    I showed this to my parents and they assumed the person filming was a girl the entire time. Then when they saw that it was a man and how this couple followed the path any straight relationship could, they were changed. Thank you, Australia.

    I have a friend who died in car accident years ago. He had a boyfriend and they had been living together for 10 years plus just like a family. When he died, his boyfriend could not claim his body and visit funeral (because the family did not allow it). If his boyfriend was a legalized husband, he could do so as his legalized spouse. This is just one of the example why it is important and desperate gay community want marriage equality. This is not just for fun.

      Marcus Lee Even if the partnership is recognized by law as a marriage, if the partner's family has a problem with you, you can either leave them out or stay away yourself. Meaning, no law can fix family issues, because when the partner's gone, you have to face them.

    1- another couple being gay/lesbian does not affect you in anyway. it does not mean you have to be gay too.
    2- don't use your religion as an excuse because not everyone believes your God and saying that two people cant be in love because your religion says so is like getting mad at someone for eating a donut cause you're on a diet.
    3-if Australia really is a 'free country' then people should be able to marry same sex.
    4- its THEIR life NOT yours
    5- how would you feel if you weren't allowed to get married to the person you love?
    6-since when was someone else's relationship your decision??
    7-there are people murdering, raping, killing, stealing, kidnapping etc and we are arguing about whether someone should be able to love who they want or not??
    GET A GRIP PEOPLE, LOVE IS LOVE.

      ***** Your comment is full of blatant lies and irrational nonsense.
      1. Even in places that have 'strong civil unions', granting same sex couples access to civil unions only, and denying them legal marriage, is NOT 'equal legal treatment', it is an arbitrary and unjust denial of equal treatment which serves no useful or valid purpose for a law.
      2. Granting a couple a legal civil marriage license has zero effect on what is taught in schools, and regardless, parents have always had the right to take their kid out of any class that might teach something they feel goes against their beliefs anyway, and this has been true since long before any same sex couples were legally marrying. Your remark was irrational rhetoric.
      3. Granting a legal civil marriage certificate to a same sex couple does not violate ANYONE's rights. It has no effect on the rights of anyone except the couple who get the certificate, just like your rights are not affected by any other marriage of any other couple. More blatantly false rhetoric.
      4. Any laws about people using public bathrooms or showers has nothing to do with laws that allow same sex couples to get a civil marriage license. You're not being logical, and you're just spewing a bunch of sky-is-falling rhetoric.
      You clearly have no valid point to make on this topic at all.

