Gwangjang market is a ginormous tourist trap. I went there last time I was in Korea and I was so so disappointed by their exorbitant prices for basic street dishes, the quality of it and the overall mannerisms of the ladies (One gave me change covered in red spicy sauce). The place is much too overrated by the media. I am planning on visiting the less hyped local markets next time.
Nice video! Now that you guys have visited - would you recommend staying Hongdae or Myeondong? (or perhaps split half/half)? We will be in Seoul for a week! (my husband and I are 30, and 33) so trying to see if we are too old to stay in Hongdae the entire time haha. I've also heard that Myeondong has a lot of closed shops since covid, so wondering if you felt like it feels like it's picked back up fully. Thanks!
We stayed in Insadong and it had great little restaurants and places to eat, with little alleyway shops. It was a great area to stay for us. You definitely wouldn’t be too old for hongdae or feel out of place. Public transport is so fast and easy so honestly doesn’t matter where you stay as it’s usually only a couple train stops away.
