Omg!!! FINALLY a realistic tipping suggestion video!!! You know who I love to tip? The people that are looked over. I saw a man on his knees clipping grass with scissors every day. I gave him $20, and he cried. He couldn't speak English, but his appreciation didn't need words ❤.
As you fly in look out the window. The poverty is heartbreaking. Because I am so blessed (like most Americans) I try really hard to be a blessing. I tip as much and as often as I am able. Look at your budget, decide what you can afford, set it aside then use it all. Generosity looks different for different people but whatever you budget be generous. I guarantee your life is more comfortable than theirs and I guarantee you will not go unappreciated. Be kind yall❤
Agree so much. Kindness is the magic word here. Setting a budget aside is a great tip (see what I did there :)?). The fact that I cannot afford to tip as much as the average American does not mean that I am a lesser person. Kindness and giving what you can, exactly that!
It's hard to be sure whose life is more comfortable. A lot of people go nearly crazy because of how much they work in US and Canada. Not everyone has family or friends too.
I just realized that everytime I have planned a trip I have watched your videos, and so now listening to your voice is therapeutic for me as it reminds me of travelling and how I feel when I am. I'm going to Brazil next week and am a little nervous about it, but I put your recent videos on and now I'm back in the spirit of travel. Thanks for that 😎
At open bars i usually give a 20 or so and dont tip after that.. i did that in mexico once and 5 mins later there was a new bartender.. wont do that again
First off, great video! It left me a bit amazed though :). I think there is a great difference in culture. In my view, Americans are huge tippers. Pay per drink? Seriously? I could not afford that, I'm sorry. I live of 75% of minimum wages in the Netherlands and save up for my trip to Mexico all year. Of course I am aware of the financial situation in Mexico and I do tip. But certainly not 10 dollars a day for only my drinks. It's great that you pay attention to this subject. However, maybe we should also keep in mind that someone else's financial situation is not for me to judge. For me, it's the gesture that counts, not the amount. Even people who can afford going to Mexico, may live soberly at home. Give what you can and be kind to staff.
I just got back, at the bar I was tipping out before I left each spot. If dinner 4$ breakfast 2$ Swim up bar 4$ at end of session. If we met more people and asked for large rounds of drink more than 5$ depending on the situation and how many people. Went charter fishing and they tried to get tips for the "sights," natural environment. That was a no for me considering I already spent 800$usd for 6 hours.
Most Mexican workers at the resort make on average 270 pesos a day . In US dollars that’s 10 dollars a day. 1 of our dollars is work 20 of their pesos. A 5 dollar tip is half of there daily salary . Disclaimer most resorts require the workers to put tips in a jar and the manager pulls out there share or what they want and the rest is split among the rest.
We are headed to an all inclusive next week. This video was in line with what we have done in the past, we needed a good reminder of what we have done in the past and to plan for our trip. I think these are good recommendations. Appreciate all the great videos and advice!
This was quite helpful and realistic. Saw another video where they were tipping 20-50 and said to keep $100 a day for tipping.. I'm new to Canada and planning my first vacation n was so worried that my very meagre salary will go away just tipping 😂😂
As someone from México, please hear this guy because right know in many places mexicans cant get a good service because expants and wworking nomadas living here started to give tips like if they were in America and ofc prices of everything went up and we mexicans cant tip like you with our mexican salary so 10% is excelente for a tip outside all inclusives do not give more.
I remember 5 of us bar hopping in the Azores back in the late 70's, and we took our cabbie around with us for about 6 hours. We fed him, got him seriously shitfaced, and at the end of the night tipped him $20. He about cried... that was his rent for the month.
One of the first times we went to Mexico I didn't realize there was a sensor on the door that would cut off the air conditioning. I called the front desk and they sent a maintenance man to fix it, which he quickly diagnosed. I tipped him $5. He said "all for me". I replied "of course. You really helped us out". He was SO GRATEFUL. It wasn't much, only $5, but his reaction to receiving it was as good a memory as I have from that trip.
USA Transfers .. all private rides.. friendly and always on time… we were so late due to waiting in bags at carousel. Never had to wait that long ever. Over an hour… for tipping .. 1 buck a drinks.. we think alike 😂… I have given housekeeping more for requests.. all meals.. just bring a ton of ones and fives..
I'm a few months old in Canada n planning my first Mexico vacation. How much tips in general is considered polite? My native country had no tipping culture.
These are good guidelines, and I feel better about the way I distributed my tipping based on your comments. I probably error on the more generous side (example $5/day for house keeping and we keep the place pretty nice, $10 for evening dinners at the nicer restaurants), and our butlers at Majestic Elegance got $50-$60 depending on their attention/personality/engagement. We've had really good experiences with them. Thanks for the video!
Tipping is for service - many servers earn & deserve bigger tips. Crappy service is not entitled to earn good tips. Excellent servers deserve more. Either way whatever I decide to tip is my business. ✌️
That's what's interesting to me. Tipping is not about where you are from it's about where you are. If it's customary to tip then tip even if that's not what you do in your home country.

