Wow wow wow. This is exactly the type of piano Ive been wanting to play my whole life. Ive been playing on and off for a long time but Ive always felt something was missing and I am not connecting with the music when playing. Ill end up playing. I would love to play pop music that freely and not mechanically - or simply playing it exactly like someone else. Thank you for this eye opener. Not sure how I will eventually get there.

Totally agree with a previous comment that there is a Vince Guaraldi sound, mostly in the bassline. Keith Jarret comes to mind in the top end impro as well as some gospel as in his interpretation of “ Things ain’t what they used to be”. Really liked the lesson, great playing…thought your piano stool might get kicked away at some point 😂😂😂. Great video.

I hope you don’t mind (good bit of lyric there) but can I correct you on the origin of this piece. Elton composed it on a Sunday and the next day went into the office, was told Guy had been killed on the Sunday in a motorcycle accident, went to the studio and recorded it and titled it Song for Guy.

      Yes the problem we found
with showing all of the chord sheets is it takes away from the camera and keyboard views. The other thing with this piece is it doesn't have many chords so using the approach I've mentioned on so many of these videos is to think about Chords first I.e short hand chord charts - is probably the best approach. Though if you want more dots and sheet music it's worth investing a couple of dollars to buy the score (it's still in copyright) on sheetmusicplus or someone like them. But with the few chords in this song, I don't think it's even worth doing that when you can use a pen and paper. No RUclips trick or keyboard widget is a substitute for quality practice. The good news is, chords are where it is at and these great chords are so accessible.

I am an absolute beginner without any knowledge of music. When I started your tutorial, I thought wow this is so simplified I'm flying along. Then when I got to section 3 beginning with B flat major, when you get to the F major chord in the simple slow demonstration you then go to E flat major... nice and simple for me to implement. However, when you add the rhythm, you change the chords from F major to another chord which I cannot fathom. Then of course you get all flash and burst into the concert performance. Sorry to say that really spoilt the whole thing for me because I think you're just showing off and that's basically what you're itching to do all along. Just saying.

@geoffsmith5456 interestingly, do you think Elton John solo piano instrumentals written in the late 70s is learnable in 10 minutes for a "Complete beginner without any knowledge of music" as you described yourself in your comment. The fact you understood the seminar up until the 10th minute or so is a pretty remarkable thing in of itself seeing this video is targeted to serious piano students who would find value in the Keith Jarrett / Elton John combo at the end of the video! Two very unique pianists. In that sense, Imagine what you'd accomplish in 30 mins a day? And with RUclips, you've got an endless array of masterclasses to your disposal. A bit of gratitude doesn't hurt anyone. It could even lead to something...🙏
