MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
Video of icebox:

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Glad to see I am not the only trapping who can enjoy and appreciate what a feet of engineering beavers can do. Came across a dam deep in the woods one year that looked just like the Hoover Dam. Never did trap that pond. I check on it every year. It never fails to amaze me. By leaving that pond alone I too have been rewarded with hours of viewing pleasure. God bless you.
Thanks for showing 'grace'.
there was a terrific documentary on beavers. Apparently, they play host to many other small critters in the lodge over the winter. It was fascinating to see what a huge difference they make, bringing the ecosystem back into harmony.
Beavers are pretty darn cool. Too bad they are so hated.
Those Beavers are worth their weight in GOLD!! If you had to call in an excavator to make that pond, it would have set you back $$THOUSANDS$$. Terrific spread, your Blessed Boss, thanks for sharing.
Not sure if you saw the first vid on the subject but I got refused for a pond permit. The beavers built one for me with no permit required :-))
Saw It , I believe I replied to it saying that they were a God Sent. :) The Camp is looking like a picture card straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
I bet your neighbor don`t even like himself. You are an outstanding man and I love your videos
I don't see a lot of smiling over there so you may be onto something haha
Good to see the beavers doing well. I still find it hilarious that they stuck it to the man and built that pond without a permit. Just love it. Thanks Boss.
I wish they'd dam up the lower marsh now too.
One of your best Homestead videos - thank you. The give and take is what most people can't seem to understand in this me me me world. Great real-life reminder.
JC, you are a Blessed man. Thank you for sharing simplicity in the midst of a world run amok. I could not agree more about balance in managing natural resources.
"World run amok" boy I guess so. :-o
Thank you for sharing about the "Beaver". They have created an amazing pond area❤️
You could spend your entire life considering and pondering the nuances of a beaver pond...and it would not be a wasted life :-)
Very true my friend :-)
And look at how hard it is for man to collect water, and the beavers do it for you.
Mother Nature is an awesome woman! I always look forward to seeing your videos and am never disappointed. Thank you!
Glad you enjoy them my friend. Thank you
Nice video. You have fantastic outlook on life. I wish more people could just step back and appreciate what mother nature has given us.
I wish they would too Alvin.
I've been waiting and waiting for another video and it's finally here!!!
Always nice to see a land owner who knows the value of the wildlife to his land thanks for being one of those keep up the great vids have always enjoyed watching your channel ....being a good steward of the land is a dying art like so many other things in our time
Dying art indeed. Thank you for your kind words.
I'm with you 100% on the whole give and take with nature. It really is so true. By far this is one of my favorite videos you've put together, thank you for posting this. All the best my friend...
Thank you for an informative and appreciative video; never knew much about beavers. Having just built a pumphouse for our property, I can admire their building skills. Truly amazing!
Their ingenuity is remarkable :=)
I always enjoy a good "beaver" story. Makes me feel all fuzzy wuzzy. snicker
Nothing like a fuzzy wuzzy beaver story haha
Truth, "When you give more than you take from Mother Nature, you'll be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams". So happy for the health of your pond. Mine did dry up with the drought here.
Hopefully my beavers will dam up the lower marsh. Then I'll have 2 ponds :-))
Your channel sure is a breath of fresh air
Thank you kindly :-)
Thank you for sharing the wonderful scenery with us🍁🌿🍁🌿🍁🌞
You're welcome :-)
nothing wrong with the fall...nothing at all.👍
good one boss.
I'm so happy that you've the beavers! We've had a terrible dry spell here too, and I'd be thrilled if there were some beavers here. Creek has dried up, river down 75% and only four short periods of rain in over 120 days. Things are seriously messed up! Thanks for a nice, calming video.
It's messed up here too. Most of the marshes in the area are dry. We need more beavers to colonize but everybody shoots them the second they see them. People must like looking at large expanses of mud and brush. I prefer water.
Once saw a bald eagle perched on a wood duck house and peering inside.
