it's absolutely the same for the m111 engine of my '94 C200 w202 you can add it in the title of the video, the difference between before/after this little change is unbelievable!!
Excellent video! had same issue with my M104 engine. new fuel pump, new fuel filter and had cold and hard start issue...changed the Fuel Pressure regulator and it seems to be FIXED!
I have a 98 mercedes Benz c230 it's a 4 banger non supercharged, with 250k miles on it knowing even though a previous mechanic had it. I had to change alot of parts to it especially the fuel system I'm about to do this and I bet through it's whole life THAT hasn't been changed at or looked at, thank you for this another awesome information that something so little can cause such horrendous problems thanks again mercedes source helps alot on older models mecerdes.
Brother! i owe you a six pack of beer for this one 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 I have had this rough start issue for months. Mine was weird. It would start great after about 5 hours. Or after a quick run. But if it sat for about 40 minutes to an hour, it would barely start and rough idle. I was about to buy MAF, Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter and just start throwing money at it until i found this. I found that Bosch FPR on RockAuto for $30 and bam! All good. The pliers with the ring was hard for me to get off but aside of that it all went smooth thanks to you. Much appreciated for this video. Saved me a ton of money and headaches
hey, glad my video helped you ... if youre in the USA .. try to read the blink codes thats on the passenger side near the battery (its a small black box) .. I have a video of what each blink code means .. this will help you also find and fix and other hidden issues ..
It worked! You were right, mine was dripping when i pulled the hose off. Used bbq tong tips bcuz didn't have nose pliers. Your vid was great intel and diagnostic clues were spot on! 99 w140 m104 . Next project soft close doors!
Lemontech74 Well just make sure ur fuel pump is turning and a good clean fuel filter is on there. The fuel pressure regulator is between $30 and $45 on eBay .. so hopefully that will work and resolve that annoying start issue.
Excellent! I just recently did an engine overhaul and now facing cold starting difficulties and believe the issue is that fuel pressure regulator since I already replaced the pump and the filter.
This is a good video. Today I followed it on my e320 1994. I succeeded, but almost had a big problem. I was working on a warm engine (an hour after being driven) on a fairly warm day. Before removing the regulator, I unscrewed the brass cap and depressed the Shrader valve with a screw driver. I got a hiss and then some gas dribbled out. I let it dribble for about ten records and then replaced the cap. Next I disconnected the rubber hose and pulled out the C-clamp. I wiggled the valve with my left hand. It popped out followed by pressurized burst of gasoline that sprayed my face, jacket, etc. Luckily the glasses protected my eyes. I washed my face and finished the job. Getting the c-clamp seated again took quite a few tries. Question - why was I sprayed with about a pint of gas? I’m assuming that after I closed the Shrader valve, the internal fuel pressure started to climb again because of the warm engine. Is that right? If so, is this avoided by working only on a cold engine ?
Well may not have drained all of it which is hard to do unless u force the fuel line clear of fuel .. if you don’t start the car u won’t activate the fuel pump to build up the pressure again . So the pump will keep the correct pressure for the next starting of the engine. So u kinda have to leak , spill fuel to release it.. only then will there not be anymore pressure built up in the line/ rail . If u get what I’m saying.
It could make it have rough idle. But I would suggest checking the blink codes to find out what else is wrong or going on with ur car.. it’s the small black box attached to the wall where the ecu / computers are located.. because there are a number of possibilities like failing ignition distributors or spark plug wires, failing fuelinjectors, clogged fuel filter, if check engine light is on ( it’s time to replace the 02 sensor) , the list goes on and on of possible issues..but fix whatever blink codes pop up first.
Hi there, just want to know if the regulator can cause flooding when I try to crank it over, car is a 1996 W202 C280 with M104, I have spark (tested all 6 plugs) but when I crank the engine it won't start, cranks very fast and can smell fuel out exhaust, I pull the plugs and all are soaked in fuel, I clean them off and reinstall and try to crank and same thing happens again. All plugs coils and leads are new genuine parts, battery is brand new. Fuel pressure regulator is original MB factory part (25 years old) Don't want to keep throwing parts at it. Any help greatly appreciated.
I know the m104 always have head gasket failure..which allows oil and water to get into the spark plug area ..your fuel injectors could be leaking ,..it could be a number of things ..I would strongly suggest if your mercedes has a obd2 port under the driver side dash. hook it up to the obd2 fault code reader.. any faults with your car will be shown and should be tackled first ..
Well I might also suggest doing a obd1 blink code read on your Mercedes.. see how many blinks / fault codes the car is indicating it currently has.. this could lead you to any other issues involved
Hello. If I recall correctly. Bosche is made in Germany so they should have Germany stamped on them. There are so many fakes out there is hard to tell the real ones apart. Besides the price. Hopefully that helps you.
Nice video! Can it cause cold start issues as well? Mine struggles to start up in cold weather after sitting for a couple of days. When it eventually does it idles rough but when it warms up, everything is ok and restarts properly. Thanks!
Christopher Eaton nope haven’t done that job yet. But it seems pretty easy. Just so much to disassemble step by step. Check out pelican parts.com ,I think they had pictures on how to do that project. And I always say check for any codes on the obd 1 or 2 system beforehand.
im having the same issue after replacing both fuel pressure regulators in Mercedes SLR (M155) seems the new regulators are making this long cranking issue
Eha adjustment to lean that’s why your getting the clicks. Still after fuel pressure regulator. Your still forcing in more fuel but your missing the fine tune adjustment.
Well check to make sure , u hear the fuel pump turns on/ running Then check fuel lines and fuel filter is in good condition or need to be replaced.. big signs of needing new spark plugs, wires and ignition packs , when u press the gas pedal it’s Hesitant To go fast ,lacks power, shaking etc .. biggest sign of bad fuel pressure regulator is long starting / crank times, needing to depress the gas pedal to assist in starting the car ,fuel smell around the regulator unit.. Hope any of these tips help you !!!
Shshssh Dhshsshsh I would say your fpr has gone bad . No fuel should be going into the vacuum hose at all .. so would recommend replacing your fpr ASAP.. I think when the fpr fails they immediately lets fuel leak/sucked up into the vacuum line. Hope this helps you !!👍🏻
Well the problem is that the car runs lean all the time 13% long term fuel trim. Fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, coilpack, leads are all new. So i suspect the fpr. Thanks
Alright man appreciate it. Is it possible to just change the pump ? Or how do I know if it’s fuel pump because mine makes the same noise and it won’t start
MB TUNING I would suggest taking your Pressure reg off your car and looking for any stamped parts numbers.because I found mine on eBay just by putting in my model information and comparing the actual part to what I was buying online..

