As a forensic psychiatrist and baseball historian, IMO this will turn him into the late Dodger pitcher Ralph Branca. Ralph NEVER recovered from giving up Bobby Thomsen's HR in the 1951 playoffs-"the shot heard round the world"
U absolutely nailed it. When I saw the smug look on gerrits face as he waived four fingers. … at that moment I knew the game was over. I swear I said outloud. It might ruin his remaining starts. If not more…I am not being hyperbolic guys. He is the laughing stock of MLB today. He cannot handle that nor can my softly managed Yankees. Michael Kay was so pissed. Paul didn’t get it. Kay did. One more thing guys… from the white sox walk off to the yanks getting a couple too…why are they ripping clothes off and jumping around like they … ugh just hate it. Cringe can’t have a beard not classy but can do all that. God I miss torre and zimmer jeter and the boys.
Hey Coach, if you want to surely hit a batter, the hip ribs area is were you aim, were you do it. The batter can not avoid the ball no matter which way he turns. Cole is a Cy Young winner. I think he knows this. It was intentional.
I mean it’s kinda hard to figure a guy out when he’s averaging a .350 batting average against you. It’ll make you think that none of your pitches have effect but I do agree that he shouldn’t had hit Devers intentionally. If he hits it, he hits it. Part of your job as a pitcher is to force weak contact upon the hitters at the end of the day
It's possible he just wasn't feeling like himself on this day, and Devers was a challenge he wasn't in the mind set to tackle. Most likely intentional? I think it's exactly what you said...just a knowingly reckless pitch, targeted to jam but if it hits him...meh. But hey...that's baseball baby.
Of course he hit in on purpose. If he could've walked him to atart the game he would have, but theres no way that would work so he did the next best thing short of pitching to him and try and get in Devers head a little. What a wimp.

Devers looked so confused by the IBB
Cole’s confidence is shook

Gilbert has a tell if you watch his glove position on his fastball, it is lower than when he throws his off speed.

On a side note if anyone hears a loud thud its just the Red Sox.

Sucks to see cuz cole’s such a good pitcher
Gosh dang it Will! Stop focusing on my Yankees losing to your Sox lol
Was fun while it lasted ☹️
He hit him on purpose
He tried to scare him inside and they were fully okay with hitting him to maybe shake him up. Absolute chickenshit move in my opinion

I watched this live and the commentators were bemused and basically said after they scored to tie .see thats what you get
Cole always came across to me as a douche canoe. Don't know if its true he just always has that aura.
perfect description....Cole has a hole in his ego and totally deflates after he intentionally walks Devers.
Giving him 1st for free then pausing mid delivery giving him 2nd for free makes no sense to me
Anybody else call him Carrot Goal?
I dont think he was intentionally not trying not to hit him. He probably told himself if it hits him, oh well. Got to love karma.
