Timberjack gets new exhaust & how to operate

- The Ol Timberjack had to get a new exhaust, the old one just started to plug up and cause all kinds of problems. She sounds better than ever now! The pulp market in Maine is really struggling and that means a lot more planning and sorting wood to get the most value out of what we have to work with. I also take a minute and go over the controls and how to operate one of these 200 series Timberjack skidders for the viewers who have never been on one of these. Thanks for watching and dont forget to leave a comment and SUBSCRIBE!
I grew up next to a Timberjack dealership back in the 70's, I can still here them unloading on a Friday night when I close my eyes. Thanks for bringing me back 👍
best desinged skidder ever built , well thought out & ONE STEP INTO THE CAB BRILLANT !
Timberjack wrote the book on log skidders. Awesome!!
Ich habe noch einen 207 aus 1972. Super Maschinen nicht kaputt zu kriegen..
Great video, brings me back a few years with my Pop who had quite a few Timberjack skidders which I later ran for him. We lost him a month ago and I thank you for bringing the memories back to me. Stay safe my friend.
Sorry for you loss, im sure he was a heck of a man! Glad you found our videos to spark old memories. Thanks!
A day without 2 stroke smoke and a screechin' Detroit is a day wasted. I miss it.
@brdman Refering to the saw. The Detroits leak more than they smoke.
It's good to see a good old-fashioned hand crew still cutten for a living and from Maine is even better , I live in Maine and drive truck I haul a lowbed for a living. Keep up the video's love watching them.
Thanks! If the wood markets continue to crash I may have to upgrade my CDL B into an A and start driving myself haha
@@mccormickfamilyfarm5511 what part of the state are you located. I delivered a Brand new Cat 538 deliver yesterday 74 miles up the Golden Rd.
I can’t get over how nice that machine is. I’ve never seen a TJ that nice and strait. Not sure why but they always seem beat to a pulp, maybe cause they’re on the cheaper end to purchase they get in the wrong hands. That machine is crisp!
Such a beautiful sound !
It’s like using a skidder in fs19 but I. Real life, love the video 🇦🇺👍
You can hear those Detroits all the way in the next county!
That hemlock looks pretty good in my yard Scott, the bull calfs are coming soon so we need to get busy but will be back in touch soon, thanks again. Joe
Nice machine I run a 208 jack in Plymouth Maine, best little skidders around
Not to far away! Yes theyre pretty darn good
Love that detroit sound
You can't beat the TJ's bud. I've had them for year's. No issues 😊. Keep logging maine 👍
Yeah logged all my life till I was sixty dual stroke at 60 took my ability to log away love of my life I miss
drove 1 just like this 1 for the first time the other day..!! that's the most fun u could ever have 4wheelin.... rock crawler and then some 📈
Thanks for a great video!
Glad you liked it!
I love your channel and I find it very interesting keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Sweet sound to my ears! Wow you take a big skid out . I love cutting Hemlock . Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
We just had our land logged. The didnt take 1 hemlock that was included in the sale. Lol. Had about 10k bf marked
great little skidder i got one at the shop gotta git er running !
Screamin' jack. Throttle to the floor only way to run em. Hearing protection a must lol. Hope the market picks up. Thanks for the tutorial.
Not a problem!
Those detroits are loud! I'm rebuilding a 360 timberjack now, hopefully get it out this winter. I've got the videos of my rebuild going up as it goes, thought about using a detroit, but came across a 6bt cummins
Sappi shut hardwood down this week pretty much. Hardwood logs are going no problem. Yay for mat logs lol. The way things are going a chipper is sounding better every day lol. Great content bud. Love your videos!! Good luck stay safe!! Fix that door 🙂
Yes mat logs are a great avenue right now! Thanks a lot, and yes the door is this weeks priority
I like the way it sounds real throaty great video
That pure sound 😍
I love the sound of a Detroit keep up the good work
Looks like a solid running Timberjack! I picked up an early 70’s 207D for our woodlot in Mercer. I thought the winch needed some work until I realized how to properly run the hi/neutral(winch)/low
Yes thatd make a great sized machine for a personal woodlot!
nice little jack.
Love the vids man hopefully some more content soon!
Grate job older machines a lot more reliable not so big do less damage in the woods grate job.
