      One thing that you can take a look at is how the population over the years has declined because people are moving away from there because it's getting worse

    Dowagiac looks like a nice town….. The architecture of the downtown is much like a lot of small towns in Michigan founded around the 1800’s….. It’s nice to see them preserved…..Life is simple in these towns…. Food, Family, Fishing,and Friends….. Thanks for sharing… Stay safe and Happy Holiday’s…….

    • @scottman895

      For sure! I saw a lot of similarities to other towns in Michigan with architecture dating back to the late 1800s. Dowagiac is quite nice. Thanks for watching, and Happy Holidays to you too!

    It’s a small city the museum is nice. Dowagiac has a lot of history. Furnace/stove manufacturing, fishing lures and the native American Indians. (Potawatomi) it’s has a nice college SMC. There was some well known people that were from Dowagiac or had some connection to the town.

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  2 года назад

      I really enjoyed the museum too. They did a nice job presenting everything from Dowagiac's history with the furnace manufacturing to the Native Americans.

      I don't live in Dowagiac, so I'm not entirely sure what the crime rate is. For a tourist visiting for the day, I had no problems at all and felt very safe.

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  4 месяца назад

      No worries! You make a good point though - a visit to a place is much different than living there. It's always good to know the positives and the negatives before looking to move to a particular place.

    Wow no mention or visit of the Native American tribal reservation in Dowagiac. Also your history starts when the Europeans arrived in Dowagiac totally skipping the importance of the Native American tribes that dominated the area and their contribution.

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  Год назад

      I do make a brief mention about them when I show the interior of the history museum, but you are right though that I should have mentioned more about them. After all, Native American tribes such as the Potawatomi have shaped the land around southwestern Michigan for many centuries well before the first Europeans came over. I'll need to make sure I mention more about Native American history moving forward. Thanks for pointing that out!
