  • Defence Minister Bill Blair and Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne take part in a discussion on Canada's new defence policy at the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations. Moderated by Professor Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé from Bishop’s University, the conversation focuses on the country’s updated defence policy that was announced by the prime minister in April 2024. The new policy is expected to boost Canada's military spending to 1.76 per cent of GDP by 2029-30. That figure is still below the NATO target of two per cent of GDP.
