    The most difficult part of a team to set up is the midfield because that where a lot of transitions happens and that why xavi has to get the line up right in every match I think what we need right now is someone that can control the midfield which is what xavi himself offered us as a player

    • @codedprofessor
      @codedprofessor Год назад +18

      De Jong is capable of doing just that. He needs to calm down though, improve his on-the-ground passing range, and decide the best way to control the game at every point in time - either to carry the ball and break lines or slow things down.

      @@codedprofessor Agree and there's alot of pressure on him as he's expected to step into Busquet's shoes. Often, I've noticed he gives away possession (usually through a bad pass) and doesn't follow up to win it back. I get that he's more an offensive player but he needs to work on those areas. I suppose that's why we've been keen on signing Bernado Silva because he'll bring stability to that midfield.

    This would open up a lot of space for the wingers upfront and while CBs are focused on Lewa. Gavi and Pedri can sneak in behind

  • @DarthwRath
    @DarthwRath Год назад +53

    This is gonna be a bit of a long rant.
    I still feel like we don't push hard on goals. We always seem to take the foot off the pedal after scoring 1 goal. That's too risky against the best of Europe and we have seen enough of what could happen with that. Sure, I understand Lewandowski's absence is huge but come on, we have to take more risks.
    I know we can pass. I know our flanks are much better now compared to few seasons ago. Our defense is statistically one of the best now and that's huge due to Araujo's return, Kounde and Christensen addition and young Balde.
    But we still play too safe once we score. And i agree with Xavi, the unnecessary passing back to MATS needs to be lessened.
    The back 3 formation works quite well and it does free up Balde and our right wing back. Plus reinforcements on midfield is a good thing. Pedri always seems half dead after 90 minutes. Gavi's intensity and chemistry with Pedri is consistently good and De Jong can play as a CM, a position he's been playing most in our kit.
    I guess that's the problem of being a Barça fan born 2 decades ago. We grew up spoiled with majestic tactical football and technical geniuses and we always want to repeat that (Pep, Tito and Lucho's era).
    We are getting better. But there is soooo much more to improve on and with these young squad, one should understand why that's the overall feel for this team. We have to challenge the title for Europe's best and get there ASAP.
    It's been 7 years since we won the UCL. That's unacceptable for a club like us.
    Visca Barça!

    @DavidJones-vy6cn Год назад +15

    Another great analysis. In reference to not being aggressive enough, especially after taking the lead, I wonder since we have so many very young players, it’s simply a matter of them being afraid of making a bad mistake. Veteran players need to constantly encourage them during the game. Maybe that’s not happening.

    I keep seeing people saying Pedri should play more forward and expect him to be like an attacking midfielder 10 role, I think this just stems from his low numbers (g/a) contribution, however he is clearly class and I think as an 8/controller setting the tempo and providing hockey assists he is much better at this and since it's really hard to find a good one like this, that's his ideal position if you think about iniesta he never had as much as a goal output for barca or spain yet it was clear many times when he was the dominant midfielder, I think people nowadays are just obsessed with stats more

    love this. As a Barca fan I was also not buying the formation that was shown at the start of the game. this is more accurate. the game felt much different, barca midfield was much more solid. i like the gavi deeper role option especially because he is a work horse and goes to get recoveries. this will be great against counter attacking teams which get away from gavi now after the first attacking midfield pass. One concern that I see now is we have inverted wingers who try to cut in which causes 2 problems, first that crowds the central areas and we lose width/space and secondly they dont play enough good crosses on the ground or early through passes which would serve the striker and two attacking mids much better. i honestly think if this formation ends up working well barca should promote a right wingers from Barca B or look for a young player who has the ability to run the channels well and is trigger happy at making crosses and through passes with accuracy. for now the closes we have here is ferran who xavi also used successfully on the right wing at times. busquets still needs a replacement as frenkie is great overall but defensively he is not as good as busquets used to be imo

    It's fine to defend a lead but we should know when to punish loose defending with sharp offensive play. This has been our one biggest issue for some time. Its what Bayern did with us in the first leg: We dominated the play but they defended well and attacked sharp and decisively. That's what Europe's elite call a bad game(when they don't control the game fully). Inter did it too but against our then weaker defense
    At least now we have a reliable defense compared to before where we'd sit back and give smaller teams late equalizers/wins. Such pointless passes and going back too much are what make tiki taka seem irrelevant.

