I’m a bit worried about the Bruins. You have to score goals to win games, and they can’t seem to figure it out. The chemistry isn’t the same as it was last year, which may also be the issue. It may take a little longer, but I’m somewhat hopeful that the forwards start to gel together a little better. Pasta and Poitras will lead the way as they settle into the new lineup
Last week the Jackets could have been in the 'I can do it' category, but the buzzsaw of Winnipeg and DC plus getting goalied in San Jose who had extra jump from getting Celebrinni back gives concern besides Boone Jenner being out with injury. Good news is the Jackets have plenty of cap space to utilize for an additional forward and/or picks to facilitate trades

Detroit kept talking about being better defensively, they're a top 10 team right now in terms of goals allowed even with -6 differential, and a bunch of those goals allowed have been weird bounces off their own guys. But they're also a bottom 5 team offensively which is what the concern was going into the season from fans. I think maybe they just need to take more chances offensively, maybe they can get those 5-4 wins
Detroit's getting nowhere until Lalonde is gone. I'm sick of the line juggling and dump and chase strategy. Line juggling tells me he's throwing random combinations to see what sticks except he doesn't even stick with one. Make Larkin, Kane, and Raymond the first line and Tarasenko, Debrincat, and Compher the second. It won't guarantee to work immediately so give it at least a couple games to develop.
Montreal has issues. If they had started last season like this it wouldn't have bothered me, but I don't see the positives for the overall team that I saw at the end of last season. I do see some positive development for a few individuals but as a team they can't perform well for a full 90.
As a Jets fan, I'm in full panic mode. We have one loss and are only 12 and 1 😂 I'm just enjoying the ride for as long as it lasts. Dont get to watch many teams have a start like they have had.
Here's a thought: could this work with individual players? Just like two or three from each team. For example: Martin Necas would absolutely be in that "I Can Donut" category in which nobody predicted he'd be as phenomenal as he is right now.
Two areas where the Oilers should be in a panic mode is their Goaltending and their PK. Both at the bottom of the League. It’s amazing that they have 6 wins with that Goalie tandem.
Interesting take for Montreal. I was fully expecting you to put them in draft lottery, no questions asked. However to your point about the fans, yeah they are absolutely not loving that whole situation. I would even argue the fans are rougher than the media as of now, which is saying something. Personally though, if it were a thing, I would have them on a line between concerned (not panicked) and draft lottery. There's definitely concerns about the fact that there seems to be regression this year. I think it'll sort itself out, they just need to pick up the pace and show true effort in the smaller details, and the wins will come their way, but as of now, that effort is nowhere near an acceptable level.
If you count ties/OTL as losses, the Habs have only had 2 seasons with a 60%+ win percentage in the past 30 years. This team has been mediocre at best for a generation, only winning games because of Roy and Price.
Judging Columbus in a panic index is insensitive. Panic is something the team and the fans were never going to contemplate this season. We're just hoping to experience healing and recovery. Despite what team management and coaches say for public consumption, playoff hopes were close to zero to begin with and then you lose your best forward to a team morale crushing tragedy.
I do feel as though we should look at the RW column more often to see who’s really strong and closing out games in regulation. If we look at the leaf last year for instance we can see that they were not the kind of team to close out games five on five. Many of their games were won in 3 on 3 OT/SO. Thus it’s not surprising when these teams don’t turn REG season success into playoff success.
19:25 - Yes. 2 years ago wasn't toooo bad to watch because Karlsson was on such a tear, he really was impressive (and it was nice knowing his value was rising), but aside from that it's been truly miserable since 2019.
You lost me when you put Toronto up top and Vancouver in the worry. Vancouver is doing this without some of their top players not in the lineup. Don't agree..... Great site though, keep up the good work.
Habs fan here, agree with the panic for montreal. This was supposed to be the year that montreal took a step, and so far they are not taking a step. Most concerning for me is that Caufield is scoring, defense is getting better, but they're still losing games that they should be winning. Something needs to change, but it's hard to say what. Therefore: panic.
Didn't Anaheim start their rebuild the same year as the LA Kings? I didn't expect them to be competing for a playoff spot but they don't seem to be making much progress.
LA Kings are really fun to watch. A lot of guys coming up from the AHL getting their first full season start. I got high hopes unless Blake decides to trade them all away.
imo, I was expecting the Jets to be good. they had moments of domination last year. The thing is, we're kind of at a similar point as Toronto : good/ great in the season but can Hellebuyck step it up in the playoffs?
Different factors for Helle... he plays 60/82 games pretty much every year. He decides how often he plays (although that may have changed this year as Comrie has had quite a few starts already with the new coaches). I think he's just done when it comes to playoffs. Plus, when there's slacking off of the guys in front of him (like in the game vs Toronto) then sh*t happens. So I'm saying if he gets 50 starts, does the 4 nations playoffs he'll be not as exhausted at end of regular season this year.
