You made add this again to my wishlist. I really enjoy the theme and already checked gameplay and looks nice, but the 2h+ to play makes me think that I might not take to the table (even solo) that much. Oh well.. will check for a good price on it or on some MathTrade :) Thanks for the review, really well done :)
This game is both awful and awesome. I love it, especially as a solo game, I fully agree with you on that. Maybe I should pick up the expansion too :) Whilst I also really love Robinson Crusoe, this game has a stronger narrative and feels far more serious. Both games are pretty hard to win.
This War of Mine is one of my favorite games, so I'm happy to hear that Robinson Crusoe is comparable, since I'm hoping to buy it soon. I have both expansions, but Tales from The Ruined City has distinct scenarios which give the game a very different feel--there's an investigative mystery, a love story, a scary epidemic, etc. I play silly games like Terror Below, Horrified, Lords of Waterdeep--but TWOM is perfect when you have several hours to explore.
Have the base and expansion, only played base so far. It does take long IF you can survive long enough. As I kept playing, learned that you have to expect the worst, it WILL happen, you just need to ameliorate it as much as possible by being prepared ahead. Love it!
Thanks for this. Have had this game on my shelves since Christmas and have still yet to get started with it. This review has at least tempted me to try and make time for it, and perhaps even find a whole weekend to dedicate to it... Pleased to hear your views on playing multiplayer - that's pretty much made my mind up to play it solo only... Lol
I just bought the app off of google play about 2 or 3 days ago. It was originally $13.99 but I bought it on sale for $1.99. I think the sale is still on as of today (08/03/19). I haven't tried it yet.. had to take advantage of sale.
Very thorough and excellent review, it will be interesting to see where this emerges in your top 100. On the strength of this I will try pick up a copy. If I don't like it however, I'll come and raid your pantry of canned fish ;-)
(After 6 min) Ok,...ok,.....adding to chart......ok Very nice review on the game. I like the scenario/journal/story telling aspect to follow. I wasn’t sure about this game the first time I heard about it but your review describes the kind of games I’m interested in. Do you have the new Resident Evil 2 board game? If you do, please do a review on it. This was another I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not.
Found a dead man’s stacked stash of food for his dead kids. After looting the map off the dead kids. That shit was so yummy probably saved my characters lives, and thematically yummy too!
Its got good game mechanics but you have to be prepared for the themes like (spoiler....) neighbours begging for help while their spouse is undergoing rape, etc. I like horror games like cthulhu and dark-fantasy but phew, this is dark-realistic....too dark for me.
Love awaken relms! They are pricey but so far havent been disappointed by all the content they include.
Lol just bought it since its on sale and after watching this review. Dont let me down please

definitely agree with you about the journal teaching the rules as you go

This game is SOOO tense! But if you get your engine up and running the last few days are a breeze. I love it.

Thanks for the tip! I just bought the app. But beware, the companion app for the board game is another app which is free of charge.

Sadly, not touched that game - it's not one I'm expecting much from though, these franchise miniature games are very hit and miss.
The Broken Meeple That was my impression on it. Thanks for letting me know though.
Will look forward to trying out “This War of Mine”.
I need to get the expansion- have the base game- but waiting to play with the expansion! Ahhh!
Is the wooden box on top of Chakra where you keep your weed? I keep mine behind my games.
Ha ha, no, i keep games with too much content that never get played! :P
had a go at the first story play through but did not survive cannot wait to finish so can use expansion
More stuff expansion would be nice.

Ha ha brilliant!
I was lucky, the game was on sale so the expansion did not cost much more than base game

Jesus, haven't encountered that one yet!
@@TheBrokenMeeple me neither. Also you don't have to read red content. Game gives you choice.
At the end you said you can return to reality after the game.....ooof. They will need a Russian expansion.
