    You might want to swap that powerstrip for a heavier built one. The cheap ones tend to melt and catch fire under heavy power loads. Also arrange the cords by most power demanding to lease power demanding. Place the most power demanding cord in the power strip closest to the powerstrips cord. In theory since the largest amount of power will have the least distance to cover it should reduce how much heat it produces moving that power.

    All I got are tips moving forward. It is way easier to terminate to keystone jacks when they are not on the patch panel, and you can use a flat head to easily pop them out from the back.
    It also helps to get a nice label maker and print in small font, then trim the excess to get some neat labels for each of the little ports, and you can flag the cable itself.

      probably works in IT one way or another, hard to tell beyond that as this was nothing crazy, but also not wrong or bad in any way, just at a small scale and relatively simple. appropriate for his needs nonetheless.

    I've been wanting to do something similar. Setup a PC to run proxmox with pfesnse, some nas distro and a debian server install for game servers.

      Use intel. Unless you are buying epyc cpus.

    • @nate_river_
      @nate_river_ Год назад

      You can do it that way, but I like to have a totally separate box for pfSense, and then a Proxmox host behind it. IMO it makes it a little safer and easier to manage things if the firewall is physically isolated from everything else.

    Nice video, Robbaz! Small critique: I'm not an expert, but if those vents you installed at the end are to get hot air to _exit_ the closet, I would turn the metal vents around so the fins are facing up, not down, like at 8:10. Since hot air will rise, shoving the hot air _up and out_ instead of _down, then up, then out_ the heat being removed won't try to "fight" to get back into the area it was just removed from. Again, not an expert or anything, I might be wrong, but I think it could offer a small improvement. Otherwise really great job. :)