I was a skider operator for a few years when I was young. A lot of time on the 225, and the 230, spent most of the time on the 550, they were New then, and THE hot ticket. Make no mistake however the 225 is the machine that put timberjack in front, very nimble and strong, it could really "get the wood out"! Bluffs and hills were normal. The company I worked for logged everything from export to chip timber. Depending on which crew you were assigned to, every one loved the 225,
If you turn to tightly with a big skid any machine can turn on its side! Once at a 90 degree turn I dropped the skid to make the turn, before I started down the bluff, however the winch didn't release. I was turning and jacking the winch, trying to release it. The machine turned over as the winch released! AND free spooled.puking cable like a junk fishing reel the skider rolled slowly at first, but it gained a lot more vigor as it rolled over and over. It stopped rolling at the bottom with it's tires in the air! The battery box lid popped up, and covered me with acid, mostly my pants, my cutter showed up hysterical and insisted I was Dead! I realized I was soaked in acid, and moved swiftly to the stream! (My pants, and most of my shirt didn't make it)! Every one insisted I must be hurt,or in shock. I was fine. They pulled the skider out, and happily told me the cable was wrapped around the machine 7 times! If the machine had broken up, it would have been bad for me. But it didn't!!! The machine was soon back in service. And the damn winch fixed!!!
That’s a hell of a story! Reminds me of the story of when my old man had a red gum tree he was trying to pull away from landing in the river throw him and his 240E skidder through the air and land upside down in the river. Survived it, pulled the skidder out, changed the oil and she ran for another 15 years.
Congratulations on 2k subscribers. 😁
Congratulations on 3k subscribers
Been enjoying your channel, not seeing anything recent?
Hope all is okay with you & family.
Thanks, and take care...
Just subscribed. Cool videos.
I like how you have to rev that Detroit to unlock its potential. I think older Clark Rangers used to use them as well.
haha yes its the perfect machine for someone with a lead foot
Our pulp markets here in Wisconsin. R tough to, its good that winter is coming, so that will help the hardwood pulp/firewood and the softwood aspen pulp/bedding market. Your skidder is a lot different than our old 640 John Deere.
Lets cross our fingers... Yeah the ol 640 is a beast compared to the 225!
Nice Drag! Detroit Engine no dout!!
A 225D is a 208D with bigger heavy duty planetary axles. Nice tractor!
Buxton Maine here
What size exhaust iron that 2.5 inch? thanks! Great vid.
It reminds me of the song, it's kind of a drag by The Buckinghams
Hope you don't have issues with your winch, I just rebuilt one for a customer and let me tell ya what a headache. TimberJack doesn't like giving out any info on their equipment so you have to go to a dealer for all your needs. Keep the winch oil topped off and DON'T over grease it, that will make your clutchpack slip and free spool on ya.
Hey buddy blessings, do these come with more horse power? Really interested in one of these.. all the way from BELIZE CA
Great video! Does your skidder run with asbestos lined brakes?
Schaffer skidder parts out of Illinois has almost anything ull ever need and they get parts to u super quick
Thanks for the info, Ill have to look into it!
Try Nash equipment in Coldbrook, NH they may have that exhaust rain shield, they're pretty good folks I bought a Clark 664D there about 15 years ago.
Rte 26 I believe the road they are on. Just drove by there last week.
@@robertg.9964 yes they are right on 26, you can't miss it,watch for moose around dixfield notch
Good idea, ive seen their skidders for sale on machinerytrader ill have to call and see what they have for parts!
@@mccormickfamilyfarm5511 they had a bone yard full of older timberjacks and John Deere parts machines
Nice looking jack never been a fan of em but that's a straight looking rig what part of Maine u working in I'm from Harmony
Hope you guys are doing well haven’t seen or heard much from you
Good video. Great machine. Is a 230d 76 mod the same.
Timberjack sounds good. 353 Detroit? Looks to be in great shape
Sure is
You got to keep up with the fuel filters. I had one that wouldn't shut down. I discovered the boss/owner had taken the filter out and didn't replace it. Number 2 injector locked up and locked the rack up. I worked on 271s, 671's and 6110's in the Navy.
Sounds good but I think I like the roof mount on my Clark better- quieter. Must be I’m getting old!
No I agree, the roof mount is much easier on the ears!
I would highly recommend but if in a power battery shut off in if you don’t have one already because my dad’s caught got a fire and burned out the center section it was a short in the battery cables
That ain’t nothin but half ah twitch 😁
Need a door ... and some mesh around cage brother ! Trust me been there usually happens when backing up
Working on it!
Are you able to move much hard wood with jay shut down?
Great video. I really need one of those EX pipes on my 230. Cost quite a bit? Someone has put a auto type muffler on mine with some flex pipe and I worry rain with get in thru the flex.
Don’t let rain get in there my friend. Detroit has only exhaust valves in the head so enough rain it can hydro lock. If it sits it will rust and lock. Be well
My treefarmer around like crap with the muffler on it also and it smoked like crazy
Logged with a 1972 225 in the 80s they also had a new 540b JD I preferred the screaming Jimmy that's why I can't hear now though young and dumb didn't wear ear plugs
Yeah the Jimmy doesnt have any forgiveness when the earplugs arent in....
