I remember a comment months back that it sounded possible that Amazon Prime was going to carry all the NHL games after Bally and I was pretty on board with that idea. Everything in one place for one or two packages and the potential end of blackout restrictions, but no, we need to continue to have everything fragmented. I still don't understand how Northeast Indiana is in the St. Louis market despite that I'm 5 and 1/2 hours from St Louis but only two from Detroit and Columbus and three from Chicago. Makes no sense that I can't get ESPN+ and watch every team.
Nobody else has the money I guess to bail out the regional sports networks. If it's blackouts or sports books owning networks, I would honestly prefer blackouts. Advertising gambling through the whole game just cheapens the sport.
I'm happy to see anybody take over balley sports. Actually really like the talent they have calling the games but the video quality can be horrendous at times and the company has virtually no customer support
It's funny. In the comment sections, everyone complains about the gambling ads. And yet, at work all anyone wants to talk about is how much they made or lost on their parlays from the night before. The overkill on ads is clearly working for these companies.
TO be fair, Bally (once known mainly for pinball and arcade games) was more recently focused on Casinos and attempting to integrate sports betting in broadcasts, so Gambler for gambler, wash of a decision in my eyes.
I could see Dylan Cozens find his game in Calgary as a 3C since that's where his game has been for almost 2 years now. I think he needs a market where the pressure to win/make playoffs is not as dramatic. We'd have to hold on to a good chunk of that cap hit though.

Now THOSE NAMING RIGHTS has been sold to FanDuel. I suspect this deal today came about either because the previous naming rights deal expired or else Bally's used an exit clause to get out because they did not want to be associated anymore with a bankrupt company that people hate.
As someone who avoids advertisements like the plague, I don't even watch anything with adds anymore... that includes sports. Only highlights and in person for me now.
I mute commercials and pick up my magazines and read an article between the action. Most ads are virtue signaling ads, that never feature people who look like me in them anyway, so I just assume they don't want my money for those products to begin with.

I don't see gambling ads in sports lasting forever. Much like tobacco ads in sports from a few decades ago, I think more and more governments around the world are going to create regulations and laws limiting or prohibiting gambling ads in Sports. In the UK for instance, Gambling ads are not allowed to be shown before a certain time in the evening, when most kids have gone to bed. I feel eventually, Canada will ban these ads like they did with Tobacco.
When the inevitable huge sports betting scandal breaks (and it's not an "if", it's a "when") then this is all gonna come crashing down. A similar gambling culture grew up around baseball in the 1900's & 10's and ended up in the 1919 Black Sox scandal. The only question is which sport is it gonna be where some very big names get caught up in a scandal so big they won't be able to cover it up. I give it ten years at most before something big breaks.

I've noticed I'm watching about 40-50% less games now than I was pre-pandemic. Not sure the reason, but the gambling content pushed into my face puts me off. I also believe there are more players getting involved with gambling companies/betting behind the scenes than we know, thus making the integrity of the sport questionable.

Nashville signings combined aging elite SC winners with quality veterans and several young Preds players..seems like a mix that can work. But reality is it takes realization this is not an instant cake mix ..it is individuals who need to start from scratch..because you have experience that honed its resume and legacy before reaching Nashville. That's not it. There are people who are addicted to gambling and it's being shoved on their faces before, during and after every game. Imagine if they did that with beer, cigarettes or marijuana.
Gambling is addictive. 99% of people probably do have the self control, but it still doesn't lessen the damage done by the other 1%.
@@TheHockeyGuy As long as nothing misleading is being stated, I don't think there's an issue with advertising for beer, cigarettes or marijuana either. It comes back to personal responsibility.
