  • Clark 667C skidder. Another day to look at forestry and logging equipment! I got a chance to check out these three Clark Ranger 667 log skidder's. These old machines are in various stages of repair, between running a 667c, and two others, a 667c and 667b . These grapple skidders have different engines. The two 667c's have Detroit Diesel 6V53 engines, and the 667b has a v6 Cummins engine. I think these were a 555 nicknamed the triple nickle ? I tried to find the years these machines were built, but surprisingly there was very little information to be found. I think these were manufactured from early 1970s through around 1980.
    Thinking about buying one to salvage and use the axles on my Hood slasher. Having 2 working planetary axles with 24.5 x 32 forestry tires under the slasher would make it work well in the bush without the increased risks of damage due to driving over stumps and snags.

    Running a 667 daily for far too long to be reasonable has made me deeply appreciate the steering lever over a wheel, having the blade controls and your steering together takes a little to get used to but not having to move your hands to fully control the machine is a godsend when operating all day. The only downside is that for me to turn to the right fully my had leaves the can and has been hit quite a few times by branches when I was looking the other way. Definitely wouldn’t trade it for a wheel though. Personal preference I guess. Or stockholmed into it.. unsure

      I think once a guy's used to it things would be good. Climbing on the first time is odd. I ran off the trail a couple times running one moving it between sites.

    Actually if you operate one of these with the lever steer, you’ll be ready to chunk a steering wheel down the hill. They are much more comfortable to operate especially on those long days. You do not have to be reaching for the steering wheel and much less movement/effort to steer it. No steering wheel also gives you more space. That’s just my opinion, but I can honestly say “don’t knock it until you try it”.

      Makes sense my friend! For me, I've only driven one like that a couple times short enough that neither direction felt like it made sense.
      My father's old Franklin skidder he replaced the steering wheel with a rectangular shaped one with a regular hydraulic valve. Small, strong enough to hang onto, and natural movement for controlling it.
      Those Clarks certainly have enough space for the operator.

    Thank you for doing this video, I love seeing the old forestry equipment. I prefer the narrow tires as well.

      I was considering trying to buy them all, but in reality don't need any. The broke down c with the 6v53 is my pick, it's got all 4 planetarys as long as the tires would hold air.
      We'll see I guess. Not like I don't already have too many machines and projects..

    I gotta have a steering wheel. I'd feel like I didn't have control lol. Guys like you are always looking for a project. I'm the same , " do I need it, NO, do I want it YES. The wife will always make the right choice, as far as she knows!! As always, all the best to everyone!

      Yes it's odd-WRONG to be driving something with a lever beside you that's not a joystick.
      As for collection of projects, is it too much ambition? Brain damage? Not enough sense? I can't speak for you, but maybe those would describe me sometimes..
      I haven't even shown all the current projects I already have!

    Once you get use to the steering being beside the seat you,d enjoy what that machines capable of.

      I ran a timberjack with the steering like ghat for a bit once 25 years ago. - certainly not long enough to get used to it.
      They are certainly good machines and have pulled out a lot of trees over the years.

    When you first walked up on the 2 skidders next to each other I first thought the one without the rad was a 3208 Cat.

      I wasn't sure what I would find when I got there. All I knew was there was supposed to be 3 skidders.
      Always more potential projects than possible to accomplish.

      Well my friend, I'm a gold standard professional at collecting projects. I already have 4 skidders in my yard, so I'm not exactly short on supply... I need to make a video of all the diesel engines I have, or even one with all the Detroit ones.. but I hear you. I was thinking about hauling all 3 home buying from the previous land owner, but too late now.

      @@localcrew that thing started great! I had one similar vintage. ( will have to go back through your videos for a better look) mine had a gas 6 cyl Waukesha.

      @@lovesloudcars This one is like 1960 or so. 35-A model. You could get these with the Waukesha gas or DD screamer. Mine has the full-on brake package - air over hydraulic. Could be that all the DD powered units had air system cause the compressor is an easy addition. These also came with straight hydraulic brakes with no boost.

      I had to watch it again! YUP you're right on that one hey? Reminds me of my cousin Russel's 71 Monte Carlo that sucker had a fan shroud about 2 feet long.