It's so nice to see you genuinely happy. It's a rare thing these days.
Thank you Lynn :-))
Great job on the writing and narration JC. You are truly being reward for giving back. Nice to see how the wildlife is benefiting from the pond too. I didn't realize a wild duck would go in a nesting house. Thought that was pretty cool. Learn something new every day i guess. Many thanks as always my friend. Take care.
They are wood duck houses but mergansers will use them too. Lots of life out in the marsh :-))
Thanks for sharing a part of your truly blessed life.
Great video Boss... as usual!
Thank you kindly :-))
Thanks for making a great video. Nice way to put it, "When you give more than you take from Mother Nature, you will be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams"
That parting statement holds more truth than people realize. Cheers :-)
Pure and simple beauty. It doesn't get more peaceful to the soul than nature :-)
Agreed :-)
Man if everyone was like you, the world would be a much better place. God bless.
Thank you for your kind words :-)
wow somehow I just feel different when I watched that. just a calm peaceful feeling. Guess you nailed it! Just can figure out why people dont feel what I do? Guess thats why I dont fit in most places. Well I'm learning to accept it and really enjoying life. Thanks for all you do!
Kenny.
It was really nice to see the beaver's work up close.
Most don't really know much about them except what others complain about their wrecking their ponds or creating marshes where they don't want them.
There is a reason for all God's creatures and if people would just leave them alone, they might just be pleasantly surprised, just like you showed in your video!😊
God Bless🙏
Beavers aren't a good fit for every place they decide to colonize, but in marshland like I have, they are a godsend. It's all about balance. I have 2 other dry marshes they are welcome to fill :-)
Very wise advice - Give more than you take - you’ll be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams
your beaver pond is doing great, nothing like seeing wildlife on your door step.take care
You might want to get a book about the birds of North America. We brought one to my old job, which was on the Pacific Ocean in Washington state. It was really handy for identifying different types of birds, both local and migrating. Get one with color photos and black & white silhouettes. You won't regret it. Another great video, by the way.
I have one and yes they're very helpful indeed.
I should have known! LOL! Anyone who shows as much fondness for the land and the animals in it would probably have one. I appreciate your postings. You have one of the best home diaries on RUclips. Always something to learn or laugh about. Keep up the good work!
Very nice video beautiful scenery, your exactly right it's a give and take world, most want just to take, best of luck always and thanks for sharing your videos.
Thanks for commenting. John :-)
Hi JC. Thanks for sharing. Love your passion for the wild life. Maybe you should give your neighbor a couple of lessons on wildlife and the benefits they provide Enjoy the colors while they last won't be long till you will be seeing a lot of white. Hugs to our Frankie. Blessings. Cheryl from TN
I forgot just how amazing the beaver are and what they can do.
It's too bad they are hated by so many people.
I love the beaver pond. Tummy rubs to Frankieñ
I really enjoy your videos on the beavers, JC. Thanks for continuing to post. I can't
walk very good anymore but I can still watch your videos
you should have a spot on public television, or the Disney channel. you have a gift for storytelling.
Thank you Daniel.
Beautiful scenery there in you back yard. Your a good vidographer. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thank you
thebossoftheswamp Were i live we have Creek called beaver Creek they killed ever beaver in it when they came in .I am like you i let them live on my property.Even my neighbor does also.Thank for pure joy you give me.
You would hope that at least one person that was about to take a beaver 'out', would say 'hey this is "beaver creek", lets let this beaver go and have a good life'. It IS beaver creek!
Another nice fall day on the homestead watching the beaver preparing for winter. Yes sir!!!
You got it :-)
I tried for 5 mins to think of something to say. Your content always just leaves me speechless. Thanks alot.
I take that as a good thing :-))
Another video that touches my heart. JC you are a true gift to those who experience what you offer here. More people need to know about your tremendous art work and the wonderful gifts available at your other site. I went there and plan on doing some Christmas shopping next week that will include prints and stocking stuffers too. When I was looking I saw that next week is your birthday, so I had to write to thank you for all the great things you share in your videos and to wish the happiest of birthdays and another year of joyful bliss in the swamp!
