I've used that technique with many orchids. They do not like to be wobbly in their fir bark growing medium. And getting them chunks to arrange nicely is a challenge. Chopsticks to the rescue
Thanks Adam, I had no idea there was such a thing as anti transpirant. I've had success with putting my cuttings in a small pot, then inside a clear plastic bag. It's like a small greenhouse. That really helps keep the moisture in. But, it is kind of a pain to water them. Keep the videos coming! You're doing great!
I water from the bottom with my cutting with bags over the pots/cutting. I set them in a dish of water for 10,20 or 30min every couple of days depending on the temperature/weather and the amount of wholes in the bag. And remove the bag every 1 or 2 weeks to check on them.
Hey man, keep going, love the enthusiasm and it's infectious. Wish i had not done what i did for blah, blah, blah you know the story. Grow a hinoki in your yard. You will not be disappointed in the way it naturally grows.
I loved this video today Adam!! I really loved hearing your excitement over finding all those magnificent roots! But please do keep us updated on the trees you are just growing out! I would appreciate seeing their progress too. And along those lines, can you do a tour of your bonsai bench and all your trees please?? I don't think I have any cypress growing in my yard. There are some trees that were here before we moved in 25 years ago, but I ripped all the front yard plants out and planted new stuff in about 15-20 years ago. BUT!!! I think my next door neighbor MUST have one!! I keep bothering this poor man for cuttings of his trees, LOL. He has a dwarf Japanese maple I have been trying to get to root for me for about a year now. No luck there, but now I will have to catch him to ask for cuttings from his cypress. LOL Thank you for another great video!!
Hello Adam, I've been watching your videos for a while and I'm really impressed by your expertise. Your videos are really strong. With some other YouToubers you see some things differently, so I say the roots are there in no time. You say it but it can take time, you have to be patient, I think that's very good for a beginner to know. VG Oldie👍
Adam, I enjoy your videos and I have also enjoyed watching you grow in your bonsai journey. You are an amazing young man. I have no doubt that we will be seeing your work for many years to come. Best regards, Tim
Another fantastic video, thanks so much for sharing!! Watering the compost because planting the cuttings makes so much sense! Thanks again, amazing work 🔥
Hi there, Thanks for your really informative videos. Just wondering if you could possibly do one on how to and what types of fertilizers please. I've seen your little fertilizer baskets, so how are these used.
I got my 1st Hinoki for my courtyard. Sadly, it looks very confusing, as it has 4 tops. I only need one but, I am afraid to cut on it. They are very expensive and very hard to find for sale. I love your show and very pleased that you are covering one of my favorite conifers.
Really nice trees. I bought a sawara cypress a few months back from a garden center, not sure if theyre the best bonsai material i just liked the blue tint the foliage has. I toke a few cuttings and had zero success.
Another great video. Do you have a Pseudolaryx? Or a golden larch I have one and it’s not doing the best, I keep it in the shade and it doesn’t really grow and if I put it in a more exposed area it burns. I’ve searched all over for care guides but I’ve found nothing
Hey thanks! Pond baskets offer better drainage and aeration from all the holes in it. The enhanced air circulation encourages the roots to grow more fibrous and dense.
Hi Adam! You are very inspiring!👍 Could you possibly add subbtitles to multiple languages for you older video ass well? If possible, ask your friend Attila to fo the same.😉 Thanks in advence for your answare! Hello, from Hungary!🤝
Love your enthusiasm!
I've never seen anyone support a tree with chopsticks through the side of the container. Great idea!!

So much information is absolutely fantastic and helpful. I love your presentations. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Yeah I’ve also found that plastic bags over cuttings really helps

Hey thank you! I have found they air layer very well so that could be an approach for your tree if you do not want to waste what you cut off 😊
@@notionbonsai Have you successfully airlayered a hinoki? How long did it take to root? Im interested in your method :)
Nice i like it ❤❤
Thanks, I think my soil is too airy rather than moist. I'll try a damper substrate next year! Interested to see how they look next spring
I hope they root well for you next year 😄
Same here! I thought hinoki's are just fussy about rooting when I put the cuttings in inorganic stuff. I'll be changing that next year too.
Beautifully done. Would this also work on other cypress species?
Really nice trees. I bought a sawara cypress a few months back from a garden center, not sure if theyre the best bonsai material i just liked the blue tint the foliage has. I toke a few cuttings and had zero success.
Where do you get your supplies in the uk? Love then videos I’ve learnt so much.
Another great video.

Another great video, can you tell me why you use pond baskets instead of bonsai training pot?
Hey thanks! Pond baskets offer better drainage and aeration from all the holes in it. The enhanced air circulation encourages the roots to grow more fibrous and dense.
Thank you I shall give it a go
🔥🔥🔥
What is the best method . Heal or Noodle cutting ?
What rooting hormone and cut paste brands do you use?
Is this type of cypress considered the same as thuja?
