What I find interesting is that Donna Summer released her version two months prior to this, but Buddy insisted on covering the Richard Harris version. I guess his backup singers (who made Linda McCartney sound in-tune) couldn't have handled disco.
Buddy had been playing his version for years before this video was recorded. The backup singers were Buddy's wife and her friend; they were just there for the fun of it.
From the MacArthur Park Wiki page: "After his relationship breakup, Webb stayed for a while at the residence of Buddy Greco, upon whose piano the piece was composed and originally dedicated. Greco closed all his shows with this number for forty years."
Very excellent piano work because this song has always stood out. Very wonderful indeed for a beautiful song.
This man was A VERY talented singer and piano player.
he had the respect of all the great talents of his day.
I heard Buddy playing this and singing too, without the backing singers. 1973 Absolutely fantastic he was.
Absolutely awesome.
And proud of it!
If you don't like it, don't listen.
Went by So fast- Buddy was a genius on the piano.
