's family is elsewhere, I'm guessing New Vegas.

29:06 Great callout!!! They actually explicitly state this in a round-about way in episode 6 or 7. Cooper is at the bar, talking to his friend who played the Indian that can talk to animals in the in-world movie, and his friend says
"Vault-tec is evil"
Cooper replies I think right away, or shortly after,

Cooper is literally saying that Barb IS Vault-Tec. In my opinion, this was very pogniant writing and was huge. It colors the entire throughline of Cooper choosing to actually spy on her. It's more than 'spying on your wife'. He realised his wife had another life and was essentially cheating on him with Vault-Tec, and she was it. Her only boss is the shadowy Shareholder guy. But you called it out that she was the head of that meeting for sure.
26:00 She's not from 31. She was anti-vault-tec. She said that Vault-Tec bought all the companies she ever worked for, and bogarted her technology (she DID get cold fusion pre-war). She definitely wouldn't have been in a vault. At least not with Vault-Tec's permission.
However, there is a thing in the ending credits that shows more likely what happened; she got a cryopod in the hotel in New Vegas. I forget the name, Tops Casino? But it is newly added lore through the billboard shown that they have cryopods.
And Hank is going to New Vegas... 😁
I think Moldaver could have bought herself a spot in a vault or could have just purchased the cryo pod she needed to survive the war. Vault Tec will sell pretty much anything to someone with the money to buy it. And as we know from the Fallout games there are "vaults" that aren't official Vault Tec Vaults.
You got to watch the outro...it shows some of New Vegas, something occurred there.
Funnily enough the outro has some things (like library cards ending in 2076) that seem to further clue in that Shady Sands was nuked in 2077 not 2081/2 as they have now come out and claimed to correct the chalkboard timeline of the NCR.
I am far from being deep into Fallout lore, but they did this finale really great! Amazing content, way, way better than expected! Very intrigued to watch the next season. 👍

There is something going on with Dane concerning Maximus. I think Dane is using him to become a kingmaker. Dane doesn't want to be a king, they want to be the one behind the king. I still think Maximus put the blade in the boot.

I've seen a lot of people confused to why moldavor kept lucys mother in that state and why she didnt just put her out of her misery.. and a part of me thinks she knew lucy would come and look for her dad. She would've needed that extra push to convince her dad to give up the code. Idk thats just my opinion

Yuuuuuuup!!! I'm so stoked!!! The way they're going to tie Moldaver to the pods in the hotel (or casino? I forget) is awesome. I feel we will still see more Moldaver AND Wilzig in season 2 through flashbacks.
Like, we still haven't even fully explored the Flame Mother. I don't htink they're going to just drop that plotline.

I'm convinced that Moldaver was affiliated with the enclave at one point, and either made it this far through their own cryo or even cloning. She knew the enclave had the cold fusion device, and I think the plan was always "get a VT exec and get the device." The other detail I caught: other than Moldaver's laser pistol, we only see laser weapons on the enclave guards in e2, and we never see one fired.
I predict that the enclave is going to be a *much* bigger player in S2, and laser weapons are being saved as their "holy shit they just melted a guy!" signature weapon.
