I’m a OG DFL. I moved to Whitstable 15yrs ago from London/Kent borders and I absolutely love living here. It’s a beautiful place to live, the locals have been nothing but very friendly to me, the surrounding area of Kent and East Sussex is stunning to explore… I can see why floods of londoners are escaping the smoke to Kent/Sussex… but that’s exactly what I wanted to escape back then…
That’s great, I’m currently on the London border and definitely plan on moving to the coast at some point for the exact same reason! Whitstable definitely my favourite place I’ve visited this year
Just past the Neptune is a house on the beach that Peter Cushing lived in … when I first lived in Whitstable in the 80s I used to meet Peter Cushing most mornings on his walk and I was out pushing my eldest son in his pram after breakfast. He would always stop for a little chat. Lovely down to earth man.
I’m from Yorkshire and every summer I used to stay with my late sister in Canterbury. Whitstable was my favourite place to spend the day. Bag of chips overlooking the sea. Sometimes ate at Peter Cushing Wetherspoons. Whitstable six miles from Canterbury and 20 minutes on the bus for my sister. She used to go every week. Happy memories.
Great video. Outside at the Old Neptune is my favourite place in the world! Shame you missed the famous Whitstable sunset. There is also a series of local stencil art from Catman - Whitstable’s own Bansky - who has recently got his art of Shepherd Neame pint glasses. I saw you pass one without comment in the video. Just one thing - please don’t call Whitstable a fishing “village” though - this always really grates. It has a population of over 30k…
Another great, informative vlog Jack, but did you know that Whitstable has also been home to the mother in-law of none other than ''Suggs''... Lead singer & front man of the band ''Madness''?
I love Whitstable. I actually didn't know about the castle so will have to check it out on my next visit! Also 11:30 is definitely not too early for a pint. There is a great little pub / bar somewhere on the high street called The Black Dog, loads of cool old quirky things on the walls and they have an excellent selection of fruity or non-standard ciders. More of an evening vibe though.
Another DFL from Croydon here. But - we moved into a pre-existing house 24 years ago. As much for the superior quality education for our son (as Kent education was then) and the pleasant , semi-rural way of life...We still love the place, but it's changing.
I loved swimming in Whitstable sea...then I looked at google maps satellite view and saw its right next to a sewage works then just off to the north east of the beach is the sewage out let marked on google maps! ....
The “floating random pier” 😂 is the remaining part. There used to be an extension off the end of the current concrete structure. However, due to natural costal erosion, Hampton didn’t flourish as a sea-side town like, Herne Bay or Whitstable. I live in Herne Bay and I am very interested in the local history. There is a lot of history if you look in the right places.
a lot of the pier was accidently burned down in 1970. then the storm of '78 came and removed the remaining middle section. hence why there is only the end of the pier that remaims today@@jackryanmiller
You forgot to mention the car park you show, that it is £3.70/hour. Thats an expensive day in Whitestable ! However, it is a beautiful place, I was in the Neptune pub today. Next to the theatre, you missed the 'Peter Cushin' pub, converted from an old cinema, great deco, named after the famous actor who was a resident of Whitstable.
Oh yes a shame about the price of parking. I’ve heard from a few people now about the Peter Cushing pub and the exhibition too, I’m a fan so would’ve enjoyed 😄
The big car park is called the Gorrell Tank because that is exactly what it is. Beneath all the cars, under the concrete, is a massive tank full of water. It used to be an open reservoir into which, as a kid, I threw stones. Was born, raised and worked in the town before moving away to a retire. Simply got too busy with people and the town, in my opinion, is a victim of its own success.
@@jackryanmiller The reservoir and now a tank takes surface water from the town and then pumps it out under the road and into the harbour. The pumping station building sits on a corner of the car park. On the inland side of the car car park off Westgate Terrace is a road called Reservoir Road.
We parked near the lifeboats £3.90 an hr so only paid for 1, should have stayed longer didnt see half of that you shared.... it was a Monday though, not good usually in fishy places
Watched the video......nothing shocking about it! You may have been pleasantly surprised about what you found in Whitstable but shocked................? The word "shocked" is never spoke in the video. Some may misinterpret your hyperbole as just clickbait! Less "shocked" more "factual informative content " would be welcome! Other than that, keep it up! I will be shocked otherwise!

Great video of the place I love most!!! I only moved here a year ago and I have never been happier!!! Simply the Best!!😎
Cheers John I am envious of you moving there !
We visited Whitstable for the first time this week. We absolutely loved it! Thanks so much for the parking at Tankerton recommendation😊
Wow you chose some great weather to go, and I’m glad the recommendation helped 😄

Thanks so much, really appreciate it. That’s really interesting about Catman, I’ll have to investigate that further 😄
So keen to check it out. It’s the first on my list to see since moving to London almost two years ago!
You’ll love it! But just make sure to go when the weather is a bit nicer again 🤪
Another great, informative vlog Jack, but did you know that Whitstable has also been home to the mother in-law of none other than ''Suggs''... Lead singer & front man of the band ''Madness''?
Aha I didn’t actually know that, thanks very much. I was told that Peter Cushing lived there but that was the extent of it 🤣
This was lovely to watch! One of our kids lives here ❤
You didn’t mention our favourite cafe : Windy Corner Stores
( Definitely worth visiting)
Thanks very much Claire, I’m going back in a few weeks so I’ll check that out, hope it does some goooood coffee 😎
I like this place. I visited the harbour
It’s a great place I’m thinking of going back to the harbour next week
You missed The Downs.Largest common green in the UK
That looks great, I’ll be sure to check it out next time
One of my favourite parts of the South. I lived there for a year during my Uni days.

Catch of the day though 😏
You missed ' squeeze gut alley' and the last oyster boat that is preserved - when my sister and + I visited ,we picked up a local guide leaflet.
