I don't understand a single word being said, but this touches my heart so much, I have to listen nearly every single day, at least once. The rhythm, the lovely sound of the words spoken, the dance, the beautiful voices. This is so beautiful, there are no words to describe it. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making this video. It is one I cherish watching and listening to over, and over, and over again.
Olivia, for some time I have been playing this over and over again. Maybe you are related to one of the chaps. I was in the Volunteer Reserves, commonly known as the Sunday sailors. Similar to the Army Territorials except the Navy. This was back in the mid to late 1970s. Before the time of this video. And before the time of Te Taua Moana Marae. For a number of reasons, this video brings back many great memories of my short and longer trips with the full time boys. I know Wahine Kino was composed for HMNZS Otago, 1980, Hawaii for Rimpac exercise by Tommy Taurima who unfortunately passed away just a couple of weeks ago. What I would love to know is: who are these chap, what was the occasion, when, and most of all, the lyrics.
Absolutely love this!! I know nothing of what they say, but from what I've read, it is Navy men singing about women at ports they've encountered. Regardless of what they are saying, the sound is absolutely wonderful... and I think I know all the moves now haha 😂

Beautiful! ♥️
Pua kalaunu ma ke kai o Honouliwai
Crown flower by the shore of Honouliwai
Wahine 'ilikea i ka poli o Moloka'i
Fair-skinned woman in the bosom of Moloka'i
Nō ka heke
Is the best
Nani wale nō nā wailele uka
Beautiful waterfalls of the uplands
'O Hina, 'o Haha, 'o Mo'oloa
Hina, Haha and Mo'oloa
Nā wai 'ekolu i ka uluwehiwehi
The three waters in the verdant overgrowth
O Kamalō i ka mālie
Of Kamalō, in the calm
Nani wale nō ka 'āina Hālawa
Beautiful is the land, Hālawa
Home ho'okipa a ka malihini
Hospitable home to visitors
'Āina uluwehi i ka noe ahiahi
Land verdant in the evening mist
Ua lawe mai e ka makani Ho'olua
Brought by the wind of Ho'olua
WAHINE 'ILIKEA

‘Wahine’ in Māori means woman, female or wife. Kino’ means evil. Hmmmm…
I read that wahine kino means ugly woman. 🤔 so what are they saying?
Not necessarily, their talking about women they meet around the world as navy boys together would