Thank you for your kind words Mark. All the best to you.
Totally in love with this area! Heaven indeed!
I wish I could pick up my homestead and acreage and drop it somewhere else. Then it would be heavenly :-)
Why? Where would you drop it?
Guessing somewhere they don't shoot beaver.
Somewhere more quiet and remote.
Beavers are definetely master engineers. I been trapping for the county for a while and was saddend last week when I had to watch a 50+ year old beaver dam get tore out. It was massive. Around 200 yards long but the really impressive part was it was around 8 ft taller than the lower dam. I will be uploading a video of it myself soon and add it to my trapping videos. I took the beaver out so why not leave this engineering marvel..... Great video Boss.
Beavers are awesome but unfortunately for them, they're not welcome in many places. On acreage like mine, they are a Godsend. They turn my mud and brush into awesome habitat abundant with wildlife and they sure do help to funnel the deer movement. They're fun to watch too. Cheers :=)
If you wanted to harvest some waterfowl, those beavers have made the perfect habitat for them.
Yes indeed :-)
you are the type of guy who should own land near wildlife. well done.
Thank you kindly.
The big white birds are Egrets I believe. Beautiful birds. Watched one track a mouse once, just eyes fixed, so patient and still... then whack! That large pointy beak just hits its target!
Yes indeed. My guide book calls them Egrets but aka white herons as well.
Just got some great shots of a Great Egrets and Herons and Sandhill Cranes. I am on the other side of the US in CA, and the Cranes are coming in to winter close to my home. Consumes River Preserve and directly across the highway, Staten Island Ca Nature Conservancy where the farmers flood their fields for the wintering birds. Great websites to check out and great destinations!
It's true JC and you're a wise man. You can't do bad in the world and think it won't come back to bite you because it surely will. I still sometimes get riled up and want to be the biter is all ;-) I am a lot calmer (cuz I'm a lot older) than I used to be thank goodness!
A person's karma is set by their actions. What comes around - goes around. Always has and always will.
You've got your own little paradise there Jim . You're neighdours sure are a cute bunch . Great vid. Take care.
Thank you Glen. The beavers sure have made it enjoyable out there.
Good video boss! I just had to trap some that kept plugging our road pipes. There is no quit in those critters! We clean out the pipe they build it back every night. We have to trap a few every year. They are an amazing animal for sure! Take care boss!
They certainly don't fit everywhere they decide to colonize, that's for sure. I love having them here though and they certainly help to funnel deer movement :-)))
Morning Boss, Great to see you this morning it always makes my day. I have to agree with you, balance is the key to life and nature. But you can't teach that to everybody. It must be very peaceful to be out on the pond. Enjoy your day my friend. God Bless
Balance is the key for sure buddy but a rarity around here unfortunately.
I love beavers, so cute and work hard to maintain habitats.
Hard workers indeed :=)
Its all about living in harmony. Love it.
Couldn't say it better myself :-))
so enjoyed this.. yes when we give more to mother nature we do get so much more in return
Thank you for your comment :-)
You are truly blessed. Thanks for the vlog. Always enjoy. So peaceful.
Awesome video! I could spent many hours watching that activity. Thanks
I do enjoy it :-)
That's some beautiful footage!!! Your videos help me to relax a lot....I've been training to go to Afghanistan next year and I'm constantly under a ton of stress but your videos relieve me of it. Thank you and God bless!
Stay safe out there man.
Beautiful beautiful! Always nice to see the beaver family. Thanks boss
Love having them here :=)
Ok, in addition to the deep mulch garden, you should also bring your beaver family to the cabin :)
I wish I could bring the whole homestead to the cabin :-)
you are so talented making these videos, another winner, bravo
Thank you my friend.
What can I say Boss, you have a way, yes Sir, you have a way. Take care now.
Thank you my friend.