    • @TheDavep2
      @TheDavep2 9 лет назад +4

      ***** You clearly don't know what the phrase "intruding on rights" actually means, and it looks like you don't even understand what "rights" are. You also don't even know what marriage really is. We are not talking about any symbolic religious ceremony. This is a question of secular civil laws that regulate access to a secular civil marriage certificate and all of the important legal rights and legal protections that come from that.
      Marriage has always been a civil matter, not religious. Religion didn't invent marriage, it doesn't own it, and it doesn't control the secular civil laws that regulate legal, civil marriage. For many centuries after the Christian church was formed, the church felt that it had no business being involved in the secular business of marriage at all. So nobody's rights relating to their religious beliefs are getting intruded upon because the issue has nothing to do with anything that happens within their religion. It is a matter of people going to the window at City Hall and filling out a form for "application for civil marriage' and getting a legal 'certificate of civil marriage'. People get legally married every day with zero involvement from any religion.
      But conversely, there ARE lots of religious organizations that DO support same sex marriage and are happy to perform religious wedding ceremonies to symbolically celebrate these marriages, so what about THEIR religious rights? Why should THEY be prevented from conducting their religious practices as they choose, simply because the law arbitrarily prevents same sex couples from getting a civil marriage license?
      You then spew a barrage of completely false statements about:
      1. schools in the USA (it's a lie - the parents can always take their kid out of any class that teaches something that the parent's don't believe in, and civil marriage laws have no effect on school curriculum anyway),
      2. the photographer (your facts are completely backwards, it was a GAY couple who tried to hire a photographer who then refused to do business with the couple, which violates state"Public Accommodation" laws that do not allow businesses to discriminate against the public, and has nothing to do with civil marriage laws),
      3. The Swedish pastor (he was acquitted and served no jail time, and 'hate crime' charges don't have anything to do with civil marriage laws anyway),
      4. polygamists marching in any parade, gay or straight, has nothing to do with civil marriage laws. And if any polygamists ever wanted to challenge laws against polygamy, they have ALWAYS had the option to take their case to the courts and do so, since long, long before any same sex couples were legally marrying. They are separate legal questions and each would be decided on its own separate legal merits.
      5. Laws about public toilets have nothing to do with civil marriage laws. Your logic is a mess.
      You are very confused about the concept of "equality", especially as it is applied in our laws. It does not mean that everyone is the same, or that everyone must be the same in order to avoid being targeted and harmed by our laws. It means just the opposite. It means that, even though people are NOT all the same, the LAW is required to treat them equally and provide all citizens with the equal protection of our laws. It means that laws cannot exist simply to deny equal treatment, and any law that does have that effect on a targeted group must have some other legitimate legal purpose that justifies this harm and unequal treatment and must advance a 'states interest'. And laws that deny the rights and protections of civil marriage to same sex couples fail that simple test. They exist simply to impose unequal legal treatment and they don't serve any legitimate purpose for a law that would justify this.
      Not sure why you're so concerned about being called a 'hater' since I never called you that. I said that your remarks were irrational rhetoric, and they are. Also not sure why you think being 30, or any age for that matter, gives someone's views any validity. But if it's that important to you, I'm older than you. But what may be more important is that I have had a great deal of experience being involved in these issues of civil marriage laws and equal civil marriage rights.
      Have you ever actually read any of the court rulings in the U.S. that have explained exactly why laws that deny civil marriage to same sex couples are unjust and unconstitutional? Do you even know what the trials are about? You seem very uninformed about this entire issue. Try reading those rulings. While they are specific to laws in the states, they provide a good source of factual information about the issue and rational legal arguments that have been subjected to logical scrutiny by the courts, rather than all of the rhetoric and BS that are found on various biased web sites and other sources.

      I'll continue this because your utter lack of self-awareness suggests further discussion will be entertaining. Are you suggesting homosexual relationships carry the same social concerns as relationships established in childhood (i.e. siblings, parent-child)? Are you suggesting that marriage is not based on love, but on sex? Please, take this shovel, and keep digging for my own perverse amusement.

    • @Comments2013
      @Comments2013 9 лет назад +1

      Ryan West No, love, which is ephemeral, can be a part of marriage but it was never the crucial factor. Biology is the principal factor. How would you explain arranged marriages which were (and still are) common throughout much of world?

    • @eunomiac
      @eunomiac 9 лет назад +11

      Comments 2015
      I would explain them as cultural artifacts that I'm not especially keen on, but if everyone consents then who I am I to judge. Now, if biology is the principal factor justifying marriage, would you be okay with a law that prohibited marriage between people who cannot or choose not to bear children?

    It's not even 'end marriage discrimination'. It's 'live your life and let others live theirs'. If you let others be free with their ideas, then they will let you live free with yours. If you oppress different ideas, then your ideas will be oppressed by someone too.
    Whatever you put out is what you get back. Either choose the world of oppression and conflict, or a world of love and freedom. It's your choice.

It shows what really matters in a relationship, not whether it's a man or a woman behind the camera, but seeing that they stick with this guy through the thick and thin. We almost get to know these characters, their interests, and maybe a few of their quirks. And we learn how deep their love is.

