    We can use double stroke roll with our hands why not with the feet too? I think this is a good technique 👌

    It's really not about cheating for me. It's more that I don't feel the satisfaction and energy that single strokes gives me. But with very high tempo's over longer periods, it makes everything so much more easy.
    All that matters in music, is what comes out of the speaker's in the end. But I think a lot of heal toe drummers are struggling a little when playing live. The time between the stroke's is easy getting like two strokes from the right foot and a very short break and then two strokes with the left. It's not much, but I believe that during an entire concert I'll be able to tell if the drummer is using heal toe or not.
    I think it's actually much harder to really master heal toe than people think.

      I can tell triggers definitely carry a lot of this. And quantization in recordings. That is why past 2018 fir me all recordings have none of it just got better gear on my pedals and focused on making sure it is tighter. Nowadays I track an album and there might be an off hit kick or something that can be deleted but 99% of the performance is me with only eq

    • @ShaolinLambKiller
      @ShaolinLambKiller 10 месяцев назад +2

      @masterblaster1329 alright I'll tell all my labels that. I mean I don't understand the idea of why I need to practice more when I could be heard over half stacks. And like I said I don't consider it cheating I was giving the explanation of why people consider it that. Because I've heard both sides I played shows where my drums were triggered out I just don't personally own any

      One thing that some heel toe players do is overuse fast double bass, as your not limited by your stamina that much. Pretty annoying in some bands imo

  • @ericdetablan7041

    this is not cheating
    it is A preference.
    and everyone is entitled to a different style of using their feet.
    I use heal toe on my right foot at times when I don't need my left foot. I use my left foot with doubles or heel toe on my hi hat most of the time.
    When I use both feet on both my bass drum pedals, I'm usually using ankle technique, single strokes.
    at times, I will use both bass drum pedals with only a heel toe on my right foot with my left foot, adding different types of patterns single stroke.
    this is only my opinion.
    And I am sorry if I have offended anybody.
    I love you.

    It's cheating if it automatically gives you the skill to achieve the technique and use it flawlessly. Heel Toe is one of the hardest things to learn, but it's also hard NOT to play heel toe when you finally get it locked in your muscle memory.

  • @jbenrn
    @jbenrn 3 месяца назад +1

    Double strokes on bass drums are essentially the same things as double strokes with sticks aka the long stroke roll. If the long stroke roll is one of the 13 (or 26) standard rudiments, how can double strokes with pedals be considered cheating. It's just a different technique.

  • @RationalGaze216
    @RationalGaze216 Месяц назад

    When I try to do sustained double strokes on the kick, it sounds great at like 120-140, but once I get up above 150, the second note on each foot starts to sound really weak. But oddly, if I'm only doing it with one foot I can stay very solid, but as soon as I add in doubles on the other foot, it all goes to hell. Which doesn't really seem to make sense.

  • @ShaolinLambKiller
    @ShaolinLambKiller 11 месяцев назад +3

    Never felt it was cheating just not satisfying to me from doing just heel up and heel down exclusively and changing as I felt. Never focusing on technique just tracking albums.

      It’s a loose term. Watch any drummer using the technique. Aaron stechauner, Austin archery, Dave mcgraw, Anthony barone, David diepold, etc. very rarely are their entire foot on the board. (I’m a size 11 and my entire foot can’t even fit on my pedals).
