MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
Video of icebox:

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Love the mood in your video. Always looking forward to your videos and seeing what you and Frankie comes up with.
Nice to hear that. Thanks for saying so.
Once again JC, a great video, thank you.
Beautiful day. Beautiful Frankie. Just a beautiful video! :)
Frankie looks like he’s in mourning for the bunny that was taken away. We know he’s a kind soul and a loving little guy. He knows what happened there. He was saying a prayer for the little fellow. Boss, it’s awesome to watch you spot the tracks. Probably why Frankie shares his bunk with you, no matter how muddy he is lol. My friend, God bless you and yours! Thanks for sharing your wonderful life with us!
Nothing like being in the woods in the winter!!! Good video boss!!! Before we know it the leaves will be turning again!!
Frankie is a deep thinker !
Nice video boss. You speak from the heart as the morning begins with all of the animals carrying on their daily habits untouched by man & for you to enjoy. Yessur!!! Enjoy the great life you have.
Another awesome video. The cabin property is beautiful. Thanks for sharing this.
Man,You made a good life for yourself J C...I only wish I could live like that,Love to watch your vids over and over.all the best and take care!!!
Each day an adventure. New every morning.
Yep. Another Dandy. Thanks again for posting.
Seeing you in this video sure reinforces my choice to move to Florida. I love many things about winter in Michigan, where I was living most of my life. But moving the snow from my roof and driveway was causing me a great deal of pain. I now live along the Suwanee river. And for the most part enjoy it. I do miss breathing that cold crisp air, and the ice in my beard. Thanks for what you do my friend, and kiss Franky for me.
Thanks JC... I love your explanations of what's happened in the woods and along the edges of the beaver pond...
Thanks buddy :-)
Serenity and peacefulness. Loved the icicles.
you gotta love Frankie's personality !
Most definitely :-)
Lol....... frankies face! Gotta love it, what picture, lovely dog. Thx
I'd love to see more videos like this one - sharing knowledge. ;) Hope you and Frankie are doing well!
Happy to hear that because I have lots of footage :-)
Once upon a time........Happily ever after.
I am really starting to feel the energy you are giving off.
I can feel that you are finding the path that was chosen, or
that you chose. I look at things very similar.
I have followed your channel for some time now.
Yessir, for some time now, indeed. Good times!
Cheers Boss!
Frankie's look in the truck was funny..like he was ashamed, sad or in deep thought. LOL. I love your knowledge of all the critter tracks...very interesting. The frost icicles on the beaver lodge were pretty and really cool to see. THANK You! :)
Love seeing the critters myself I had a couple run-ins with the minks in my rabbit cages also got a fisher cat running around here got a couple shots of him on a trail camera pretty cool stay warm brother
you gotta love winter, one of the best times to be outside, no mosquitoes no ticks.
Agreed :-)
once again amazing. . .72 years old and never had a tick bite (knock on wood) must be they don't like my Italian blood or maybe I laced it with too much bourbon ha ha ha.
Very relaxing and informative to watch what a perfect combo I love these types
Thanks buddy :-)
Another enjoyable video, JC. Looking forward to the next one. :)
Thank you
your vids are always so enjoyable. lightens the soul.
A remember ,lifetime ago in Korea , receiving an issue parka with the fur ruff. One of the guys asked this old sarge what kind of fur was it made of? He quickly replied that it was amalgamated rat. We were all kids and believed him. I suppose some of those guys still do. Love your channel. Thanks.
Very informative on identifying the different animal tracks and the thin ice around Beaver lodges, thank you.
You're welcome :-)
Always good to see you and Frankie :)
👍👍 on the vid. looked like Frankie was thinking ( come on dad, what the hell are we doing out here in this freezing cold when we could be in by the wood stove!! ) LOL😆😆
LOL :-D
Frankie reminded me of my son when he was little and he had to wait for me to finish some chore. He made sure I knew he was bored! Thanks for showing and explaining about the animal tracks. I know nothing about that stuff but it's interesting to see. Keep the video coming.