These Timberjacks are still to loud, isn't there such a thing as quiet diesel. I think I still prefer the old JD with steering wheel that lever steering just dont seem right to me, I think JD's are quieter to but more tippy. That was an awesome hemlock pull. Your tutorial on the Timberjack was excellent, I really enjoyed that thanks for sharing, and I'm in ME to so hey neighbor, and if you have cedar let me know.....
sorry for the late reply, but yes i would love to have a deere engine in the Jack for the quietness.... Thanks for the comment!
Stupid question. How do you start it? Starting fluid? What size batteries are needed.
So where is McCormick now?
Its been a long time you didint post a video!!!!
I took a beech branch upside my head. So a door is a good idea. Or take the chains off.
Yeah thats no fun, I have the makings of a door in the process so it wont be long now
When are you going to post another video
Where is this. ..?
do you think you could do a video talking about how you got started logging/ learned the business? i'm in about the same situation you were in, im 24 and ive been working in welding shops since i was 18 and really not happy doing it anymore
Yes please do, I’m in the same boat and not sure where to start
Yeah Id be glad to, thanks for the suggestion
Thanks man! Looking forward to it!
It’s been a while did you just give up on YOU TUBE? Hope your doing well
And I think I might have a rain guard , idk if it’s all beat to shit or not I’ll look
She is a screamer for sure... Put some door guards on it. I had a friend who was hurt pretty bad when a limb came up between the floor plate and cage on a Clark and into his leg.
Salut de France. Inusable ses machine
Where about in Maine your at I,m in sainclair
I love listening to green leakers from afar but can’t stand them when they’re up close.
haha green leakers is new to me
Does anybody know why he stopped posting videos?
Do the Hemlock Trees Have a disease up in Maine I was just wondering because they do in Pennsylvania
Some do, we call them "shaky" but there are a lot that are really good shape. The terrain has a lot to do with it around here as far as the health of them goes.
McCormick Family Farm Ok thats Good Thanks for the reply
Anyone know where I can find information on the emergency brake mod? I have the same skidder, pre lawsuit and want to put on an emergency brake but kinda haven't a clue how to go about it.
If you want to do away with the drum and go disk a Chevy lumina rotor and an 08 Dakota caliper make your own mount. I have heard a 97 f150 rotor fits but I haven’t tried it. Good luck.
When are we going to see some more logging videos?
Im finally getting some time to get a couple up, i know its been a while but life gets in the way!
When you say "pulp", what does that mean not being in that industry? Thanks
Pulp means it gets turned into paper
Big Hoss sevices nailed it on the head! Thanks for asking questions though!
Injector cleaner at idol!
How in the world can you handle the noise all day?
Earmuffs on his helmet
That 3M helmet has some of the best muffs you can get, not silent by any means but tolerable haha
Hey when you guys post a new video
What engine is in that???
2 stroke Detroit 353
What is pulp?
What happened to the videos?
Screaming Detroit if it ain’t leaking oil it doesn’t have any it 😂😂 my dad had a 79 230 and replaced it with a Cummings a lot more power and runs a lot more quieter lost the motor in the Detroit several times and gave up
If you want an original style rain guard message me. I have to build on for my 240 I am restoring and I will make 2. Your a fellow Maine guy so I can get it to you for cheap :)
When’s a new video
That’s one of the crispest Jacks I’ve ever seen. For some reason it’s hard to find those in good original condition..
She is a keeper! Yeah unfortunately a lot of these machines get in the wrong hands and they get run right into the ground...
@@mccormickfamilyfarm5511 the people who have the nice one's don't want to give them up very often. Mine came from Manitoba Canada. It was used as a recovery vehicle in the winter to pull stuck trucks. Never pulled a hitch of wood. It's a 1991 240A with 4,000 original hrs. It's like brand new. It's got the cummins motor and I just Love it.
Those 225 supers are very tough to come by. I Love the Detroit motor as well. This one you will never get rid of friend. You just grow to Love it more and more. What an awesome channel you have started! 👍
I'll keep my eyes out for the doors and rain shield. Jk equipment in maine has a bunch of old jack parts. Harold's logging In hampden I get all my parts from. He may have what you need as well. Plus nash equipment. there kind of pricey though.
Yes you do need doors I so what can happen without doors it's not good
Doors are in the making this coming week!
Doors are in the making this coming week!
That's good
My dad had 44 years on one and he still talk about it and he's 82 years old now.
Exhaust will hurt 🤕
Are you all done with RUclips?
How old r you
did you give up on youtube or what?
Sorry to painfull to listen to you thrashing that poor old engine.