Love your videos, I’ve been watching for awhile now! Have you thought about staying at the new Riu Palace Kukulkan while in Cancun? I can’t trust any reviews on the property until I see yours😂
Yes, I agree. But one thing I noticed when visiting Jamaica. It was Americans who were ruining Jamaica's money 😢 for refusing to use their Jay's. I've been watching your videos to get some ideas. 😊
Have you stayed in any all-inclusive resorts in Cancun that discourage tipping servers and some other staff? We stayed at Moon Palace about 10 yrs ago and were told not to tip. I still did, but staff were very careful about taking it from us and not being noticed.
its because extra luxurious hotels already put tip in their salary... they call service tax.... resort fee's.... etc.. so u are paying twice sometimes... they do this for excelency service all time...
All inclusive to me means: air, transportation, hotel, entertainment, food and booze. But tips are always extra that you should share with the staff. Share the wealth, google their minimum wage. Also for swim up bars we use a plastic water sealed tube to carry money. I actually use an old pool test stripe container, keeps everything dry even when swimming in deep water.
In a major metro area in the U.S. 20% is the norm now. They expect it. James great video but you left out the towel people at the pool, the person who keeps the public restroom spotless at the pool and the guys who go out at 5AM and scrape the sea weed off the beach. The pool people I tip $2 once during the week each. If everyone does that they are golden. I've yet to tip the beach scrapers but I know I should. I'm trying to relate your Mexico rules to DR and I'm thinking I may be overtipping just a bit. Thanks for the video.
Its thier job. Next are we tipping 711 and walmart. I worked in a hotel in SD. The people who have tip jobs usually are the drug free happy people who deliver a holsome service with a smile. The cooks and janiters house keeping usually have a checkered background and horrible communication skills with bad tempers thats why the do those low paying jobs. Its slim pickins for them. You dont have to feel like we need to give our money to labor the company can pay them a fare wage.
Prob is with some of these all inclusives they also include sometime a resort fee which includes a 10per tip. Now wether or not the company shares that we don’t know but that’s what that resort fee is including so to then add additional tips as you mentioned and rightly so seems like at the end of the day if u tack on resort free of 10per in tips and take an avg 10per tips out of your generosity your getting double dipped and paying roughly 20per tip overall. So really need to see if those resorts don’t include that service/resort fee as additional on the bill. If they don’t then what your r suggesting is about right.
I am happy to see your subscriber count growing. You have always done great videos! Also the new professional way you pan your scenic shots is much better and people are noticing! I would steal some of details in luxury's style and you will skyrocket!

I don't care where you are, Caribean, Mexico or any of these other countries, these people don't get paid well. I want them to be happy so they will treat me well and I'll be happy. So I always tip.
I was a server before I got into nursing and some places use tips as a reason to pay ridiculously low. If you didn’t tip (and we had a lot of Canadians that don’t tip), we got double-dinged.

They only get 1 to 2 percent of that service charge. For instance, a 15% service charge for all inclusive is divided by everyone so the actual money received is quite low.
I don’t think I could afford a 2 week stay with this amount of tipping. Even just looking at the basic tips, for a family of 4 I’m going to be more than $500. I scrimped and saved all year to afford a holiday in the first place. The price of the holiday is pitched already to extract the maximum amount of money from travellers.
U.S. currency is universal and it's what they want. I just factor in bringing about $150 in singles whenever I go. I feel it's part of the cost of going. Let's face it, that's not a lot of money to anyone who can afford these vacations.
They want U.S. Dollars because an American will throw 5.00 all the time. If you throw 20 peseos and you act like your a big shot the will get mad. But if you leave 100 pesos which is 5.00 they like that too.
Why do you use US Dollars? Why not tip in Pesos? You are in Mexico, not the USA! - Are 90% of tips in $US because Americans don't tend to go abroad and think their currency is king? I wouldn't dream of going to a foreign country and using my home currency as payment! In London, tipping is not the norm for Brits so you wouldn't be expected to tip a taxi driver. You might round up a taxi fare by £2 or so but it isn’t expected in most European countries to tip. Service is normally included these days. (only mentioned that as it was mentioned in the video) I do believe in tipping, where it is the norm, but some of these amounts suggested are ridiculous. British people tend to use contactless payments for most transactions, not necessarily cash these days, so it is awkward in a pool bar for example, where you wouldn't have cash on you!-
Mexico is right next door to the US and like he said, the standard of living isn't the same but they also aren't as reliant on tips. You can't tip other ppl what you tip in your country where the income may be 3-5x what they make. I mean, you can spend it if you want to but it's your choice!
This guys is kind of stingy! I tip way more than that, Mexico is expensive to live in as well not sure if you actually visited Mexico or just touristy cities.
I ALWAYS tip when I go to Mexico. I make sure i bring an extra 250 everything. There's the waiter, the taxi, the bartenders, bag delivery guy...hell everybody gets a tip because it's nothing to me. The masseuse gets extra 😏😏
In the places we stay, we usually have the same butlers and waiters around the pool every day. So instead of tipping after every drink, we tip once every couple of days and when we are on the sun loungers and get a drink. We have little handbags in which we always keep a couple of bills.
Omg!!! FINALLY a realistic tipping suggestion video!!! You know who I love to tip? The people that are looked over. I saw a man on his knees clipping grass with scissors every day. I gave him $20, and he cried. He couldn't speak English, but his appreciation didn't need words ❤.

i did the same to a couple of site cleaners in Turkey.

They want U.S. Dollars because an American will throw 5.00 all the time. If you throw 20 peseos and you act like your a big shot the will get mad. But if you leave 100 pesos which is 5.00 they like that too.
@@joannedegerstedt8558 Nobody ever gets insulted when you give USD. Maybe after Joe completely destroys it, but until then, stop.
House keeping is $20
“Adapt to local customs” …except when you tip in a foreign currency. Tip in Pesos guys.
Are your tip suggestions per room or per person?
first you said mexicans tip each other yet 90% of the tips are in dollars? LOL so coolist
Don't be a stingy. 😂
(only mentioned that as it was mentioned in the video)
I do believe in tipping, where it is the norm, but some of these amounts suggested are ridiculous.
This guy is cheap. Sad.
Disgusting
If you are in a pool, where do you keep the money in order for the bills not to get wet?
In the places we stay, we usually have the same butlers and waiters around the pool every day. So instead of tipping after every drink, we tip once every couple of days and when we are on the sun loungers and get a drink. We have little handbags in which we always keep a couple of bills.