Frankie has a some crazy expressions sometimes.
Reminding me of my younger days, living in my cabin's at one point in the mountains of California, up hwy 88 in Jackson County, then a bit later in the mountains above Albuquerque, loving the wildlife and the living there. Getting to much in age now, have to be closer to the city limits, but living vicariously through you and a few others makes my days...TY...Give Frankie hugs from my girls (Cats, Dallas and Diva) Diva was the watcher of this video today and meowed when he had that face on him, think she was worried...LOL
Nothing short of AMAZING!!!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to show people all the intresting things that animals do in the wild.Frankie is priceless sitting there.
I think that's the first time I seen him pout hahaha
Good day my friend... I love all of your videos .. your lifestyle...your wonderful dogs. Frankie is a real character -too bad man’s best friend never lives long enough...The wilderness is beautiful.. the maple trees in our area are in real trouble...don’t know what is being done about it...I love our NH maple syrup..I have always loved NH...thank you for being such an incredible artist to touch on all of the beauty around us...there isn’t anything I dislike about anything you present to your audience. Thank you JC my husband and I consider you, momma, and your two best friends part of our family. Take care of yourself and keep sending your video journals, your thoughts and dreams to us. 🥳
Enjoyable, as always. Glad you shared. Tracking is a fun hobby, and can be pretty important out in the bush. Take care.
When you were pointing to the Beaver Lodge, your glove looked like a beaver. Nice video JC. Thanks.
Really nice video. Animal identification is a great skill to have for so many reasons from just enjoying nature and seeing what's going on around you to survival skills for hunting and tracking. I enjoyed this one Boss and cheers till the next one!
Reading the snow seeing what your "neighbors" are up to. Very cool, figuratively & literally.
No deer tracks? Good one Boss, yessah....& thank you.
I had boatloads of sign footage but I'll save it for another video. Lots of deer out there :-)
You make thousands of people happy every time a new video comes out, myself included.Thank you...Im finishing a cabin in the u.p. of Michigan, inspired by you in part-God BLESS -
Outstanding video JC. The wife and I enjoyed it immensely!
Very beautiful and informative!
You truly live a charmed life ... Thanks for taking me along with you and Frankie ... Give him a scratch behind the ears for me God bless ...
God Bless :-)
Thanks J.C. and Frankie! I always enjoy your videos.
Man you do bring back a lot of memories. When I was a kid I used to do this with my beagle Molly in Upstate NY 40 miles south of Rochester. Happy that I found your channel! :)
Welcome to my channel Iam :-)
Love this video. You have such a pretty and peaceful looking place. Frankie looked like he might have been thinking about that bunny. Lol. He is always so cute!!
He did act as though he was worried for the bunny.
Frankie was upset because you made him stay in the car, poor little furry child! Boy! that face! He's got some acting chops that Frankie! So beautiful JC, the solitude, quiet and panoramic beauty. You definitely know what's going on in your "neighborhood" there, that was very interesting. Nice peaceful way to start my day. Thanks JC!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood ha ha. Flashbacks from Mt Rogers :-D
Love Frankie. JC, I just got a couple of puppies to take to my own cabin. When I get some video of them up on my channel I`ll let you know!
What kind?
Cool. Nice to have pups around.
You don't see that stuff in the city . I think Frankie was a little upset about that coyote being on his property lol . Great vid. , take care .
I remember as a kid having hoar frost on the inside of my bedroom window, very pretty but very cold. I love the little things in life like a pink/purple sun rise-sun set. These things are free for the taking, like a walk in the bush.😊
Those frosted windows were quite the site. The colder the air, the prettier the scene :-)
I'll be thinking about you on my hour drive to work in the morning from Lakeland to Orlando Florida. thumbs up once again
Beautiful insight today! To me, this must be close to heaven!
Another good video.its a real pleasure for me to follow frankie and yourself.i thank you once again.