4,000 views in just 4 hours! I would say you are doing something right! Congratulations!
I certainly get the views but my sub count pokes along. Can't complain I guess. I'll reach my goal eventually :-)
thebossoftheswamp LOL you will see once you get around 60,000 the subs will speed up. Hang in there.
Don't sweat your sub count. Your videos get way more views per sub than many other similar channels that have more subs than you do. This shows that you have a very engaged, loyal audience that continues to come back for the excellent content that you create (the other channels are probably paying for fake subs, which explains why they have high sub numbers but low view counts).
For a channel as "young" as yours, with just under 50,000 subs, getting 20,000 views on a three week old video is AWESOME. Many bigger channels would be jealous at the amount of views and viewer engagement your videos get. Just keep plugging away.
The quality of your content and the amount of comments your videos generate is a great indicator that your channel is healthy and will continue to grow, and the best part is, you are gaining an audience that really enjoys what you do (instead of a bunch of fake subs or trolls like other "bigger" channels).
I always enjoy your videos. Thanks again for your time and effort in making good quality entertainment.
Outstanding. Great to see them doing well and providing a habitat great for other animals and enjoyment for you. God bless!
It's great having them here buddy. Blessings :-)
I rarely watch TV. But I sure like watching your films.
Glad you enjoy them. Thank you
I am so glad you enjoy them and want them around. Like you said they make the place better.
They just need to be controlled. It's all about balance.
Thank you JC. This was a very enjoyable video--the homestead is lovely. It is good to enjoy the wildlife just great. So relaxing.
Thank you Daphne. I appreciate your kind words as always.
So peace full.... reminds me of home...
Thank you all the hard work your doing... My son and I love your channel please keep them coming
Glad you guys enjoy my postings. Thank you
Still Beautiful colors and absolute beauty..Thank you so much..Very Inspiring to watch you!!
The color was great while it lasted but the trees are bare now.
Your absolutely right about giving more then you take!!! Keep up the good work please.
I wish more folks would catch on to that :-)
Absolutely beautiful!! You need to live trap them beavers and bring them to the cabin before you sell it. Lol Maybe they'll do the same thing at the cabin. Your gonna miss the pond. Extremely jealous. There's nothing more relaxing than watching wildlife in it's natural habitat. Especially beaver they are extremely intelligent. Thanks Boss.
The pond is the only thing I will miss but I can find another pond. Marshland for sale everywhere :-))
Your videos are among my favourite on RUclips. I look forward to your Christmas cabin video every year now. Frankie does too I bet! Great job on the cabin this summer. It looks great. Greetings from the Emerald Isle.
Happy to hear that John. Thank you. I'm running out of ideas for Christmas vids :-o
I watched it with a smile on my face the whole time. Thank you for sharing
Smiling is good :-D
+Thebossoftheswamp I love to hunt and trap also. But I never do anything around my land I love looking at the beautiful wildlife myself. I go out 15 or 20 miles away from my land to hunt. I want the animals to feel safe knowing nothing goes on where they play and rest makes my life better seeing those beautiful wildlife animals not being scared. Great video as always...
I wish more folks had the appreciation you do. Well done my friend.
Your right about the give and take part. It's to bad so many people just take, its a very small thing for the beaver to just want to be left alone. But for some that's to much to expect I guess.
Keep up the good work!
I certainly feel for them.
The Mrs. and I enjoyed this video greatly!
Happy to hear that. Thanks.
Was staying in a hotel and not up the mountain at home so I got to watch this in HD. It was a great video to watch in HD. Gorgeous photography, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Kevin. Glad you enjoyed it.
There is an angel over your left shoulder @ 1:06 ; ) The geese flew right by it. Maybe the white herons are actually snowy egrets? May you reap the rewards of all you've given to your subscriber's. We appreciate all your effort in making videos to share with us. God Bless.
God Bless :-)
I love beaver marshes and ponds...IMHO they increase the amount of wildlife and they copping trees for future growth.