Just like how we look back and shake our heads at the people who fought for slavery we will look back and shake our heads at religious bigots who think their beliefs come before another persons happiness. Its already happening, more people want it far stronger than you don't want it and in the end happiness and love will prevail! Be on the right side! Your not going to win! -Ally

    I remember when this came out (lol puns). Watching it again now, I still get chills. The whole thing is really beautifully done. In 2017, a survey was sent out to all Australians by the government asking if they supported marriage equality. 80% of Australians participated. 62% said yes. (For direct democracy, that’s HUGE.) There’s a touching video of Penny Wong in tears . Way to go, Australia. This is how it’s done. It’s also a lesson for other movements about how to reach people. You can’t guilt them or shame them, you have to make them sympathize with you.

    I guess this would be my first comment ever on youtube after having my account for almost 10 years... i cant believe i just came to notice this add after 7-8 years? More or so... i also think this comment will be submerged in between the 30k other comments good and bad... but let me tell something to the team that came up with this idea, script and video realization that they nailed it... got me to tears and got me thinking... i live in a country that’s way too far from even accepting LGBT persons as they are... persons. Don’t even imagine i would see in my lifespan marriage equality nor even civil union, or rights... but this video made me think that there is still hope... thank you...

Pay no attention to those that don't understand.. they probably have had an electrician fix their power, plumber unblock their pipes, doctors stitch them up, counselor help them thru a tough stage in their life, a taxi driver drive them home after having too much to drink, a favourite sports personality that has represented their country, a financial planner who has helped create wealth to build a better future for their families or even a builder who has help build the roof over their head.... Who is Gay. Think before you speak... Everyday, humans help humans, straight, gay, bi and transgender!! Don't be judgemental.. everyone deserves to live a full and happy life! #againstdiscrimination

    This is wonderful! As a straight person I will say that being open-minded and very emotional to things with depth and meaning, this sent tears down my face each time I watched the video! So much so that I didn't respond until I came up with a meaningful reply. I understand what it is like to be different and not a "march-in-the-line" soldier; you are socially side-lined, made to walk your own distance, deprived of the very privileges that your everyday person takes for granted. It is time to stop simple-minded thinking, to stop one's own discrimination and hate of the "other" and for all to really understand one another and get along in intellectual empathy. This is indeed the 21st century; we have technology, the raised intellect, the higher understanding to see that we are all in fact the most advanced living beings on our planet and to learn how to appreciate, accept and take-on new ideas rather than staying back in time, unevolved and primitive. Thank you Australia, my home country, for moving ahead with this wonderful exhibition of forwardness and tolerance :)

    I don't understand the people that are sooo against homosexuality and gay rights, how in the hell does it effect your life if two men/women get married? Please tell me HOW? It doesn't make you or your children gay, it's not something contagious, you know? It's also not a choice, no one in their right mind would choose to be gay, it's not like colouring your hair. Don't you think that every gay person once wished to be straight, until they accepted themselves for who they are and became happy.

    • @Veggenuke
      @Veggenuke 10 лет назад +6

      It's people who believe that it's religiously wrong, people themselves who may be gay but can't accept that so they project it outwards, or people who believe that if their children see more gay couples around that they will feel that that is okay and will have a higher chance of being gay or coming out. Usually it falls into one of these categories if not more. None of which in my eyes justify being against homoseuality.

    BREAKING NEWS - STATE NUMBER EIGHTEEN - The state of Utah has just ruled that their state amendment denying same sex couples access to civil marriage is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and same sex couples are now legally marrying in Utah, effective immediately. An excerpt from the conclusion of the court ruling:
    The State of Utah has provided no evidence that opposite-sex marriage will be affected in any way by same-sex marriage. In the absence of such evidence, the State’s unsupported fears and speculations are insufficient to justify the State’s refusal to dignify the family relationships of its gay and lesbian citizens. Moreover, the Constitution protects the Plaintiffs’ fundamental rights, which include the right to marry and the right to have that marriage recognized by their government.

