I've been in many hobbies where there have been many things like the "endgame keyboard", "dream bike", etc. But after all these years I've learned that the best thing you can have is something you actually use. I'm sitting here with like 3 Lamys and what not, all barely in use or 6-7 knives I said I'll need someday and when I needed them the most I couldn't bring them because of airport regulations. But, I think if I were to say what my "grail pen" is, maybe a Lamy AL-Star (the black ones oil up too much, silver is alot better) a nice B-Nib in black and my different inks I can refill it with. Maybe a Lamy Studio or something.
The famous striped barrel of the Souverän models, called the “binde,” is made by bonding cellulose acetate in multiple layers. This process is labor-intensive and requires skillful craftsmanship to achieve the layered, deep look of the stripes. The cellulose acetate binde is still crafted using traditional methods that are rarely used today, giving these pens a unique feel and visual depth. I own this one and the M1000 Renaissance and the M800 Green and Black Striped version.
I love mine. This was one of the first pens where I noticed a difference between a really good sub $150 pen and a really expensive pen. The nib is bouncy. The feed is just right. The weight is almost nothing but enough to apply pressure on the nib. Beautiful feedback that at times felt like a pencil in the best way. A nice big grip that is not too close to the paper thanks to the long nib. The manufacturing tolerances otherwise were no stand outs because a lot of cheap pens really nail their manufacturing these days.
personally the m800/805 is the perfect size and weight. got smaller hands but even the 200/400 and 600 are too small. the brass in the 800/1000 gives it a bit of heft and feeling of quality
Thanks for the review. I love the M1000 -- I lucked out with a great deal, so be patient, it is possible! -- but it is larger than I find I like to use day to day. I am considering having someone apply raden to mine, because it is a terrific canvas for raden and I think I'd be more likely to take it out more often. Oh wow, is that a phenomenal nib to write with! I find that I don't have any issues using any of these pens from M200 on up, but the perfect size for me would be somewhere between the M600 and M800. I tend to use an M600 more than an M800.
I dont know which one is perfect but i prefer big bold nibs thats why i have pelikan m1000 black and green, pelikan m1000 renaissance, pilot custom urushi and sailor kop.
Me. I will always go for the flagship model. One and done. Just go with the M1000 no need to mess around with m600 or 800 coz they are not cheap iether. M1000 all the way. Can't beat that gorgous no 8 nib.
Personal preference Both this and the KOP can be considered grail pens Heck even a lamy Al Star can be considered a grail pen It just depends on the person

All I know is I'm not paying >=300 bucks for a pen, much rather buy a watch for that money.
Instant like because of Rudolph.
I don't have a Pelikan but this makes me think that I would put it on my list!
do it (but look at the secondary markets as he said they are pricey but you can usually get them much cheaper second hand
good review

The M1000 is my favorite size Pelikan.
Holly shit I just saw the M1000 Raden Black Infinity online.
Why is it going for 2900€?
limited edition only 400pcs in the world.

It depends also on the size and weight. I like fountain pens to be comfortable to right with
M1000 vs M800?
The size is really nice if you have medium to large hands.
What makes this a Grail? I'd rather go for a Sailor Pro Gear kop
Personal preference
Both this and the KOP can be considered grail pens
Heck even a lamy Al Star can be considered a grail pen
It just depends on the person