yes i would install a new Pressure reg ..most are under $50 bucks ..try to get the oem Bosch unit ..they last longer
@@piscatawaymechanic Thanks for tips, I appreciate it.
Thanks 4 d video...
Thank you! Mine is leaking too. Just checked it after your video... going to order the new one
You just save me almost $200.00. I couldn't even remember having made that exact repair over 30 years ago. LOL
This solved my issues. thanks!
Jerry Cortez glad my video helped you out ! 👍🏼

Again, great video thanks! Do you think After market non-bosch fuel pressure regulator is ok to use? Bosch is DAMN EXPENSIVE. thanks again
Thanks! Man!
Hey man, thanks for the video! Would the fpr also cause a rough idle that vibrates the car?

i realize it's kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good site to stream new series online?
@Javier Major i use FlixZone. Just search on google for it =)
@Spencer Lucian yup, I have been watching on Flixzone for years myself =)
@Spencer Lucian thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!!
@Javier Major Happy to help xD
Nice video ...also did the engine run rough and sputter at idle?
Yeah mine did .. but mainly just long start times and hesitation on accelerating
Same problem here. Strong startup when starting the engine cold. Starting again when it's hot is very hard + strong gasoline smell from exhaust.

Yes it can. But also the mass airflow sensor could be the issue with that.. but other things need to be checked also

but check and see if you f.p regulator looks like this . if it is the same ,then you should be able to replace it same as i did on this video