    BREAKING NEWS - a federal judge in SOUTH CAROLINA has just ruled that the state's ban on civil marriage for same sex couples is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. South Carolina is one of the states in the Fourth Federal Appeals Circuit, and the Fourth Circuit had recently ruled such bans unconstitutional in a case which originated in Virginia, which is also in the Fourth Circuit. These Federal Circuit court rulings affect ALL states within that circuit, meaning it directs South Carolina to stop enforcing their marriage ban along with the other states in the Fourth Circuit. But South Carolina has been seeking a way to disregard that federal ruling and continue banning same sex marriage in their state. This new ruling confirms that they are required to comply with the first federal appeals ruling and confirms that they must cease infringing on the rights of same sex couples who wish to legally marry.

      There is difference between incest and marrying someone from same sex or different, race, religion,ethnicity...etc.
      No I won't have sex with my sibling or my parents. I do not feel a normal human being can sexually get attracted towards their parents or sibling. Again that is my thinking and I am not stating its as fact.
      I have met enough gay people to know that there is nothing abnormal about it. Its their life their choice. I still have to meet people involve in incest sex for my mind to consider it normal.
      Even if you have sex with your mother or brother I will not come and judge you, like i do not judge gay people for their sexual preference even though I am not gay. I believe in 'freedom of choice' of people.

      Aren't you trying to force words in my mouth. I do not take things or believe in it because someone said so. I only believe in things which comes from personal experience. I do not feel comfortable about incest. I won't have sex not only with people whom I consider blood relatives but also with whom I grew up and are like my sibling. I feel incest is disastrous at social and psychological level. But again that's my personal opinion.
      The topic we are discussing here is not incest but gay marriage. Even though you are not capable of distinguishing between two, trust me they are two completely different topic.

    • @parallaxax
      @parallaxax 10 лет назад +1

      Rishi Kishore Its really simple…. It's not natural or socially acceptable, normal, or what ever word you want to choose, to have sex with your relatives, have sex with children, or have sex with a person of the same sex. If you make a statement like "Love in itself is pure and it is beyond the shackles of sex" which you have done, then this statement is in itself false because there is a vast list of people you should not have sex with regardless if you love them in a sexual way. Hence you believe it is ok to have sex with your mother or you don't. So some forms of sexual love are in fact perverse and disgusting.

    • @AnalystRK

      Any sane person would have made sense what message I wanted to send through my comments.
      Child marriage, incest damages society. I do not see any harm coming through gay marriage.
      If you find something is perverse and disgusting does not mean it becomes universally perverse and disgusting. I do not like eggplant it does not mean eggplant should be banned in world in world because of that. If i am doing something and am not hurting or harming other in process, I do not see why it should be banned.

    BREAKING NEWS - Same sex marriages will begin in the state of Illinois TOMORROW, Saturday 2/22/2014. The state decided in favor of same sex marriage at the end of 2013 and the marriages were scheduled to begin in June, since Illinois often has a six month delay between enacting a measure and implementing the change, but today the court ruled that there is no reason to require these couples to wait any longer, as doing so would simply delay justice and would serve no beneficial purpose.

    A country's government determines the law. Marriage is not owned by religions. All citizens should be entitled to the same rights. To the thousands of lgbt+ people in Australia who contribute to society, pay their taxes and uphold the laws, and yet are denied the right of equal marriage, I am sorry. I was lucky enough in the UK to marry, and frankly I'm astonished that Australia still doesn't have equal marriage. The hate speech going on in the comments section absolutely astounds me. So much hate. Since my partner and I have been married, society hasn't crumbled (unless you count Brexit, but we won't get into that now😉), and our marriage hasn't stopped marriages between straight couples meaning any less. Yep, all we won't is our right to equality. Good luck Australia! ❤️

    My take on this as a Christian is that if a country is not proclaimed to be a "Christian" nation (barely means anything now anyway), and there's an insistence on separation between church and state, why not make it legal? If you allow people to get married in drive-thrus by a guy dressed like Elvis than how is this someone less "sanctified"? However, I don't think it's fair to force that belief on others and attempt to force pastors to marry everybody. Many pastors are already very selective about who they agree to marry, and I think in a country that gives the constitutional right to freedom of religion gives them the freedom to marry within Biblical guidelines. Not to say any of the Christians I know think anything different of homosexuals than anyone else - I think those that do are sadly hypocritical and missing the point.