Agreed.
The beaver are absolutely fascinating!!
agreed :=)
Well said, I wish more people had your attitude about the wild life. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work....
Me too Keith. I harvest my share but provide for the rest. It's all about balance.
Amazing creatures. I certainly share your respect for these animals.
Although I enjoy trapping these animals, I will never clean them out, nor will I bother them if they are not bothering anyone else.
Great video.
Regards
Mark
Beavers sure can be destructive and they're not a good it for every place they decide to colonize. Up here though, they are hated and I get calls to remove them and most of the times it's just from empty muddy marshland like what I have here. Filling it with water makes it so much more enjoyable, all species of wildlife flock to it and the ponds funnel deer and improve the hunting. I'll take the beaver over mud and brush any day :-))
EVERY THING IS SO BEAUTIFUL LOVE WATCHING THE BEAVERS BUILD THERE HOMES I LOVE WATCHING THE WILD LIFE WE HAVE A LOT OF WILD LIFE ON OUR FARM HERE IN TENN, THANK YOU FOR SHARING WISH YOU WOULD DO MORE VIDEOS MISS YOU.
Wish I could post more often but the editing takes a lot of time.
thanks for the upload J.C they're always there when i need em the most ! thanks bud !
Great animals those Beavers
I really enjoyed that. It's like national geography for the regular Joe. Keep up the good work Boss and cheers till the next one!
That could be my new channel name. "Regular Joe geographic" haha
Beautiful video, great commentary. I love ur channel. Hearing you talk about the beavers and your, ungrateful to nature neighbor, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for doing what you do...
Thank you my friend :-)
Harmony!!! Cheers to that.
A large screen over the culvert may be the enough to keep the beavers
from swimming into the danger zone. Cheers Boss!
That works sometimes but most of the time they walk up and around it. They are so hated up here it's sickening.
I have a healthy respect for wildlife. Like you, I enjoy the antics and carrying ons of all the critters. I also enjoy growing and hunting meat for the family. You really opened my eyes to just how important a role these critters play in this world. After seeing the footage of the pond being built and maintained, I just really understand how we must live in harmony and balance with all critters. Cheers Boss from way up here in Canada, the land of the beaver Yessir,
Harmony is a balance of giving and taking. Yessah :-))
Nice thanks for sharing
You're welcome and thanks for commenting :-)
Thanks for the update Boss. ....enjoyed that. ...keep 'em comin'.
Will do John. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for sharing Boss, it is a beautiful time of year to be outdoors. God bless you my friend.
Thank you and blessings to you as well.
Really beautiful scenery
Thanks for the updates, your 'show' is very good. I like the idea of letting nature gather water for you. We should work with nature, not against it. I gave you a thumbs up. I like your inspirational comments. Like giving more than you take, and being rewarded. Thank You, and please keep it up.
Thank you for your comment :-)
Way back in the '60s I had several courses in land/forest/wildlife management. What you have put forth in these vids is EXACTLY what the professors were teaching about proper management of our natural environment. Coming from N. California where some of the tree huggers were a real pain in the *** the one picture that stuck in my mind was a radical from L.A. standing on an old stump decrying the logging of virgin forests (like how did that stump get there?). Proper use of our natural resources, the management of our environment, allows nature to maintain balance. Thank you so very much for displaying the development of this concept of balance in this and ALL of your vids. This ranges from your positive approach to trapping to the cutting of the Maple to feed the deer...I just wish I could have snagged some of the Maple for bowl blanks in my woodturning business. BZ my friend!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Earl. All the best.
Simply awesome!! I can watch these videos all day.......
Thank you. Wish I could make them more often.
BRILLIANT!!!!!!
Thanks brother.
Truly blessed...absolute joy. Thank you for this wonderful ride through nature and sharing your observations.
It's fun to film and fun to share. Not so fun to edit though :-)
Nice video... To bad more land owners don't see things the way you do... Happy beaver watching..
I wish they would. Beavers don't have a chance up here.
