Great documentary. The students could not be more disinterested in most of the scenes. The film showed the US public school system as the abject failure it was and is, and yet it was a million times better back then. Sad. But great film.
I had an English teacher like this. He would bring in all kinds of pop culture things, that had a connection with what we were learning. Once came in and blasted The Immigrant Song, by Led Zeppelin, when we were learning about Beowulf.
@@strangebrew1231 Yes, I'd say she is about 23 or 24 here-- still idealistic after finishing college, not yet beaten down by the system. To see what she'd be like 10-15 years later, see in the same film another teacher reading to her class "Casey at the Bat"
She is alive and well and yes, 81. She taught for many more years in a brilliant career, but made her fame as a photographer under the name Bernis von zur Muehlen (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernis_von_zur_Muehlen)@@noochinator2
From a boring technical point of view a lot of those student reactions were probably taken from different points during the class. They only had one camera, so it's not possible to get that many reactions just during the song. Either way Wiseman only would have used appropriate reaction shots.
the teacher reminds me of my junior high eng. teacher who loved s & g. She sang I am a rock at benefit review called 'the faculty fun-in'. it was faintly tongue-in-cheek, she wore white go-go boots.

Absolutely. I think it’s more awkwardness than indifference. Some of them don’t know how to react to a song that pretty in such a mundane and miserable environment.
Rohun Saigal - Imagine being such an Incel who needs to be “right” about something so petty yet morbid, that you utter the phrase “only 50k” in regard to human deaths. Disgusting.
@@shannonshnekat1560 What the fuck are you talking about, "only" 50K out of 200 million total Americans died so statistically a random high school probably wouldn't have any Vietnam deaths you idiot. I don't think you know what an Incel is.
Rohun Saigal - Aside from the fact that your comment is wrong and therefore a total waste of time, the OP was making a profound observation on the time period and those 50k often very young men whose lives were cut short for an unnecessary war. I know what an incel is, and someone who wants to make some asinine and invalid attempt at a “Well, actually...” on a poignant comment like that, has the mindset of a FUCKING INCEL.

I looked up some of the people from this film in a yearbbook I found online.

Class I would've enjoyed
Crazy that this teacher, if still alive, is likely in her 80's. Time passes by so fast.
Guessing that she is in her mid 20s or early 30s in 1968
I'm crazy about this teacher, who is she? I would have been so in love with her if I'd been in this class....

Oh yes she is. And now a well known photographer: Bernis von zur Muehlen

I have never seen people so disinterested in Simon and Garfunkel before.
Simon and Garfunkel were seen as pretentious in 1968
Their music is pretty much garbage is why
Bunch of nobodies who had no appreciation for great songwriting / poetry .
Their Bridge Over Troubled Water album was a Grammy winning masterpiece

School makes anything boring
3:35 ROCK WITH SHAKESPEARE🤘
This is my school it looks exactly the same 😂😂
Northeast.
I saw this whole film on RUclips not too long ago, and now it seems it's gone. Does anyone know where someone could find it again?
@@hexi1756 No, I wasn't able to find the whole movie again. Guess it must've been taken down for copyright reasons.
His films are now streaming on Kanopy
If you get Kanopy, which is free with any library card, you’ll find Frederick Wiseman’s entire filmography.
can somebody rip it?I don't go to university and library cards aren't a thing in my country
Jack Wheeler sadly our public library uses Hoopla and Libby for digital media and not Kanopy
Remember watching this o Channel 4 in 1987

where can i watch the full movie?
What a wonderful teacher. I remember comparable scenes, when we had to deal with the lyrics of "Wind-Up" by Jethro Tull.
Wonder how many of those kids died in Vietnam
Only 50K Americans in total died. Statistically probably none

This one is still up there. Just checked