      No one (certainly in the US) has ever been forced by law to solemnize the marriage of two people in any gender combination that person did not want to preside over and they never will be. In fact, this is true in every country with marriage equality. Non religious people may, with the proper sanctioning of the state, solemnize a marriage if the couple has a properly issued marriage license. There is nothing that stands in the way of marriage equality for same sex couples but the antigay industry. Marriage equality will not bring with it any obligation of a church or other religious body nor an ordained minister of any faith to preside over a union they disapprove of. Everything that you have heard from the antigay industry that contradicts the above is simply not true.

    BREAKING NEWS - The U.S. Supreme Court has just decided that all of the pending Marriage Equality cases that have ruled in favor of marriage equality and have been appealed to the highest court will be allowed to STAND, and the Supreme Court will not consider re-trying these cases. This has just brought marriage equality to ALL FIVE of the states involved in the pending circuit trials (VIRGINIA, UTAH, INDIANA, OKLAHOMA, and WISCONSIN) and all of the other states within those same circuits (NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA, COLORADO, WEST VIRGINIA, KANSAS and WYOMING). That's a total of ELEVEN STATES that have just gained equal civil marriage rights for same sex couples.

    This video actually gives me hope that one day the world will just see that it is okay to love another person regardless of whether the person is of the same sex or opposite sex. With the help of this video, we take small steps and transition into a more accepting and loving world. Love the video and its message!

    It's the same way Americans legally changed definition of marriage to include marriage between different races. Contrary to popular belief the move did not result in a push for polygamy. Just such a gay marriage will not lead to incestuous marriages between siblings of the same gender. Having heterosexual marriage doesn't lead to incestuous relations between siblings of the opposite gender either.

    BREAKING NEWS - Today, a federal court ruled that the laws denying civil marriage to same sex couples in the state of ALASKA are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. From the ruling:
    CONCLUSION
    Any state interests identified by Defendants are insufficient for Alaska’s same-sex marriage laws to pass constitutional muster under due process or equal protection. Plaintiffs’ Motion for Summary Judgment at Docket 20 is GRANTED.
    With this ruling, the Court hereby DECLARES that Alaska’s same-sex marriage laws are unconstitutional for violating the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

    Speaking of wonders; reminds me of a 'riddle' I was told years ago, when I was fairly young. I consider myself a feminist but the riddle showed how (at least at that young age) I was, in some way sexist.
    A man is out for the day with his son, when the sun gets hit by a car. The father calls an ambulance and goes with them as they rush him to the hospital. When they arrive the doctor walks in and says "Oh my God, My son."
    Who was the doctor?
    Now to give myself props I suggested things like his adopted/step father or he has two fathers and they're a gay couple, which showed I was fairly accepting even then. But even when told I was being sexist I never considered that the doctor could be the mother.

      You thought gay father before mother? Well, it's good to see that you think sort of outside the box, at least.

      I thought it was a gay couple too but I don't think that makes me sexist as I wasn't saying women couldn't be doctors, I was just going to my first association of a doctor which depending on your experiences can be either predominantly female or male :S

      Yeah, that's just designed to catch people out so one person can call another sexist. What's weird about that scenario is that the father didn't call the mother to let her know their son had been hit by a car.

    I went to a pride parade today. It always makes me so happy to see other people be able to be who they are. I don't see how being homosexual effects anyone in a negative way? I rather see it positive, we need diversity to be a society. People need to stop hating and loving instead :) ! Have a great day people and spread this video!!

    BREAKING NEWS - in the case for same sex marriage in PENNSYLVANIA, Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., has denied a Pennsylvania county clerk’s plea to stop such marriages in that state. This removes the last legal barrier to Pennsylvania becoming the nineteenth state in which same-sex marriages are permitted. A federal judge had previously struck down the state ban, and state officials declined to appeal. The Schuylkill County clerk sought to appeal in their place, but that move has now been turned down at all three levels of the federal court system.
