    I love that late 19th Century train station. I think that I mentioned this before but I met John Candy when I was 17 years old. It was in St Petersburg Beach Florida and occurred at the end of the day after filming beach scenes for the movie Summer Rental. I watched them do this for hours. When I talked with him it was only the two of us with another member of Paramount Film Studios. He was very friendly, polite, and sincere. I could tell that it was genuine and not fake.

      Thank you again for telling me in my older Niles video about visiting the train depot! I am so glad I checked it out this time as the building is really nice. It is cool that you got to meet John Candy and that he was quite a nice guy off camera! "Uncle Buck" is probably my favorite movie of his. It's sad that he has passed. Thanks for watching!

      Michigan has had a lot of rain the past several weeks, so a lot of the rivers are quite high. Thankfully Michigan has been spared of a lot of the flooding which has been occurring in other parts of the country. I can't tell if the hotel is still open. I read online that a part of the building has been converted to apartments. The train depot was really beautiful! Thanks for watching!

    Nice video, Scott! I was taken by this town and it's long, rich history a number of years back. Some notable figures were from Niles: Aaron Montgomery Ward, the Dodge Brothers, Ring Lardner and Tommy James (of the Shondells), to name some. In recent years, Niles has become a foodie paradise with excellent restaurants! Try Jim's Smokin' Cafe, Pizza Transit, Front Street Pizza, and Iron Shoe Distillery. Best chocolate ever comes from Veni's. There's always new places opening up, too.

    So there's a tavern by st Mary's church that was the inspiration for Styx too much time on my hands. Tommy James of Tommy James and the Shondells, Tommy Shaw of Styx, and Jason Newsted of Metallica are all formerly of Niles.
    Also that city of four flags hotel is currently ran as an apartment complex. Next to it is the old ready theater that hopefully will be reopened one day. Moore theatres owns the wonderland cinema down by the river as well as the old ready and some years ago before the flood and before the pandemic the plan was to reopen the ready as a single screen with over 1k seats. It'll be cool if when they do that they decide to show classics in such a classic building.

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  2 года назад

      Thank you for the information! It would definitely nice if they could reopen the cinema as it would be cool to use a classic building again.

      I know Tommy James and the Shondells recorded Hanky Panky there and then a few months later disbanded. A DJ liked the song so much he played it until it was picked up by many radio stations in the Midwest. Many of the old band mates were not available, so Tommy James ended up finding a bar band in Pennsylvania to back him. The rest is history.

    I could take people places in Niles that they would never see unless you grew up there. They are some wild places that most people don't know about but would like to see I think that you would. If you would like to see Niles Michigan in a way you have never seen it then look me up on RUclips, I don't have a regular channel but if you want me to I will make one. The Ready Theater was a big one screen and had a balcony and a very big chandelier that hung way up in the middle of the theater. The theater is still there but it has been closed down for many years and is very haunted. My grandfather retired from the train depot after 33 years of service. I can keep going on and on about Niles Mich. There was so much here that has been torn down, it really is sad to see all that is gone now.