Thanks John :-)
Your right about winter it does have it,s moments
Another awesome video... poor Frankie didn't look too happy!
Jim, are you trapping this winter? Frankie is just priceless. Your communication is awesome. He's developed quite a vocabulary , like "Go get me a beer", "Bring me the kindling". I've got a big Whippet. He understands "Cookie" and "Numnumers" and "Dinner". I guess I have failed him!
That shot of Frankie is priceless. Thanks for another wonderful video.
Thank you for your efforts, we love all your videos
What a beautiful sky! God's handiwork is gorgeous! As you can see I was behind in my watching, I've been having more health issues and a prayer would be appreciated. Another fabulous video. Hugs and blessings my friend.
Prayers on the way my friend :-)
I busted out loud laughing at Frankie's expression. He sure has a big personality. Great video, thanks for posting it.
Lots of personality there.
Thanks JC, I did not realize that porcupines are tree dwellers. Given their size and shape they always appeared to be ground dwellers to me. Thanks for another great video!
So glad I subscribed to your videos. They have been a blessing. After we get home from work, we hear our phones ding, and we check on it, and Yaaayyy, you stopped by to visit again, and tell us more about your cabin life, and living in the woods. Love all your videos, and really enjoyed your new updated one we just watched and thoroughly enjoyed, " Cabin Life, Woods Lore, and Tracks " . Thankyou sooo much for your videos, and shareing your life with you in the woods.
Thank you for your kind words my friend :-)
I can relate. I love walking around my property looking for tracks. We have a big male black bear that comes through our place quite a bit. It's interesting to see which parts of our place he likes to visit. So much goes on during the night. Although, he has been known to pass through here during the day, too...sometimes a little too close for comfort. Enjoyed your video as always.
I love your videos they are very therapeutic for me. I see how much you "feel" the beauty around you and I feel it too. It's a moving experience that is truly a gift to the soul. I'm still working on getting my little piece of paradise. Your videos keep me centered and inspire me to never give up. Truly grateful. You are quite a blessing to my life. God's continued blessings upon you and yours.
Thank you Andrea. Best of luck with your plans :-)
Another good, informative video!
JC there's one question I have always wanted to ask. When you made your very first video, did you ever think that it would lead to what it is today? Your videos are not only enjoyable and informative, over the years you have become mentor to so many people chasing after their dreams. I think most importantly of all, the only way so many of the viewers will ever be able to live out those dreams, is vicariously through your videos. Quite an undertaking you took on years ago. And a job well done my friend . . . .
I will be talking about how I got started in this as well as how I got my channel name. Contrary to common belief, I don't consider myself the "boss" of anything, not even Frankie lol but once I started, I continued on with it. You Tube has been frustrating at times but it's been fun and I've made a lot of friends along the way. Cheers :-)
Thanks for the update hope frankie cheers up and cleans his paws before bed time
Man, I enjoyed the video. So educational
Frankie was a hoot in the Jeep. Perfect video! Always enjoy the animal sign in the woods. Nature can be a great movie to watch and you don't have to buy a ticket. some beautiful footage too.
Thanks for sharing - cheers 👍🏻
Good day to y'all. Happy trails. Cheer up Frankie. Lol
Merci le boss de la swamp, tes paroles sonne comme la prose ou un peut poésie, bon choix de musique, belle images, et surtouts tes connaissances et habiletés, donne un câlin a Franklin. Salut !
I tell everyone about your videos. There are nuggets of wisdom strewn among every video. Like you often say out here in the woods you have to keep your eyes and ears open. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the walking and talking videos. You point out things that most people would just walk right past
Glad you enjoy them Jodi and thank you for saying so :-)
Amazing 53+ years of doin probably what I needed to do, but didn't want to. Well accept for my Navy stint 4+ years of that, quite a growing up experience. I used to get a chuckle out of the homesick dudes, funny I loved my family but never got homesick.