The panic in colorado is real. The injuries keep coming, the questions in other areas remain, and they keep stacking losses against teams they should beat even when injured. There is a real possibility that they just dont get healthy enough this year to be competitive if things dont turn around
If you were reading any of the Sabres media and comments on various sites, its full fledged panic and resignation for 14 years already. Mostly because they finally added to the team and are trying to win now, but got off to their worst start since 2017.
2:00 ... You need a separate category for Toronto, because they are never truly happen no matter how well they are doing, because they all know what has happened the past several years in the playoffs.
As a Preds fan (and Bruins fan, who are also struggling), the Predators desperately need a first or second line young center. They look slow and have no one to get guys like Stamkos the puck. While an imperfect fit, perhaps the Preds can package a prospect or two along with a couple of their excess draft picks for a guy like Zegras
I can honestly say as a Devil's fan I'm concerned on some aspects namely them relying heavily on Nico, however I absolutely love the fight we have this year.
tampa has los 3 in a row but it was all a long western road trip and two of the losses are against hot af minnesota and winnipeg. I think your placement is good - but if they lose to philadelphia tonight they definitely shift to panic mode.
Dont stress over your power rankings. They are the benchmark on youtube. Unless you drop the Jets 😂 Just joking. In the 2 years i have been paying attention to your rankings, i have always been satisfied that you get it right, week to week. If the system you use is the reason you stress, just keep it up😊

Halfway through the video I was wondering why you had Washington and Minnesota in woo-hoo, and you changed it like 5 seconds after I thought that.
Montreal has issues. If they had started last season like this it wouldn't have bothered me, but I don't see the positives for the overall team that I saw at the end of last season. I do see some positive development for a few individuals but as a team they can't perform well for a full 90.
What's with the bird on the shoulder? Other then why the hell not?
Nashville are in deep doo-doo..... Boston may be fighting for a wild card spot at best...
Not surprised with the Islanders
As a Jets fan, I'm in full panic mode. We have one loss and are only 12 and 1 😂
I'm just enjoying the ride for as long as it lasts. Dont get to watch many teams have a start like they have had.
Solid run through
Here's a thought: could this work with individual players?
I like how you have The Panic Index. If you did it the other way, it'd be too much like your Power Rankings. Let me know what you think
Humbly disagree. There are plenty of Columbus fans here in the comments panicking about the season.
I saw the bird and immediately sang…
NOTHING CAN STOP US NOW. I’ll tell you how I’m gonna make it happun
As a Kings fan, it has been the last 4 games has been a pretty nice ride
Looking for some younger players for my Fantasy team. Possible show idea??
You lost me when you put Toronto up top and Vancouver in the worry. Vancouver is doing this without some of their top players not in the lineup. Don't agree.....
Great site though, keep up the good work.
Habs fan here, agree with the panic for montreal. This was supposed to be the year that montreal took a step, and so far they are not taking a step. Most concerning for me is that Caufield is scoring, defense is getting better, but they're still losing games that they should be winning. Something needs to change, but it's hard to say what. Therefore: panic.
Hi Shannon like that jersey plus the little Birdy
Didn't Anaheim start their rebuild the same year as the LA Kings? I didn't expect them to be competing for a playoff spot but they don't seem to be making much progress.
LA Kings are really fun to watch. A lot of guys coming up from the AHL getting their first full season start. I got high hopes unless Blake decides to trade them all away.
NJ is fine ... give them some time to gel. Plenty of new faces & injuries
YAY a power ranking on my birthday :D
My daughter would like to know who the bird is and whats his name?
Based on other comments, it's the Orange Bird shoulder plushie.
I think THG picks out the magnets he wants to use and then works his video idea around the magnets.
Good Vibes on the Team or not. The Amount of Goals Ottawa Allows in the first minute of a Period is unacceptable.
Panic is chaos so this board exemplifies the index well lol
imo, I was expecting the Jets to be good. they had moments of domination last year.
What about Utah?
The Caps flex this year is legit.
Im gonna say it: Love the NHL when a lot of teams are in panic. Last year everyone and their three mothers were rebuilding. It was so boring.
Shannon really doesn't like stl. Its actually crazy man.
How is this nice 🐦 on your shoulder
I can honestly say as a Devil's fan I'm concerned on some aspects namely them relying heavily on Nico, however I absolutely love the fight we have this year.
Fitting the last place Flyers go last on the index. My only panic is that they're going to waste Konecny like they did Giroux.
tampa has los 3 in a row but it was all a long western road trip and two of the losses are against hot af minnesota and winnipeg. I think your placement is good - but if they lose to philadelphia tonight they definitely shift to panic mode.
Did one of your rabbits finally evolve into its ultimate form?
Dont stress over your power rankings. They are the benchmark on youtube. Unless you drop the Jets 😂 Just joking. In the 2 years i have been paying attention to your rankings, i have always been satisfied that you get it right, week to week. If the system you use is the reason you stress, just keep it up😊