    Is it wrong to assume that we can still play a 4-3-3 with Pedri-De Jong-Gavi. Then have Pedri and De Jong play like a double pivot kinda where if one moves up the other drops. Pretty much just Pedri and De Jong looking out for each other with Gavi playing closer to the ST. This kinda makes sense to me but I’m not too sure if it’d work out. Thoughts?

  • @jonathanm9069
    @jonathanm9069 Год назад +1

    I see it more as a 4231 with Pedri on the left, Gavi on the center and Dembele on the right.
    Pedri justs goes inside so Balde goes up to fill the left side, similar to the role of Zidane and Roberto Carlos in the Galacticos era.
    Kounde on the right back acts more defensively than Balde to balance things out (but still goes up a few times too).
    The problem I see with this is that Busi & De Jong are kind of weak defensively and De Jong still suffers against top tier teams.

      Also, Lewandowski is a legend, but historically Barça plays better with a fast striker. It’s a shame injuries have destroyed Ansu's explosiveness, he could have been our striker for years.

    Barca could have really dictated the game if Balde & FDJ was on top of their game. Balde seems to be caught in between the offensive and tracking back role. He wasn't making any progressive passes at all.
    I think this system is stable against 2 CF opponents, with Lewa back, we could really play well. At this formation demands more of a Alba kinda Left back than Balde. Because Alba is still among the best when it comes to offensive role.

    I definetly agree with your analysis because in the end the team isn't playing at its best right now because we played with so many young players. Sometimes they don't make the right decisions or the brave decsion and play conservative and they were losing a lot of sily balls as well. Xavi can do thing more than drill it into their heads for another 1 or 2 seasons until they grow and mature as footballers and make better decisions on the ball. It's like watching arsenal 2 yrs ago when all their young players where 19 and 20. Balde, pedri, Gavi, ansu all of them where losing so many silly balls and even frenkie for some reason had a bad game himself and was giving away balls. We have to wait for these players to mature and there is no point in blaming Xavi for that.

    I do personally think Gavi and de Jong as the double pivot with Pedri as an attacking midfielder could work. I think this also solves the issue of Raphinha in the team. He likes to cut inside. And if he has Pedri and Lewandowski to combine with, that could prove effective. Of course, we could use a right back who can bomb forward when he does, but I would like to see it.

    Since Fati has recovered from injuries, it seems to me that he doesn't shift and sprint as much now, probably to avoid getting ACL or higher sprain ankle if tackled. With this in mind, I'd love for Xavi to experiment Fati playing inside the box more, like how Ronaldo or Haaland does it. He definitely has the instinct to look for open spaces, it's just the final finishing touch that he needs to practice more. With Lewy being able to pass the ball well, he could pull back a bit to clear space for Fati or Dembele at wings, and can also rotate to inside the box when needed. Idk maybe I'm asking too much of Fati but I think there is a huge ceiling here if we can pull it off.

      His destructive prowess might help Frenkie move forward more and Gavi do less defensive work while improving his overall game. His price would have risen by 10 million after the world cup. I reckon with 50-60m we can get him. He's also 26 while Frenkie is 25. Just perfect

      We just need a form of solidity in midfield while Frenkie is given full freedom to cause havok in attack as he did in Ajax with Pedri threading the right passes for the goals. If they get past our front press including Frenkie, They'd have to face Ambrabat who defended with his life, and if they get past him, then the face Araujo, Kounde, Christensen.

    Memphis would’ve been the perfect 2nd half sub for Ansu, not Ferran. The option for ‘hold up play’ would’ve given us the opportunity for direct ball from MAtS. With Raphinha on the right and Dembele left there would be potential for them to run in behind the defence. Pretty much a nail in the coffin for Memphis - he clearly has no role in this squad.

    I do not entirely agree with the idea of Pedri playing so offensively. I think he tends to “shine” and add more to the game when playing in Frenkie’s position, perhaps somewhat more to the left side. Of course, intermittently reaching the box is great, but not constantly. Pedri’s impressive game vision can be exploited entirely only at more defensive or playmaking positions… Great video and analysis, greetings!