I Envy you Boss. . .nutthin like cabin life, took me a long time to get here. Retired now and living the life man. With some of your ideas, etc I can work at the off grid lifestyle, don't know if I'll ever be totally off grid, but one can make it a goal I guess. God Bless you my friend, especially in your new endeavors can't wait for the new stuff.
It was nearly 40 degrees here in Wisconsin on Monday. I love your winter videos so much, another great one here Boss. Glad the Beavers are having a healthy winter. I watch a lot of RUclips videos and usually about halfway through most of them I'm looking at how much time is left wishing it was over, with your videos I find myself really bummed as the time ticks away. That's a huge testament to you my friend.......and to your crazy sidekick too. Thanks for your commitment to your subscribers. Cheers.
Happy to hear that my friend. I appreciate your encouraging words :-)
Boy you hit the nail on the head with the RUclips videos. . .far, far too much "BS" computers and "TV" are big time time-chewers. Happy to have the computer though or we wouldn't be aware of the Boss.
Beautiful, a gorgeous sunrise. Mother nature's beauty is phenomenal. The woods are definitely a peaceful place one can tune into a show like no other. I bet Frankie has a wonderful time. Thank you for sharing spectacular wonder. :)
Frankie surely enjoys his life. No doubt about that.
That look on Frankie's face was so funny. ....lol. ...I wonder what that was all about.
He must of been worried for the bunny lol
Gorgeous view.... Frankie was scared, he smelled the coyote. Thanks for sharing
I've been watching current political news. I turned to you're channel to get feeling happy again. Frankie is a piece of work, a real cool character.
Wow. That sunrise is the BEST reason I'VE ever seen for moving to the East. We have sunSETS like that in the West sometimes.
The west definitely has the best sunsets.
Great video, Boss. You could post three of these every day as far as I'm concerned; you have a lot to teach, and a very entertaining way to teach it.
God bless
Ron
Thank you my friend. God Bless.
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS!!! YOU ARE THE BEST AT MAKING RUclips VIDEO'S, YOU ARE A NATURAL!!! CONGRATS :)
Thank you Mia, I appreciate that :-)
Thank you for another wonderful video🎈
Enjoyed it, thank you Boss
another great vid thanks
I learned a lot from this vid, Boss. Enjoyable and informative as ever. I had no idea that porcupine climbed trees! That would be a real wake-up call if one took a tumble! ha! Frankie didn't look too happy with you for leaving him in the truck while you tracked the yote, but it was a good call for his safety. You're an inspiration my friend. ONE DAY...
You know, I had a really crappy day at work today... This was the pick me up I needed....
Glad you enjoyed it Johnny. All the best.
Peaceful winter's walk the snow shows all of the critters movement, very nice video, no bugs to deal with, Best of Luck always and thanks for sharing your videos.
Wouldn't be as enjoyable with bugs everywhere :-x
The beaver will be coming out onto the ice this month as their feed beds get stale and the sun gets warmer. I always like the end of Feb. as the signs of spring start to happen. Nice job on the video! Terry
I agree. Love those first signs of spring.
great day for a trip in the woods, there are a few animals around.i think Frankie couldn't wait to get to the cabin.take care
Always a few critters moving about :-)
Interesting as always Boss, had to laugh the look on Frankie's face was priceless...
Frankie's just plain crazy. Love that dog.
Very nice video. Headed out next weekend to Elmore Vt for 3 days two nights of winter camping. Would like to take our dog but she's pretty much attached to my youngest son's hip. That's a very good thing. Take care, Al
My best sub ever I look forward to all of your vids. Common sense , Frankie , life in the woods . You have the best part of two worlds God Bless
Thanks Mark and God Bless.
Sitting in bed with my cup of coffee watching your latest video. A good morning indeed :)
I love the jacket...Frankie looks cold to. lol. What I would do to see snow like that. Thank you for another great video. Hug Frankie for me..
Thanks for sharing your knowledge I love learning about tracks and animals, and ice. Wish my father had an interest in that stuff. I'll be sure to share it with my kids. Stay warm and safe
