My tip is to check the lines with the E-gates compared to standard Customs. The last time we went, the E-gate lines were much longer, only about 6 person wait for regular Customs, so we chose to do that compared to the E-gate line. We’ve done E-gates in the past, and it worked well those times since the lines were much shorter.
I don’t know if is because I live in Dallas and we usually use the DFW international airport, the Cancun airport is always so welcoming and easy to navigate. Love it!
Just a little advice as far as checked bags goes delta and Alaska have a policy that if they don’t have your checked bag at the carousel within 20mins you can ask for a discount/credit/miles so I don’t mind if they are late lol
Your videos have been so helpful. I’m going to Cancun in October and my friends keep telling me I’m going to get sick from the water (I have no large intestines due to severe UC) but I think I’ll be ok. Only going for 3 noches and I will only drink their bottled water. I’m going to call ahead to see if it’s name brand or their own filtered. Maybe I’ll even send a case of bottled water for them to hold for me to be on the safe side. But I don’t want to live in fear and not go. Your videos make me feel so much more comfortable. Thank you!!
Thank you so much!! Omg so inspirational! Brush your teeth with bottled water as well!! And just be mindful of what you drink and eat!! You’ll be more than fine 😎
If you are going to a resort, they should have filtered water but also provide bottled water everywhere. No need to worry about the water. The brand we have at Ava Resort is e pura if that helps any.
Great walkthrough! Planning my first ever trip to Cancun this Christmas. I assume bringing in food like fruits or veggies is prohibited, but does Customs seize processed food/snacks like candy and chocolate?
I would say that you should get Pesos from a real bank's ATM. You get a better exchange rate then paying in US$ and the workers appreciate the tips in Pesos so that they don't have to go and exchange the money. We have a place in Playa and Cancun airport has always been pleasant in Terminal 4 (United) but we also don't travel during the peak of peak season. We always use the ADO bus to/from Playa as the least expensive transport. The new Tulum airport is also nice and less crowded but a longer drive from the airport to Playa. We just see who has the better airfare.
Wouldn't stopping at the bathrooms defeat the whole purpose of getting seats at the front of the plane so you can be first in line at immigration? Wouldn't it be better to use the bathroom on the plane before decent?
We had an absolutely horrific experience with the e-gates. If you pause the video at 1:42 and look at the hall behind her, there are escalators way back down the hall that you can't really see well in the video. We were at a stand still at the bottom of those escalators the last time we flew into Cancun. Where she is standing was completely packed with people, yet there were 100's of people behind us. We eventually got into the e-gate line, but one of the workers kept taking 8-10 people at a time that were behind us and brought them to the front of the line. This happened 7 or 8 times. So we basically stood there not moving due to the worker letting groups jump the line, we ended up being the last people to get through immigration, even though there were hundreds of people behind us at the escalators. I've never been so frustrated and the worker that let the 70-80 people jump the line just laughed at us.😡🤬 That being said, we've flown into Cancun 13 or 14 times and it has never even been close to that busy any other time.
If you are checking bags I can tell you from my experiences that the immigration wait is nothing compared to the wait for your luggage. We zoom thru immigration (MX citizen) and by the time the luggage hits the carousel everyone on the plane has made it thru immigration. I have found that if you tell any of the transport company reps who you are booked with they are happy to point you in the right direction.
My wife has mobility issues and needs a wheel chair, are there wheel chairs available at the jet way and are they able to take a person through customs and all the way out to transportation (at a cost of course)
I’m going in a couple weeks and people have warned me not to drink the water there. Is the ice from filtered water? Am I safe? I’m a first timer if you couldn’t tell 😅
Didn't know about the E Gates!! Do they have this at Punta Cana airport as well? OMG they do! Now im debating if we need the VIP service at the airport
Is it obligatory to go through immigrations after getting the luggage from the carousel? I always skipped that stop as I believe only those who need to declare something need to go there...Am I in trouble?
@@3Days3Noches Thank you for the reply! Probably I am so stressed and busy to keep my eyes on kids that I never even notice customs staff :-) I do remember once I was stopped by a lady asking me if I have any food. I had some leftover cookies my kids had on the plane so I told her I have it. She just asked where we are going to stay and off we went.
I guess it depends on how experienced you are! Many people have no idea about egates and still go through the staffed immigration because it’s what they are familiar with. Also arriving in a Sunday morning makes a huge difference! So tips and hacks kind of mean the same now a days I think!! Sorry you didn’t get anything from it 😞
I have never had a problem renting a car. I love to experience and have a car to go anywhere at anytime. i.e. Belize, Bacalar, Holbox, Merida and so many other interesting places. I feel safe driving a rental so just educate yourself on possible scams and issues. 😎
I think it is pretty nasty and dangerous to make such a terribly wrong and misleading guide. What you are saying is simply wrong. I went through customs and migration yesterday and it was pretty much the worst experience I have ever had. You are claiming they are occasionally screening your luggage? They checked the luggage of everyone by hand and and looked at all items, touched everything etc. The migration process was a nightmare. I had to wait 3 hours in a q and the officer didn't understand a single word of english. I ended up getting 10 days even though my flight back goes in 35 days. Look at the google reviews of the Cancun airport migration office. Its a horror movie. Many get put into rooms without any reasons for hours and days getting denied food etc. I was actually lucky. I wish someone would have warned me before. People like you made me have this terrible experience. HOW can you be so irresponsible and make such a guide?? You don't even know what you are talking about. What you are saying is true when you arrive at terminal 3 (when you are flying from Europe or NA). I was actually visiting Buenos Aires before and had to enter via Tetminal 2. Everything other than Terminal 3 will give you the prison camp experience. Great that you are making so many videos without having ANY clue what you are talking about.
What she is saying is generally the experience for most people going through. If she hasn't come through the other terminals where they do now rigorous checks how is that her fault. Her experience was exactly what mine was.
I feel like her experience obviously wasn’t the same as yours so calling her wrong and nasty is completely un necessary. I didn’t hear any part of the video that said I promise you if you follow my tips, this is exactly how your airport experience will be.
I went to cancun 4 times and I can say that your video is the most detailled and informative. Thank you!

Will customs do a pat down or body scan? I believe they don’t let nicotine vapes threw
I’ve never seen them do a pat down or body scan but don’t quote on that. Vapes are illegal and if they find it I think it’s like $500 😳
@ Good to know thanks!
My Cancun vacation was at least 1 hr longer thanks to Blanche telling me about the E gates. 🙏🏻
Yayyyy priceless lol
Hello! Are the egates only for US and Mexican citizens? We are traveling there from Europe, I’m a bit confused of it 🙈thank you very much!
@maajinaa and Canadian! You could always try it lol
Try telling my girlfriend to only bring a checked bag on vacation 😂🤦🏾♂️
@texas2far 🤣🤣🤣
Can you use the e gates when travelling with 2 and 4 year olds
Unfortunately you can’t
I'm a permanent resident with a Bahamas passport. Will I be able to use the E gate or do I have to go to the regular immigration?
I dont think so. The passport has to be American , Canadian or Mexican.
My wife has mobility issues and needs a wheel chair, are there wheel chairs available at the jet way and are they able to take a person through customs and all the way out to transportation (at a cost of course)
Yes! You just need to set it up through the airline
